My issue with our D is one thing.  3rd down.   That is the thing that I think will impact the most from that side of the ball.

My issue first is LB. Same issue I’ve had the whole season. Heck before the season. Next issue is pass D. It hasn’t been good. If you combine those issues and then have a team that can run on our D we have serious problems. What we saw yesterday.

Goedert is a big irreplaceable piece to our team. He blocks very well. So you can’t just play him for the pass. He does several great things in the passing game. Big YAC talent. He was the main pass option in the Run Pass Option(RPO). Just multiple ways he conflicts any D between run and pass playcalling reads. Wouldn’t underestimate his value.

Not sure that’s good at all. Could easily see our D being ranked possibly even as low as next to last after this next game. Down to 24th right now. Its not pretty!

I don't care what they're ranked

What a lucky break for us that Steichen practically threw us this bone

How many points they are giving up seems fairly important to me…but ok.

The positive number coming out of this chart is our D has the lowest percentage of giving up FGs. Well guess it’s not that positive to give up TDs instead of field goals really.

But it’s just another one of those rankings charts. 31st ranking. For those that care about that sort of thing.

We’ve been better than Gannon at least

8percent turnover…which is good. Like right in the middle of the pack.

We rank 27th in pressure rate allowed. Just another one of those rankings things…O stat obviously

I'll give you my opinion.

Early in the year I thought it was a lot of Hurts not seeing open WRs.   Some of his throws weren't great either.

I've come to see that I think he is really accurate on the throws that he can make.  Like a good free throw shooter in basketball.  But there are limitations with his arm strength.

Seeing the field, I think part of the issue is the route tree.   On the plays where he has 5 minutes to throw the ball, I see a lot of lazy routes...reminds me of when Wentz was in same position.   Except this time we know it's not a talent issue at WR.

When I'm seeing success... it's when Hurts has 2 or 3 options that he takes a quick read and reacts to what the D does.

I think he is limited in that regard, but that Steichen or whoever ran the offense last year did a masterful job in putting the defense in a " make a quick decision position " and gave Hurts the easy read.  Hurts thrives with that,  keeping the offense on time.

The play last week, fake screen to Julio and Hurts sees everything right in front of him, with an easy read... Hurts excels at that.  Easy read and then just an accurate quick throw.... it's beautiful to see.

When the offense gets off timing...and you see the lazy routes.   It doesn't work.    Let's be honest the TD pass to Zacheaus last week...the defender made a brutal play on the ball.

That's why my favorite play of Hurts career so far is that dime he dropped to Zach in the Tampa game after waiting and stepping up in the pocket.

I'd like to see Hurts make throws stepping up in the pocket.  That's a great way to slow down the edge rush and also is an easier throw because you move up closer to the target.

Yesterday he panicked and tucked the ball and ran too early a couple of times.

It's not " he has to run the ball" for me...it's the decision of when to run and when to just buy time to throw.

But the play calling needs to be better too.  I think they need to run it more in certain situations... and I think they need to put in more of those quick reads... really when they run and build the pass plays off of the runs, it's when Hurts is best.  Because he is limited on things he can do off script with his arm.

Well put. But why did he stop with the quick decisions? IMO that's the sign of an NFL caliber QB. If the WR's are lazy they need smacked upside da haid. Smith seems to have the ability to get "re-open" when Hurts has to scramble(I called it "clutch because it is") At times I wonder if rook WR's aren't better because they are hungry. It seems to me AJ Brown got open alot more last year?. I know some don't like stats, but they matter at contract time. I along with others that include you and 58 are not happy with the called runs. it's a play we run so often defenses are now ready for them. It's not a "surprise" play anymore because it's over used. We need some fresh plays. it reminds me a bit of the Kelly era where we had 8 plays in the play book. The slant routes were killing them yesterday and we always STOP what's working. Makes zero sense to me. I'm having a seriously tough time defining this offense, mainly because we don't have one. We get lucky and hit some big plays on occaision, but this doesn't look like a 10-2 team to me. It looks more like my homer Panthers who have no players. These guys are supposed to be pros, who can get open, give Hurts a window, and Hurts needs to make that quick decision and deliver the ball. Swift should be juking defenses and running amok. Our running game is looking once again like my Panthers. Why can't we open running lanes? And Hurts as you said regressed on decision making and he's not a rushing threat now like last year. The offense really didn't change alot from last year, but the performance level dropped into the abyss. We have pass catching RB's we don't use. We have Penny the basher who we don't use. AJ and Smith can pull defenses, but we never throw to them. It was nice to see AJ even lined up as a TE,why not do more of that? JJ was a killer from the slot. We gotta show more looks, not the same 5 textbook pass plays. The come from behind wins are exciting, but IMO there is no reason on the planet for us to be behind. We have too much talent being wasted

Peyton Manning didn't need carried by anyone LOL. The Manning/Harrison connection is still the benchmark today

This is pretty much what happened to our run game

So let me ask.... the way we play our safeties 25 yards deep, do you think it's a lot to ask our LB to cover all that ground...especially being the 12 yard cushion our CBs give?

We give up too many long 3rd downs... it's the soft scheme.

Lane’s guy helps finish up the play. Cam goes out to block nobody. Kelce gets jacked up. I’m not even putting this on Gainwell.

Show the play where Ellis stopped CMC behind the line...then keep rolling the film after the next false start...the nice 12 yard cushion we gave Aiyuk.

You love the flash play... the #s that reflect our defense is 3rd down. That's not LBs ....that's the extremely soft scheme.

Thought the play you are referring to with Aiyuk was second down.

But you quoted my post about our O. Then talked about our D.

Great play by Elliss there. I was pumped. But they targeted him the whole rest of the game. Well not just him. Morrow also. Ricks….
