AJ going to get this no matter where he plays.Time to put the big boy pants on. Of course fans are happy when plays work. That's what you plan all year for and it's the same in every city. The problems arise when those don't happen often enough. I don't think Hurts pass % is enough to warrant wasted plays of "forcing the ball". Either AJ is only getting open a few plays a game,or Hurts isn't delivering the goods. It has to be one or the other. I said early on Hurts wasn't the same QB. Last year he was showing improvement on the points we all wanted him to do,this year is just.......well IDK how to say it. DOA,no rhythm, lacking chemistry we had last year,SLOPPY play with picks, drops, under throws, taking unneeded sacks and whatever else. I just don't see the same growing QB who was trying to get better. He got his money,so the growth stopped and on many points he has regressed

Dickerson out with thumb surgery

Hoping this rude awakening will get our team completely focused now. We never had the best team in the league this season. No more pretending on that front. So nothing else to do but grind hungry together to get things fixed.

Just a thought: THIS Eagles’ team has won a lot of games this year; MOST of the wins were…”didn’t look that good; didn’t impress; didn’t win like they should have….MAYBE this IS who they are….just not as good as they were last year. My biggest disappointment or complaint is either the playcalling OR the decision(s) by the QB. I am not in that room to know who is to blame the most, but it is probably a bit of both. I beg this team to LEARN AND DO more creativity on offense. You are an NFL offense. LOOK LIKE IT ALREADY!

joemas was right by his Madden 4 play diagram. Maybe exaggerated, but not too far off. It is bad. Go rewatch the game. Watch the plays out of each formation. You will be shocked.

Been saying that about the playcalling all season.

The whole O personnel package just never been put all together this season.

Part of the problem is the rushing attack. Not what I’ve really heard anybody mentioning as an issue. This teams identity last season was physical and pound you in the mouth. Lost that identity this season.

Boy have they ever. Why won’t they run the ball more? I don’t get it. We saw more consistency in the first half and then poof…back to the same old…not sure what the heck play we should call…so let’s throw the WR screen again out of the same formation we always do and that the defense knows what the play it is going to be…..yeah, THATS a good idea. NOT!

So... if this is who they are...then Monday should have been a win.   Because find a way to win ...Patriots teams had that... it was set up for them to do that.  Both sides of the ball...the play wasn't made.

I think for me... when I see a 6 yard run....then 2 passes and a punt...  that's the worst.

I'm not worried about an identity so much as common sense.   I just feel feel if you run it 6 yards then have a 2 or 3 yard run after that..  it's a success for the defense... yet still 3rd and 1 or 2.   You keep control of the situation with the full play book at your disposal.   I mean...you can throw it 50yards... and still go for it on 4th

Then the opposite... you passed on 4th and 3 ...when you could have kicked a FG...why run on 3rd and goal from the 6?  Obviously you had confidence in the passing game a few plays before, makes no sense not to call a pass play when you need 6 to score a TD?

Just odd..... we move the ball well...and then an odd play at the wrong time seems to keep happening?

The teams identity last year...was a freakish weak schedule...very easy to bully those teams.

That's not the norm.    You aren't going to bully good teams.   They didn't bully KC and still put up 35.

But again, last years team was excellent and keeping it simple.  This year... a few games they made it difficult by not managing the clock well....or not running the ball.. or running near the goal line when a pass play would have been more legit attempt at getting a TD.

IDK...maybe the analytics are failing them this year.   Just very odd decisions.

Don't even get me started when the defense plays 9 vs 11 on the 3rd down plays where the two safeties are so far back you can't see them on the TV.  Just odd decisions.

It began when Steichen took over playcalling. Used all that investment in big physical Oline punching them in the mouth. Going forward.

That’s a decision that Siri basically preaches philosophically.

Siri came right out and said he wants the D to not give up the big plays. But to at least make a few big plays in return.

  • Author

Siri D philosophy very much believes in bend but don’t break. Problem is everybody knows this. So you could see perfectly how AR dissected that D approach very easily in the second half of the SB.

And if we let anybody run on our D? We are in big trouble. That’s more if a this year issue.

I know what your point is. But you hardly ever can see the S on the TV. It’s very hyper QB coverage. That’s what’s so fantastic looking at the All 22 footage at times. Then you really can see the coverage and what’s all really occurring. Very eye opening at times the All 22 vs the standard broadcast.

Decent summation. I say even during the games why do we STOP what's working? We always do it. I could have 1 play in my play book, the 6 yard run. If I can do that every down, why should I change it? Of course that is ludicrous, but just to make the point. We also have success on short crossing patterns, teams are having a hard time defending those, yet we keep going away from that. There is a weakness on every team,FIND it and EXPLOIT it and keep doing it until they stop you(but now you know it works so you can go back to that when they stop your new play). IDK the entire functionality of the team is different. If Penny is too bad to play, then cut him and find a hungry RB. He's getting paid to watch. I'll do that for 1/2 salary

Another STUPID play we use alot is the screens(I call them flares because they go to the sideline). SO, I'm ok with screens now and then, and some teams are very vulnerable to them, but when you pass all the way to the sideline(for maybe a 1 yard gain or loss) you are giving the opponent and extra defender, the SIDELINE. The only chance for YAC if you cannot seal the edges is to turn it back into the field. This stupid play is like painting yourself into a corner, then having to go piss. Chances are you aren't going to make either. Also you are asking more of your linemen,to run farther out,but it's difficult for a lineman to outrun a safety or LB. A "flare" pass to me is on the sideline,a "screen" gives you lots of green/space on both sides of the runner. Our RB's are proficient in space, when you can let them make a move.Throwing a flare to Goedert (on the sideline as mentioned) for a 1 yard gain is a serious misuse of the mans ability. IDK if the play calls are bad or if the OC simply doesn't understand what his players are good at. Perhaps instead of studying a playbook, the OC needs to study up on his players. I think despite the weak play calls,we have good people on offense who are not being used correctly. Goedert is a beast in open space, not on a 1 yard gain/loss to the sideline. We have RB's who can run routes,WHY are they not being used like that? I can't really recall when I have seen RB's out on patterns, they may go out to block, but really once again you are wasting their talent. Sometimes they run 2 yards out as a relief valve, but they are never called on to run DEEPER routes. Why not? Just lots of weird stuff going on here. So we "benched" DeSai. IDK if that is good or bad,but the OC needs benched because we are built for our offense to score alot and hold the ball a long time. Failure to do that gasses the already iffy secondary. I didn;t look, maybe you guys would know. Is the defense running the same simple play designs? We should be getting to QB's ALOT more than we are. That's what Howie counts on so he can scrimp on secondary players. And we all know turnovers will kill any team in any game. We're playing pee wee ball and we're even sloppy at that

Nah... usually see 11 guys on the screen when they peel back the camera...15 yards usually on those type of shots... I'm not talking about the tight shots where the LB is barely on the screen.   Just brutal giving up easy plays...and then it reflects on the LB coverage stats....when it really isn't their fault.  They have to cover the whole width of the field.

What reflects the most on the LB coverage stats is? That can’t cover. Don’t have the agility or speed. Would look completely different if we had Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen at LB. Heck looked much less an issue with TJ Edwards and Kazir White. Not known as fast LB either. The problem with the LB? Are the LB. The GM and you both don’t think it important enough to prioritize. Obvious glaring hole I’ve talked about through the whole offseason even. Zach Cunningham made that much of a huge difference. A guy just sitting on his couch. Now we need to hope Shaq works out for us.
