I have the super optimistic scenario possibility in my head that A few young guys step up and play great this postseason. I’m liking Kelee Ringo. Ben Van Sumerin looked ok in his first action at LB. Imagine those two kids…and maybe another one or two just clicking and playing amazing this postseason. Ringo plays like a shutdown corner. Or imagine just having a CB playing decent even. What if BVS clicks and plays well at LB. Maybe get Cunningham back to play along side him. Guess I’m just dreaming. Not much real reason to expect such thoughts.  Just feels like the bar is so very low with some of the play we’ve had. Blankenship only decent DB player we’ve had all season. He’s a limited athlete though really. But he’s by far the stud out of the five DBs at least normally out there each play. LBs been far from any strength. Just such a thin line between good/bad and great plays being made.
Give me a favorable ref call or two in each game?

Or we could lose to the Cards.

So look at the defense the last 2 games.   One long pass play where Blankenship missed his assignment.    And one drive where Bradberry gave up the yards.

Seattle lit up Dallas at home and did ok vs SF.    Put that in perspective.

The D has done fairly well since the switch.

When the offense decides to run the ball and the players stop turning it over.  Not far fetched to make a run vs a weak NFL.

Or... they could lose to AZ.  But I wouldn't bet on that.

Another crazy play was the second half opening KO. Obviously I’m rewatching the game right now. I like to watch the gashes more than once fairly consistently…if possible. Ive heard it seemingly wrongfully identified what occurred. Like O.Z. was just some complete moron that ran backwards like a chicken with his head cut off into Scott. All causing the fumble the giants recovered and promptly converted into a TD. What actually occurred? Was the giants player jacked O.Z. up so far he knocked him like over six yards straight back into Scott. It really was a fantastic play by that giants ST player to have created. O.Z. back there had zero momentum almost and ran into a guy coming full head of steam half of the field at him. That same giants player, I believe, also made the fumble recovery. Heck of a big time two actions in one play by the hated guy. Clearing the record on that play.

It's uncharacteristic for Hurts.   There are the obvious physical limitations with the arm and the height.   But this year he has shown mental lapses that he hasn't shown prior ....as a pro. I have no clue how he did in college from that standpoint,  but I never worried about his decision making prior to this year.

It's correctable.  Or perhaps he is pressing a little to male plays.  I feel he is at his best when he just takes what the D gives him.  He is excellent at short yardage accuracy... which allows for the YAC.  He is difficult to defend when he keeps playing ahead of the sticks.

Turnovers on 1st down are signs of forcing things.  Which he has to take blame for... but if the play call is a run , then it helps avoid that.  This is where I would like to see a change...which should come with this time of year organically calling more runs as the weather gets worse.

IMO yes and no. Some plays you just need to LOSE and move on,or perhaps not use every 4th play like clockwork. Hurts is best running on broken plays. I don't like all these QB called runs. Almost every play is a RPO when instead it should be play action(look up the difference) after establishing the run(which we do,then abandon). Some called QB runs work, but it's not very consistent.Another- Throwing trash sideline passes for 1 yard gains or losses needs to go. Tear that play out of the book,it STINKS. Firstly, using that automatically gives your opponent another defender, the SIDELINE. Secondly,it's not using Goederts strength(or anyone elses). Goedert is best on mid field crossers or at least on 5 yard min routes, yet we continue to use the screen so far out to the sideline(I call those flares) it's not effective. At least just toss it 1/2 way to the sideline so at least you can have an option to turn it in or out with defenders in front. With the sideline an automatic defender, those are bound to get choked off because we can't seal the edges,so just STOP. Put that damn play in the shredder and move on. It's a consistently bad play the OC has dreams of succeeding, but they are only dreams. Another-we are putting ourselves into to many 3rd and longs(because of the previously mentioned BS plays). That's an automatic tee off time for defenses. They know the pass is coming and they bring the house. This forces errant passes/drops just out of reach due to the hurried pass, picks,or forces Hurts to throw or run. In this case a broken play on 3rd can work with Hurts running, but gawd, let's stop making a habit out of it. If you want Hurts to be hurt, they are trying really hard to do that. I was pleased last year with the progress Hurts had made as a passer,a "pocket passer". The accuracy came up to snuff last year. His long ball got better too,so we abandoned that also I guess. IDK as I watch this offense we could be SO much better.AS i said,I was sitting on the xmas couch pre calling the plays because even I,as a couch coach could predict the calls. It's really sad when I can do that. I should not have that ability with an effective NFL team. Find 2 more plays you can steal online and replace the 2 I mentioned. They can't be any worse. Yeah I agree with the stupid penalties. I feel we are making more trying to FORCE being effective, because the play calls aren't good enough. I'm glad we are moving the ball some. We are doing that because we have good players, not because the calls are effective. We're moving the ball in SPITE of that. After every team seeing us this year, the 11 plays we run(of which 2 stink up the house) aren't going to work at crunch time,as we have seen during the 3 losses. At times Hurts looks like a deer in headlights, hesitation will kill you in the NFL. He can't hold the ball for 5 seconds AND make a bad play. Sometimes he is freakin amazing(like the busted play to Calcaterra), Now WHY did it take a busted call for him to get his first NFL catch? Yes he's been hurt, but now he's back. We need to use ALL the assets-ALL. Just as a last note I would like to see more stunts on the D side. We need to be DOMINATING on the pass rush, not just "good". We need that to offset the weak secondary. It's the same plan Howie has always had

I don't think it was a busted play from the route running perspective.  Sure Hurts missed the snap and had to go get it... but the route seemed to go with the play call.

lot of talk about us getting the possible two seed do we really want the two seed? As of right now if we got the 2 seed we would play Seattle…

Hasn’t Seattle beaten us like the last what 10 times we have played or something like that

We kick their ass if the game is here during the playoffs.

Rams and SeaChickens are my assumption of being the 6 and 7 seeds. We beat the Rams.,,but they worry me more in many ways over Seattle that actually beat us. No Mas and I agree on one thing…we shouldn’t have lost to them though. Got me thinking here BG. Very interesting stuff to contemplate and ponder. I don’t think I have the best reasoning to make the case for my opinion of preference more than….gut. Stafford scares me more is really all I have for my argument of preference.

BG....really you had to open this can of worms here where Ham contemplates losing games to get a lower seed...based on fear.

Keep it simple... prefer to have every game at home in the playoffs.   Prefer to have the higher seed.

Then enjoy your morning coffee.

Yes... keep it this simple.

And they're getting there with a lot of young players on defense. Ringo played 51 snaps on Monday, VanSumeren logged a career-high 36, Brown played 26. Rookie cornerback Eli Ricks was on the field for 29 snaps, rookie defensive tackle Jalen Carter played 21 snaps, and first-year linebacker Nolan Smith chipped in with 17 good defensive snaps.
Spuds has this to say….kind of where I’ve been looking a bunch this season for hope and optimism.

Add in Davis second year player without massive experience. Blankenship and Cam the same. Add in Calcatarra…after his two catches now. Ok …maybe that last one is taking it too far.

I forgot Covey returning those punts at the end of his second year.

This team is super frustrating to watch. Vast amonts of boo boo's followed by amazing reel plays. I'm out of freakin Prozac!!!

Idk when this happens(if it does) but the Lions worry me also. SF is beatable,we just can't do it apparently. Ravens going to the big dance if they keep playing this way

Agree Rams playing great ball right now. Nacua is killin it on my fantasy team. I have zero clue how we could cover him,Kupp and Atwell. Nice RB's for them also

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10102640-top-free-agents-eagles-must-prioritize-in-2024-nfl-offseason Since Howie basically avoids drafting them,I would be fine with Luvu and Samuel would be fine as a WR 3. He's been playing with trash QB's. Would be an interesting add to see if he can hit some numbers for us. A bit surprised at Dean. He may be one of those guys that once injured never really recovers. Howie would have to open the check book for Luvu, but it needs to be done regardless of which LB he spends for. The position really needs to be hit hard. At 27, Luvu can be signed to a long termer

Maybe No Mas and I should be listening a bit more to you both about Seattle here then. Gotta admit that’s really good compelling evidence on your parts. Think I possibly am walking back my position a bit now after you both point this fact out to me now. Think I’m taking the Loss on this one.

https://www.profootballnetwork.com/sedrick-van-pran-c-georgia-nfl-draft-scouting-report/  IDK if this kid will declare or not,but he would be a solid prospect to take over for Kelce. That would free up someone for RG. Or vice versa this kid could play RG. He is an overachiever and yet another Georgia addition, a team we seem to love dearly

I still like Trotter, even if Howie won't select him.Adding Luvu and drafting this kid with pick 1 would fix the LB spot for a long time. Van Pran with pick 2(saints)

I also like Cade Stover(TE) from OSU

So Carter with 21 snaps.   Remember he had 85 vs the Bills....kinda had an effect the following games

Nah.... we kill Seattle here in the playoffs.  Don't about 2010 or whatever.  We had them there...mistakes. we kill them here in the playoffs.

I can't legit want my team to win a Superbowl...and be afraid to play any team.

Just doesn't fit with the mindset of a champion.  You lose you lose..that's it. Worrying about the Rams or Seattle...if you lose to them you aren't worthy of being a champion.

If you truly believe in Jalen Hurts.... then McNabb, Wentz, Foles losing to Seattle years ago shouldn't matter.

But if you are just a poser in beliefs of Hurts....then sure.  Be worried.

Got me interested with this kid. Only critique here would be in "a team we seem to love dearly” ….dropping the "seem to”. Not trying to be too nitpicky. But feels like a key point to me. Good scout FL! I’m looking into this kid more…keeping an eye on him. Dearly love those Bulldogs!
