Outside Cb looking at QB just starting his backpedal. Theoretically he has a great view to break straight forward on any throw made. So in this picture he should be capable of meeting the WR at the sticks.

Idk...but he wasn't in the picture at the end.   He must have followed the TE incorrectly from the coverage you called?

There you go. Sounds exactly like the Slot CB blew it. I’m just guessing from one partial screenshot. But seems very highly probable. Not trying to come off snobby. But talking specifically about what’s occurring.

Hunh?  You don't see outside CB in back pedal?  Dude is nowhere close?  He needs to be moving forward to get to the sticks he is 5 yards back and moving backwards? How can you not see it?

Hes not turning and running with WR. He’s in position to see QB making throw to immediately break on the throw. In screenshot he should be capable at meeting WR at sticks breaking off seeing QB throw.

How would outside CB be moving forward?

Trying to politely just explain to you football here.

Ham... no shot the slot CB would have his feet set like he did....if he is supposed to run with the outside WR.

Please stop.   There is no shot this coverage was going to work .no shot any slot CB would be able to turn from that position and run to cover the out pattern.

Look at the feet of both guys... neither was in position to cover the out.  Stop trying to justify this brutal strategy.  Doin Sanders and Rod Woodson wouldn't be anywhere close to covering that short out.

Outside CBs don’t run forward before the throw. Just putting it as nicely as I possibly can.

Lol...the screenshot you can see the back pedal.   Seriously you can't tell he is leaning backwards?

Slot CB is clearly holding outside leverage in my view. Meaning the read is just getting ready to take place for him.

Lol... Ham...please stop it.  The result was easy pitch and catch for 8 or 9 yards. Nobody was close to the guy who caught the ball... nobody close from start to finish.

I said he just started his backpedal. When did I say otherwise?

You just aren’t understanding the basics here. Outside CB just started his backpedal I said. Looking at QB. Facing forward(in your backpedal) he can see and break on the QB throwing.

Ham...again..stop trying to explain the strategy and understand that it's physically not going to happen for the slot CB to get over to cover the out route as you see the WR running forward while he is square to the line.

It's a freeze frame...nobody's hip shift that fast.

That part stinks. Just start blaming the correct guy. That was the Slot CB responsibilty. I almost guarantee it. Had all the looks of Cover  3 coverage.

It’s called ‘Zone’

He is backpedalling...already 5 yards past the sticks...where do you think he ends up?  How do you think he then can meet the WR at the sticks? The WR is at the sticks on his next stride...CB as you said, is in backpedal

Zone coverage. Slot CB has outside around sticks.

Looking at QB. So in position to strike forward …facing forward still.

Dude....again... you don't see the issue here?   You think the slot guy is going to be fast enough to cover that pattern?

In backpedal you can see QB throw. You can break forward on the receiver. It’s not until the WR makes you turn and run that you lose striking forward.

Its not a video game, where you press a button to make your guy twice as  fast as the computer guy.

And how slow do you think the. QB throws?

Yes I do. Fundamental Cover 3 coverage utilized across the league. That’s his job.

I can't believe there is anyone who thinks they have football knowledge and thinks this is smart strategy for the defense?
