If Hurts plays well and some team is willing to give up more than a #1 draft pick for Wentz (say a #1 and #4) do we say no to that? Sure. he has a big cap hit. But you get two draft picks and don't pay him anything in 2022.

But they have to be blown away by an offer to trade him. He's not going anywhere for a second round pick.

Based on all you know now, what would you trade for Wentz? I can't imagine any good offers for him.

The weird part would be they are admitting getting rid of Nagy first. You would think he would be an extra connection to bring him in the fold.

yeah, I just stumbled across this article. This would team him back up with Foles. Should be interesting to see if they tender and offer BEFORE the season ends

Why is "trade Wentz" showing up in every thread? The $$$ says NO TRADE and NO RELEASE until after 2022. That's 2 more full years of Wentz on the roster before they can absorb the hit. He'll be here next year and the year after. Accept it. This team is not taking a 34 Million dollar (or even more) hit.

True, but case in point. Say we go after Lawrence or Fields. That "hit" is now spread out over 5 years, since now you have a QB on a rook salary. Or we can have Hurts and spread that out over 3 for the same reason

Way too skinny. 175 lbs? No way.

With no O line a WR first is a waste of time

The O-line can be fixed in later rounds. WR not so much. Over drafting O-line and getting no impact WR is a bigger waste of time.

LOL oh he can't add 10-15 pounds in the offseason?

yeah just like we have fixed it in late rounds every year. Never happened, It's a mess

Explain this to me. The Wentz guaranteed $$ says that if you trade him the immediate hit is 34 million+. Nothing is spread out. The Eagles will not take that hit. They simply won't do it. Remember they are 50Milion over the cap as is and adding another 34 Million is insane. They'd have to cut every veteran starter ,eat their cap hits and scrape by with a roster full of street FA's. Not happening.

No he can't. He's got a Desean build. One big hit and he's done.

They wouldn't add any money. The Wentz cap hit is already part of the $50 million.

No,of course you take the hit,but then you have ZIP for 4 years. I agree though they won't do anything this year.; We are stuck with him. So I SHOULD have said "averaged out" not spread out

His cap hit if here is 34MM. His total guarantee is 60 and as I understand it, that would accelerate if he's gone.

Nice you can predict injury. ANY WR can take a hit and be done(we should know cause we have them)

So would we take the hit if Chicago simply bought out his contract?

This is the NFL. They can't do that with NFL contracts like other sports. The Eagles are 100% on the hook for the guaranteed $$$.

OK I'm not a contract guy so I will take your word for it

That's if they cut him. If they trade him, they only owe him the $34 million. But the trade has to happen before the third day of the league year. They would have to make a trade before his 2021 base salary and roster bonus kick in.

At any rate, I was not expecting to see that article from the Bears lol. I figured they would just take a QB with their pick

The NFL is a horse of a different color.

So if the Bears paid us the 34 million(his guaratee) and also re did his contract, we would still take the cap hit?

Yes, and then some.

Here's an excerpt from a good article on the Wentz contract and why nobody takes it on.

The Eagles handed Wentz a four-year, $128 million extension in 2019, meaning that the big money doesn’t really even kick in until next season, when he’ll pocket a $15.4 million salary and account for a $34.6 million cap hit and $59 million (!) in dead cap.

The deal has a potential out after 2021, but there’s no way Wentz turns down the guarantees Philadelphia impulsively handed him on a silver platter. What that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the remaining three years of his deal.

  • 2022: $22 million salary and a $31.27 million cap hit
  • 2023: $20 million salary and a $36.27 million cap hit
  • 2024: $21 million salary and a $32 million cap hit

Those numbers become even more nauseating when you take into account that the deal comes with a combined $45 million in dead cap during that stretch, including $39.81 million between 2022 and 2023.

I don't see them doing that, or suggesting they will, just curious how it works

It sucks that there's no escape hatch on this deal, but there just isn't.

It's another reason I want Howie Roseman gone from the franchise.

Welp, then if we are all in, why the hell did we draft Hurts?

On Lurie now. It has to drive him mad that we have to start Hurts while paying mega bucks for a pine rider. Jebus we suck
