I will agree with some on this board think you have to give Doug full control over his staff. Let him sink or swim with his choices.

If he gets fired would not shock me if Doug looks to add Matt Nagy to our staff either as OC or possibly QB coach

Just read that Schwartz is going to let his contract expire and take a year off of football... Not sure if this is 100% true but could mean we need to find a new DC next year

I want teryl Austin from the squeelers(DB and LB coach)

Need to make this guy a full time DC.

SO Hurts is starting Sunday. Seems we are going to move on from Carson

Also to add think the Eagles could go either directions in terms of D style 43 or 34.

A 3 man front of Malik, Hargrove, Cox in a 34 isn’t bad. Think Graham would be alright again as an OLB not the best bit serviceable... Sweat could shine honestly freak athlete.

43 of course the DL essentially the same.

https://www.nfl.com/news/effectiveness-of-3-4-vs-4-3-is-found-in-the-numbers-09000d5d80d6974b   Right now we don't have the speed outside for a 34 and since we DONT draft LB's I can't see a change coming unless we draft guys for it THIS draft

It looks like this will be more of a preseason game than anything. I would expect all 8 olinemen to play, and we may see Sudfeld in the second half, since he will probably be active.

I am hoping the oline can hold up long enough to give the qbs a chance to make some throws so we can see what we have in the wrs.

Ostman, Avery and some others are likely playing for their pro careers, so hopefully they will show some fight.

Kris Richard could be an option as DC

What a stupid move.

Watch him blow an ACL

Why wouldn’t you get the kid more experience? Don’t think starting Wentz was much of an option for this last contest.

One game in a lost season isn't doing a thing for him

I mean OLB in a 34 is essentially your DEs in a 43... They get asked to drop in coverage little more but still the primary pass rushers.

If your going to make the change this is a great year to do so. As stated we have a NT and Cox/Malik would make a great pair of DEs in the 34 scheme

OLB is the main area as you stated we would need to address but we love drafting pass rushers high so don’t see the problem there. Is there a guy worth that in the top 10???? Not sure I also think sweat could thrive as an OLB and Graham not ideal but would alright.

ILB- think Singleton/Edwards would be better suited as well or even still draft Parsons.

Point being think we have enough pieces that we can make the change without a drastic overhaul being needed on the D side I personally prefer the 43 but don’t think Doug and co. Have to be limited to just 43 DCs

Also the guy you want Austin coaches on a team that runs a 34 D not against the guy at all but odds are if he he was hired he would want to switch to the 34 what he is used to.

Though guess in today’s nfl the base D is only used what 35-40% maybe of snaps mostly in sub-packages

It does a ton for Hurts playing time any kind aids him in this stage of his career.

I’m still super intrigued by the thought of Demeco Ryan’s.... Is highly praised by Saleh the SF DC. Hearing many think he could be the guy that replaces him as DC when he leaves to be a HC(or even go with him to be his DC). Always liked Demeco the play smart guy was a coach on the field when he played.

But man is that a huge gamble guy with I believe 5 years of coaching under his belt but at the same time he could be the next big coach he is aspiring to be a HC in the NFL and I would not bet against him would not shock me if he gets that opportunity down the line.

Disagree. If they plan to move forward with Hurts the chance of him getting injured behind a makeshift line is too great.

If they plan on going with Wentz it's not such a big deal.

He never had OTAs. Never had preseason games. Coming off a poor performance. No real pressure on him. I’m also very interested to see how he fairs against the super athletic defenders the Football Team presents.

Hehe, if he lives that long.

BG, I’d say your last point was the biggest. How many times did we see us utilize three LBs in our ‘4-3’?

We’ve been running a bunch of Wide Nine . Asking our Dline to attack. When I think about Fletch and Malik getting older.... that maybe their careers can be extended if asked to do less athletically. Instead of one gap they could go to a bit more two gap and be asked to hold their ground more than penetrate. Hargrave fits with all this.

With Schwartz out: Gerry lost a job. Mills most likely out as well. Burke Dline coach a big question mark. led the league in sacks. So his unit performed outstanding for the most part. Flajole has been a top notch LB coach. Really brought the most out of not much. Manuel just got here for the secondary. Really no idea how this shakes out for him. Do think he’s respected though. S coach, Tim Hauck, should be fairly safe. But you just really never know if a new coordinator is brought in.

We should be moving on from Fipp. ST hasn’t been very good. Not sure what kind of access he was allowed this season. It’s  just felt like we can find a better replacement.

Can’t play with fear of injuries... Hurts needs ton of work and getting reps is the best thing for him.

Could maybe make the case Barnett could be a fit as DE in a two gap 3-4. Asked to put on some weight this offseason.

Doug definitely needs to take a huge look at his staff and Lurie/Howie have to let him make the calls let him sink or swim with his coaching decisions.

Wouldn’t be worth in my eyes you would be gambling that he could play the position on top of his what 10m owed. Smarter option if we went 34 would be to cut him in my eyes free up the cap.
