Right so we paid him to do that. I would gladly take the loot also if I'm getting paid to stay home ( sorry, this is STUPID) I don't remember remember ANY other team having an "emergency" QB. The "emergency" is "we are a clueless org that needs a BU we can pay to stay home. Superb management(not)

It was during COVID. If the QB room got hit they all are out. See Denver Broncos having to start their WR at QB that one game. Didn’t cost us cap dollars to have McCown on emergency PS status. I thought it was a smart move. What harm was there?

So Ham in essence we paid McCown to play before "Duds". So why have Suds and pay them both? Senseless

From what I read McCown was only paid to be the COVID insurance QB why we let him stay in Texas in his bubble

Well,if the guy from NW didnt work you can't find a better guy off the UDFA list to try? Nah we just give up and thats that. Pointless waste of time. We can always count on McCown though

Drafted Hurts

93-my take. The timing was perfect to lose them ALL and start over from scratch. Fire Ped, Schwartz was gone, scrap the latest experiment for a new experiment. Alienate Wentz(myabe rightfully so) and bring in your shiny new staff and QB and call it a day. Now you have a whole new crew you can blame

IDK that that's true, I believe we signed him before that was even an 'excuse" not to play. Could be wrong

I’ve been on record as having Zach Wilson as my pick at #6 believing the FO will go get that new shiny QB you and that they are not high on Hurts

SO if they are all out, wouldn't all others be out with NO season? So we would be the only team with a QB? win be default?

Forgot to include fire Howie.  IMO that would have made a reboot complete.

I'm fine with Wilson/Fields, or a later round 1 depending on the deal we get. See nothing wrong with taking a Trask or Jones(or whomever). I only want Hurts to NOT be handed the keys because "he's all we got"

Think it boils down to two simple things it was the QB the FO wanted that got Doug fired. If you believe it was Hurts as the FO guy then Wentz and Doug and everything surrounding them is just good media feed by Howie to make a reason to fire Doug not just he isn’t doing it my way.

If you believe Doug wanted Hurts would suggest the FO isn’t high on him

I think the FO and Pedey wanted both QBs... but both wanted to fix Wentz. Wentz didn’t want Pedey. They fired Pedey for Wentz. But tarnished Wentz image of poster boy. So he still didn’t want to come back. Duce is the only one that wanted Hurts as the starter. I think both Pedey and the FO like Hurts. But know Wentz has that huge ceiling worth trying to reclaim. How to go about it the FO and Pedey differed.  Pedey thought he needed the power to force Wentz to listen, Be coachable and run the play called unless the audible situation is needed. Buck stops with Pedey ...or you are benched. The FO thought, like they have the whole time, to coddle Wentz and fire Pedey over the ‘fractured relationship’ Wentz had with the HC.

Couldn’t have guys on PS that we’re old before. Only this season with an increase in size of PS roster also.

Welp, that's a ridiculous reason to pay someone. If that many players were out, there would have been no season anyhow

He was on the PS

They did contact tracing. If Wentz got COVID. Suds and Hurts could have gotten it from him. Or the NFL quarantined players that were ‘contact traced’ (got too close to a person that’s infected) even if they didn’t have it....just in case.

Then you would call up McCown for one game

Ultimate irony-taking Trey Lance HAHAHAHA

Well that DID happen to Denver,so I guess it's a "whatever" moment

McCown was one of the better moves they actually did this last season.

Hurts, to me, is a smart guy and player. He’s a leader. He’s fast. He’s very competitive. He’s a hard worker. Very dedicated to his craft. Has handled adversity well. Very coachable. Can handle the pressure. Isn’t overwhelmed with the NFL. Has a good deep ball. Good at making quick decisions.

These things I feel confident about him is why I have no problem giving him a legit shot at it. He needs to improve and develop. Feel like he will.

I must be a slow learner because I can't know all that in 4 games. I need more proof

These traits he’s lived in college and in the pros. All the intangible boxes he checks. He’s also very athletic. Makes quick decisions well. He’s improved every year in college. Being a coachable hard worker,  it’s reasonable to think he will continue to improve for us. The main area I can’t already vouch for him is as a pocket passer. He threw for over 330 yards in two of his three starts(I don’t count Tankgame for obvious reasons). So he’s showing promise there. He’s got a good deep ball. Doesn’t have the strongest arm to throw it on-a-rope/like a dart as deep as the huge cannon armed guys.

IDK college is college and 4 games doesn't tell me alot. Things may not be so great after teams watch film and figure out how to defense him,so I will wait. Hill looked unstoppable too, until teams figured out how to stop him lol. What happens AFTER that is what makes the difference for me

Wentz didn’t want to listen to Pedey. Went complaining over his head to Lurie and Rosie. Was called uncoachable for never admitting fault in the film room, playing favorites with targets, regardless of playcall supposed progression and killing plays before he left the huddle(going rogue and becoming  the team’s OC and playcaller). Wentz wanted Pedey gone. Pedey wanted to have the power to be in charge to make a talented QB achieve his potential...but more importantly the whole team offense potential. They fired Pedey and brought in the next best thing to Reich for Wentz. But what they underestimated is the tarnish Wentz image took over everything. He still wanted out because he lost that golden boy shine in this city.

Good story.  I think the one I just told you is the truth, not local BS media looking for soap opera stuff.. more sports journalism.  But let me ask you... the issue was 2020 ... who was Wentz favoring?  Wasn't Ertz that's for sure.    But you know for sure Wentz went to complain about Doug?  What is your source there?   Sure seemed like Doug was favoring Wentz over Hurts to me.  Seemed like the draft pick, putting Hurts in as #2, using him for gimmicks was all Howie.   Did QB and coach butt heads, I'm sure.  Would any idiot watching the game realize that the bigger problem was our musical chairs lineup that both had to work with... yeah.    It is easy to see where player who was supposed to get the ball having an agenda to out Wentz if he didn't get it... as compared to coach being used to QB changing plays?

Really... can't see why it's hard to see why everyone had their biggest issue with Howie.... and why both could easily blame him for the results of 2020 more so than each other or themselves.  I don't think either thought this was a good situation as far as winning.... the other stuff would be worth putting up with if it was.  Winning cures all, people will sacrifice money to win, playing time to win, control to win... whatever.  Little things can become issues if you lose.    For example.... Jenkins leaves unhappy due to contract where they lied and never tried to resign him for anything real.... not an issue if we replace him and win.  Ertz in a yelling match with Howie while they are looking to have a players only meeting.... it;s an issue when you are the GM of a crappy roster.     It's obvious stuff here, not a good work environment, not for a veteran player, not worth the effort... move on.

BTW... all stuff I mentioned is well documented.. not " sources"  Duce isn't leaving happy either.   Jenkins thanked everyone but Howie in his goodbye.  Not rocket science.  Sometimes the simple answer is the answer.

Facing adversity in college by being benched and then being called on in the big game and delivering works on any level of football. That’s how he handled things. What kind of man is he. Fast, smart, , showing steady improvement through hard work and coach-ability in college ....that stuff translates to the NFL. All the list I just made in that earlier post. Those I already can rely on him for.

BTW... as the season was progressing.... reports coming out about Doug being fired or Wentz being replaced... then multiple sources citing Lurie isn't even thinking about replacing Howie.... IDK... that or Wentz changing the play from going to one practice squad WR to another?   I think maybe " the golden boy"  that was the issue there was the GM who... " never crossed the owners mind to replace"
