9 game inning streak..... including a 7 game stretch.... 34-7 ... then 28-23 in Carolina... 34-24 where Washington scored 2 garbage TDs at the end ... 33-10 , 51-23, 37-9, 31-3.... then Wentz gets hurt in first half after throwing his 4th TD...   They dominated a lot during that year and there wasn't a team that looked as good.   They started out 10-1.     Sure we remember 2 playoff games at the end, but that season was a journey where much of it was domination.  Physical domination at the line of scrimmage.   It's great that we like the underdog mentality... it's a Philly thing, we are uncomfortable being the favorite... hate to admit we are the more talented team... it has to be a story you can write about where we overcame the odds...etc.  That's great, we did overcome injuries to key players, Foles looked awful after the Giants game, so there was reason to doubt.  But from start to the moment Went got hurt, nobody was better than the Eagles... the rest of the guys finished the job.  But you don't sustain that kind of long term success... 2 legit losses for the season without having the talent on the roster.  And the depth.  Yuo don't win by that much of a dominant score... you don't put up 51 vs that Denver D unless you have some talent.   When you run the ball like we did, with the other team knowing it;s coming, and they can't stop us.... it's not a fluke.

yeah,I have been happy with the running game pretty much every year.Even the staff "meshed" that year.Losing Reich hurt some, but after he went to Indy,he really didn't have a stand out year. It's early, maybe he does well there, but no mistaking everyone down to the Gatorade servers, were on the same page

Sanders,Scott,Warren,Holyfield,Clement(I think we keep them all or trade 1 if we get in a pinch elsewhere). All 5 have the needed talent and Duce is damn good at getting the talent out of his guys. Can't wait to see if Sproles can help. He is not in a high position, but maybe that gives him time to get better at coaching since now he is on the other side of things .I suppose if that happens a raise a promotion is in order.Scott has a terrific mentor!!!

I want to see a Superbowl ... like 2017.   I don't care about looking at a schedule in May and thinking which games are losses....etc.     Dude... it must really stink to be you as a fan... nothing seems to make you happy at all?    1 Superbowl when we were clearly the best team in the league top to bottom from start to finish ... yet still not enough.... man life is tough.   and don't give me the " my standards are higher crap"  No they aren't ...you are an Eagles fan, the standard was never higher than it is now.

Hey Joe, I am plenty happy with my life for numerous reasons and obviously my happiness is not dictated by the number of Super Bowls the Eagles have won or the number of World Series the Phillies have won. If my happiness in life was determined by wins and losses of the Eagles what a shallow person I would be, not to mention, that I would have moved on to another team long ago. My happiness is often determined by relationships that have I formed with people in all walks of life over the years that have lasted a lifetime. That is what gives me pleasure. This is not the only Board I participate in. The Eagles board is just one I participate in.  On the Cancer board I talk to folks who wonder if they are going to make it through another year of living.  I win absolutely nothing if the Eagles go 16 -0 and I lose nothing if they go 0-16 but I do win when I can celebrate on the Cancer board with a patient who rebounds from a years worth of Chemo and is moving on with his life and has regained his health. The Eagles are small potatoes compared to that.  As far as this board is concerned I enjoy the banter back in forth with the board members and fans more than the actual games when it comes to the Eagles. It is interesting for me see what makes a lot of you tick just like others I talk to on other boards. Guess I should have been a Psychologist. I like Wentz not because he is a talented QB but because he is a good human being. Foles is another one as well. Its a shame the Eagles had to let one of them go. We need more human beings like Wentz and Foles on the planet as role models for teams.  One thing you can rest assured of though, As long as I am on this board I will say what is on my mind. I am who I am and will say what I feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. When it comes to criticizing Howie Roseman, I am a **** cat compared to others I have read.  We are all different, That is what makes the world go round.

So to your point,O and D can only work with what they have.Schwartz does fairly well with what little we give him. Ped gets more toys, but once again they always get hurt

But my point was that Schwartz guys are also getting hurt and he is still producing fairly well with whatever he has left....How many guys off the street has he had to start in the secondary over the last 2 years??? DT we had a 4th and 5th string guy starting next to Cox for part of the year...LB lost Bradham/KGH relied on a UDFA(granted some of it has to do with our undervaluing the spot)....And still Schwartz D usually top 15 or better in scoring defense which again to me is the most important thing how many points are we allowing. Can we say Doug has done nearly as good a job on his side???

As I have said I am a huge Dougie fan love aggressive coaches and Doug is fearless and we have seen him put together a good O even his first year with limited talent on O thought we seen glimpses but the last two years thought our O has been stale.

As for Schwartz not really my style( I will always prefer Jim Johnson type D aggressive blitzing etc.)but I can’t argue what he has been able to do with what he has had.

About TJ Edwards: This undrafted free-agent rookie signing last season paid huge returns for the Eagles' defense in the form of the highest tackle rate among linebackers with a minimum of 100 snaps in the NFL (20 percent, or 22 tackles on 110 defensive snaps) and the second-best run defense grade among linebackers in the NFL per PFF's grading system (90.3).

Wrang, that's lovely.  My point was simply ...as an Eagles fan ... at no time can you say we won a Superbowl.  We were the best team from start to finish in 2017.   Straight from the 10-1 start ..all the way to lighting up the Patriots in the Superbowl.  We dominated many games... ran the ball down teams throats.... showed physical dominance on both sides of the line, and won with key back up positions.   To " not brag"  about it simply because in one game we gave up " yards"  it was 33 points... many games in my lifetime we have given up more than 33 points.

As an a fan of a team, you can't ask for more than leading from start to finish, showing physical dominance, and overcoming injuries.  That was 2017.  That was a roster constructed by Howie.   2 seasons later and you want to fire him?  Because of draft picks?  There is more to being a GM than draft picks.   I disagree with a lot of stuff as well.  The results though, have never been better as an Eagles fan.   Enjoy it.

FYI.... just a quick look at the league and team's cap #s ... projected fro 2021.    If the cap gets lowered for some reason ... say $20 mil.   Not looking great for the Eagles.   But I don't see it.  The 2021 projections should be high for the cap... looking at 2021 revenue.

2021 Cap is based off of 2020 revenue, not projected 2021 Revenue. That is why it will be lowered. NFL is gonna take a real hit this year no matter how you spin it.

I don't care if we were solid from start to finish or if we get a few breaks and won the Super Bowl. The end result is all that matters to me as a fan. Lord knows we have had plenty of teams that "Should" have won but did not!

Lmao again you keep missing my point Schwartz has faced just as much injuries and put together solid Ds year in year out so why are we letting Doug have the injury excuses putting out a stale O ????

LMAO again you keep missing my point. IDK define "solid" when you get burned on long balls(repeatedly) and lose games. The object of the game is to score more points than your opponents. With no OFFENSIVE weapons, that is DIFFICULT to do.Our run D has been "adequate" Our pass rush last year did NOT exist and that puts alot of pressure on your sub star secondary and lack of top flight LB's.My point is with offensive weapons, you can keep the opposition OFF the field, but you need weapons to do that. Not rocket science here

Pedey made clear to stress the offense is going to look different. The four main areas he stated were: protections, screens, playaction and run game.

  • Author

Plenty to read into each area. I’m especially in the mindset of protection right now. Fran Duffy did a Pod with Will Shields and Stout. Not real long but just great football knowledge and talk. Stout breaks down some of the common terminology. And what guys are looking for. A great little snippet about how Stout coaches defense first....and played as a LB. So he coaches the Oline from knowing what the defenders are up to. He discusses his technique he teaches ‘The Flipper.’ He goes into Gap versus Zone blocking. And I really like he discussed how one player had to get a piece of the defender....but the goal was to leave room for another blocker to come get his piece.

Playaction will thrive off the other two being successful. If we can run the ball and get it out wide on some screens....that’s going to really open up things for playaction to strike. Really going to put defenses in conflict. You can’t go forward and back in coverage at the same time in full speed. Defenders will have to choose. And we have a great decision maker to pull the trigger in Wentz to destroy them either way.

I'm thinking as the season progresses we see Hurts run a few of those option plays

Sure...maybe. But I’m thinking along the lines of the basic philosophy of the offense in general. We have a very smart QB. If we can get the rest of the offense on the same page it will be lethal. A real hit ‘em where they ain’t approach. We are going to run the ball and throw screens to playmakers. You start overplaying that ....and WHAM!

I think of the offense as everything is a read....most of the time. If the D is in this Zone you do this. In Man you do this. If the defender is overplaying the In or Dig route I want it turned into an Out. It’s unguardable as long as everyone’s on the same page.

Put defenders in Conflict! That’s the name of the game for the offense.

Stine, I gotta be honest ... from my perspective as a fan, I only thought we had the best team in the league 3 times .... 1980 ... 2002  and 2017.

2003 and 2004 I thought we had the best team in the NFC, but weren't as good as the top AFC teams

1991 I would love to have that season back and play out without an injury to Randall ... even Jim McMahon was good except Randall getting hurt week 1, we just knew Jimmy Mac wasn't going to last the whole season.  If Randall could have made it as far as Wentz did in 2017, perhaps Jimmy Mac could have been the original Foles???   IDK... but we missed the playoffs by a game and we lost a game where our defense dominated so much, it took a blocked punt for them to get the ball near our endzone to score.  Decent QB play would have gone a long way with that team.... good or great QB play would have been interesting to see.

Wow... sounds like a guy that came in here in 2013 doesn't it?

But instead of thinking " we have a smart QB ,just need to get everyone else on the same page"    we can look at it like.... " lets get the players with talent in the other spots"   you know, like the RBs we had in 2017 to run the ball ...and the playmakers on the outside to throw the ball too.... which also opened up the game for guys like Ertz and Agholor in the middle and underneath.

While some might say.... " look how a guy like Agholor had a career year in 2017 ....   someone else might say, that his strength is getting the ball in his hands with a little space to work ... and that  in 2017 he had all the healthy weapons around him that gave him the space and the matchup vs a weaker cover guy to where he could take advantage.

These philosphies are all great ... it takes the talented players to " put the defense in conflict"     This goes back to the original idea of getting a speed weapon on the outside that fits exactly what this offense needs in order to work how the coach wants it to work.

A defense is never in conflict if it doesn't feel they are at a physical disadvantage in any of the matchups.  Hopefully DeSean and Reager can create that for everyone else to benefit from.  Hopefully Doug sticks to the run early and creates an easier game to play for his offense.    Philosophy is great... but will the coach stick to it and will the players be good enough to execute?     Let's hope so.   I'm on board with the idea of everyone else being as good as the QB part.    Same level is a better term than " same page"  IMO.

Solid would be like in the middle of the pack.   Again... big picture..... we focus on one aspect of " getting beat deep"  How often was it compared to other teams.   The " I don't care about other teams"  attitude doesn't fly... the whole idea of sports is to compare your results to those of other teams... it's to be the best at the end of the season.   I would define Schwartz defense as exacly that... solid, slightly above average ...etc.   Those are the results he has brought from the standpoint of wins/points against....etc.

People said in 2018 ... the offense " looked"  better under Foles..... it's not about how it " looks"   the results were the same 20 points per game or whatever the number was ...same as Wentz.   I'm not a big Schwartz guy, not loving how we " look"  on defense most of the time... not my style.... yet the results are pretty " solid"  when we look at the amount of points given up, and it is without the offense being able to dominate the last 2 years... on top of the injuries.

I'd love to see BOTH Doug and Schwartz not have to deal with injuries.   Then we can have a different discussion.

On the local radio station WIP ... they are debating topics each day.... the " once and for all debates"    The topic on Monday or Tuesday was McNabb ... " overrated or underrated"    To me his career was based on a discussion of ... " was it his fault we lost or not"     I don't like those discussions.... lets get Doug, Schwartz and Wentz enough help to not have to debate that.   Instrad lets have enough to worry about winning, not why we lost.

Wentz is not a runner,he runs because he HAS to because he is an Alpha competitor..I don't want him to do it.More injury risk, not worth it.I would rather he have 5-6 seconds per snap to execute his passes, ala Brady.Although this is a pipe dream, it is what you strive for and this should be Dillard's goal

Welp, thats a part of being "SOLID" in all aspects.Firstly,as I have said since time began, our secondary players need to turn around when the ball comes. Then we need to work on taking the bait on "double moves"

QB doesn’t have to run for him to decide option on pass versus run. Or screen vs shot downfield. And the other options I’m referring to are route options. Where the receiver reads the defense to determine his route.
