The one thing I will say about this trade is that it wouldn't have happened if the team didn't want Wentz gone as much as he wanted to go. I don't know what happened behind the scenes, but my guess is that once Wentz lost his mental game, they decided to move on.

Now the decision comes down to Hurts or a draft pick. I wouldn't trade up if I were the Eagles as the price is likely to be pretty high. But Atlanta, Miami and Cincy aren't taking a qb, so there is a scenario where, if none of those teams trade back, a qb could be sitting there at 6 that makes sense. But I wouldn't give away the whole draft for anyone.

The 28 year old QB who had a crap roster for 2 years wanted out.  The team had no choice but to move on.  What happens next for both will be very telling.

I hope Wentz plays well since it means we get a first instead of a second. But the fact remains that he was a very flawed qb. He missed wide open guys, held the ball too long, had terrible footwork and made bad decisions. Blaming the roster for him missing wide open guys and throwing a bunch of bad interceptions is just crazy.

Ham, again... stop thinking small.  The team needs to be built the right way.

1.  Get a starter before paying a 3/4 NT to come over and come out on passing downs.
2. Dream Team... get starting LB and S before paying backup DEs and trading and signing for your #2 and #3 CB.

The team in 2016-17 went right after their needs and addressed the holes first. then went to backups.    The dead cap and all the other side stuff is irrelevant.  Say they have all this cap space... does it change the fact they only drafted one pro bowl player since 2013?    It doesn't make them win if they have more cap space.... what it would do is prevent them from being bad. You can worry about the small stuff... big picture stuff is the issue.   Will always be the issue with this team.

And you can have " just fine"   again... I want to be disappointed by setting the bar high... not happy because we are " fine"

You mean a backup DE like our first round pick that year Derek Barnett? 14th pick we took our backup rotational DE in 2017.

Dream Team was far from perfect. A collection of talent....no chemistry!

But I’d say KC has still been built that same way. Emphasis on defending the pass on defense. Relying on the offense to be able to put up points. They got the pass rushers and corners. Took my S, I was high on in the second,  and won the SB.

There is a reason the condition wasn’t based on amount of fumbles

I prefer to think of us as rebuilding. We had an old roster we couldn’t get results out of. Now we are getting an infusion of youth. Got a bunch of young players snaps this last season. Maybe argue the last two seasons. I definitely see more of that occurring in the coming season. We have a pretty huge draft setup. Infuse away!!!!!!

The point won’t be where are we at week one.....but how much can we improve!

I agree on Miami and Cincy, but why would Atlanta be out of the QB market?

Miami and ATL are still in play for sure. I’d think we actually feel better about our situation with Hurts than they do with Tua. Very interesting with the intertwining of those two careers.

I don't think he needs to play well to get that 1st ... he just needs to stay healthy.  Doubt Reich is going to bench him in his first year with them even if he struggles a bit - he'll probably want him to work out those kinks in his game, the only way to do that is by playing.  Now if he is a complete disaster then perhaps that changes.  Personally I'm rooting for him to stay healthy for all of 2021 and play below average ball so that he meets the 75% snap criterion but they miss the playoffs so that we get a higher 1st.

75 percent of snaps for a first? He could not reach this by not playing three games. If they pull him in blowout situations also.  Maybe even have another QB come in to run plays. IE even having a Wildcat formation Wentz doesn’t run. Is COVID contact tracing still a factor next season? That’s an easy game or two. Then there’s just the fiat out durability issues of Wentz. Betting odds would say we get a second in 2022.

Ryan is 35 and put up some decent numbers last year, so if he has, say, three years left, it doesn't make sense for them to draft a guy, especially since they are really bad on defense.

Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes worked out ok

But they love Ryan. So they probably will choose to build up the rest of the team. They have the shiniest new stadium. QB and WR they love and sells tickets.

Lmao there are 100s of experts saying things because one said so it going to happen lol... I’ve seen numerous mocks and people saying they going Sewell sticking with Donald seen plenty that had Fields nobody knows anything as it stands now all a guessing game

But your guess is right lmao

They had the fifth best passing offense and the worst ranked passing defense. They need a corner and a pass rusher, and if they hit on those picks, they could be dangerous next year..

I guess we will see ... new HC Smith may want his own guy.  Anyway, I agree with your overall assessment of the team (decent offense, defense stunk), but I don't think that completely rules out the possibility of a QB with pick #4.

Third round pick is really weak. We need guys to develop and grow chemistry with the new regime this season. Not even a high third. Pffftttt

Howie has egg on his face

Then IMO you are looking at Fields, which noone seems to like because "noone takes an OSU QB"  The irony wouldn't be lost on me if we took Trey lance lol

I think Ham could be right here. He was never the same after the concussion. Some guys rebound from injury, some do not, or take longer than expected to find their way back. IDK where Wentz is on this spectrum

Miami will take Sewell, that will give Tua a burst of confidence knowing he may not be as pressured as before

Not real worried about next year picks, we need to focus on THIS year. We know we have a 2nd minimum,so assuming the worst we can plan better for THIS draft

Minor correction...a 3rd this year.

Got’cha.  Anyway definitely agree that the main focus needs to be knocking this upcoming draft out of the park.  I know I know ... Howie.  But even the proverbial blind squirrel ... well, you know.

If we are in full rebuild mode now (and we should be), hopefully we’ll have even more picks this year and next to play with.  Ertz needs to be the next to go.  I’d probably deal Slay if we could get a fairly decent return too ... by the time we are competitive again he’ll be spent.  I might even consider moving on from Lane Johnson.  Free up cap space, get draft picks.

Re Slay-yeah but he has experience,we need some young guys in here to learn from him before we lose him

So here's the question. Drafting Hurts- Stupid or genius?
