Brandon Graham doesn’t have the huge sack numbers but gets pressure. "He has consistently been one of the better pass rushers in the league. He registered 67 pressures last season and has been the third-highest graded EDGE of the decade by ProFootballFocus with a grade of 92.1, behind Von Miller’s 94.6 and Khalil Mack’s 93.5.” This from PhillySportsNetwork.com. I don’t think he’s been appreciated(other than the gigantic SB play).

Sweat also hasn’t seemed to pick up many fans. But here is a comparison vs the former number one overall pick. Sweat’s salary being slightly less. Sweat ranked number two league wide vs the run. And playing many fewer snaps last season you can see how he still stacked up with Clowney. He would seem ready for a huge season.
I’d say the same for Barnett. He’s made some mistakes but really it just seems injury has been the main thing holding him up. He’s finally healthy this offseason. I really just won’t be shocked when he puts it all together this season to cause mischief every week. It’s due...time for the investment to pay off.

Brandon Graham player sparingly his early years in the league. I still think he’s at a high level. He has three years younger legs than his age would normally dictate(via his overall career snap count).

These three should really set it off this season. Especially considering the three inside a DT. Should be seeing a wrecking crew of a Dline season provided the secondary actually covers somebody(anybody) this season.

Idk if he is getting all this pressure why can’t he get home???? Sorry I’m kinda over the pressure stat it’s nice to get pressure but at some point it has to either transition to sacks

At least someone who played for Army will be disciplined.

He didn't face a lot of top competition, but did well against two guys from Michigan, Tarik Black and Nico Collins, who will both likely be drafted next year. He certainly looks the best out of the UDFA DBs we signed, so I think he has a legit shot at making the team. If he plays as well as his tape shows, he certainly will make it over Rasul.

My feelings is it has to do with the coverage somewhat. No QB has been afraid to throw it up on our DBs. So pressuring the QB is a very legit stat. Then the QB has to get it out of his hands before he would have liked to. If you are any QB in the league why wouldn’t you just toss it up against a Mills in single coverage instead of taking the sack? Against Slay that should equate to more interceptions. A DE getting pressure on the QB that leads to an interception is great, right? Or what I’m getting to is the QB thinks twice of just chucking it up against a great or even decent defender....so then he throws it away or takes the sack. Dline relies on the Secondary. Just not many ways around that. The opposite is true also because not many DBs can just blanket a guy forever.

He had 8.5 sacks last year even still. Not gaudy sack totals. But solid. He pulled in 50 tackles and sets the edge like a champ also. He’s an All Around DE.

5'8 and as I'm sure you've been told... Those inches count.

Depends what his vert is. To use an EXTREME example, would you rather have a 6 ft CB with a 10 inch vert,or a 5'7" guy with a 36 inch vert? What is the reaction time once he knows the ball is coming his way? This is why shuttle times are important. Can the guy POP off the line? That comes in handy against the speed WR's.Whatever it takes to disrupt the play

Ever hear of a guy named Lito Sheppard?

How about Darrell Green?

Size isn't the end all.

I get that size isn't the end all. But he is undersized and that fact can't be ignored. It's a concern.

He is listed at 5’9 but anyway no those 1-2 inches don’t make a huge difference.

He played outside corner at times last year and I'll be honest I didn't see a particularly good option there.

He misses a lot of QBs on sack attempts.   Great dude in general, and good player ... but be honest. He misses more sack attempts than QBs randomly throwing up jump balls vs our coverage.  He has developed into an all around DE though in that he sets the edge and plays the run well.  He also rarely sees the double team as far as being a factor in his " pressures "

I disagree with that No Mas. Graham has clearly been the number two focus of OCs after Cox. They’ve given plenty of doubles or at least chip block assistance on Graham. I also think QBs have possessed tons of confidence vs our secondary. It’s a huge confidence boost for them preparing all week looking at the film of our DBs. Jalen Mills has four career interceptions. Why would that scare any QB off from throwing his way? Our DBs haven’t been turning and playing the ball much. You know QBs see that all week in practice leading up to playing against us. It’s a factor. It emboldens these QBs.

In fact it seemed like the book on us was to go with a max protection scheme. You don’t need a ton of receiving options going out because most get open anyway.

Maddox played injured last season. After the hit from Sendejo and the neck injury I’m giving Maddox much more slack than I normally would give a player. My hopes are he can shake that whole incident off and play with that same aggressive fearlessness that earned him playing time his rookie season.

So for Graham entire career he hasn’t been able to get home but somehow it’s the coverages fault?????? Mmmmm nah i mean 2018 Cox managed to get 10.5 sacks why can he get sacks but Graham can’t???

Mcluarin a generous 6ft is a bad option for Maddox really???? Because of those 3 inches???

Hollywood Brown is a bad matchup for Maddox because of him being a whole what inch taller at 5’10

Tyler Lockett

Stephon Diggs

Emmual Sanders

TY Hilton

can go down a list of WRs that are at best 6ft and under plenty of options why the size thing is overblown if the issues are with his actual coverage ability fine but his size nah just a weak excuse

crap I mean if 3 inches is such a huge advantage for players how does a guy like Tredevious white cover bigger players he did a number guarding Ertz who has him beat by what 4-5 inches.

How does Gilmore guard those bigger WRs he is giving up inches to how can he guard Julio Jones at 6’4 giving up those 3 inches to him

All our CBs played hurt last year.... Hoping a new medical staff can straight out our injury issues to some degree....I mean Jones was forced out to play injured on a hammy think it was the GB game and it was pretty obvious to see the hammy wasn’t right. Think we really shook Jones up shaking his confidence forcing him to try and play hurt. Glad he seemed to get some of it back toward the end of the year.

Still think Jones can be a good CB in this league if he stays healthy

On a side note reports saying Cam signed for the minimum in NE if that is true that is insane might have been to much controversy but I would have taken Cam as a backup at league minimum price

That may be true but then Douglas gets burned regularly and Maddox is majorly undersized for an outside corner. Maddox gives me major cause for concern because he's going to be smaller than pretty much every receiver he faces.

I don't think Maddox size is an issue he has played with that size all his life, with Big Tall guys all believing I can Moss the little guy. Maddox is quick, fast  and ultra competitive. Maddox has life experience winning against Bigger competition. It in those 25%of cases that I prefer a taller CB with hops on the outside.

Jones is my #1 choice opposite Slay to start at CB. Sydney showed flashes in do or die situations last year and came out on top. I hoped this would have been the coming out season for Syd, Sooo many unanswered questions on how we keep our players and their families safe. I sure want some football. Just NOT at risking our team and their families safety.

I'll take the quick little guy who can break on the ball over the big guy who can't stay with his assignment. At least in man to Man. Zone coverage can cover up somewhat for slow DBs

Graham had 9.5 in 2017 and 8.5 in 2019

I don’t think New England had much money to spend this year. They actually owed Tommy Terrific for once. That’s why they waited so long because Cam didn’t want to sign for that kind of price tag. But he has incentives for 7 mil. That way they can skirt the cap this season a bit.

We likely finally see our corners travel with the matchups this year. So whoever wins the CB2 job needs to be ready for every spot. I’d say size becomes more of an issue in the endzone and on short yardage. We clearly saw Maddox get beat his rookie year by the QB going high on him(pretty sure it was a game winner). So it is a weakness. But the guy came into the league his rookie year with a little pit bull mentality also. So he packs a wallop for his size. Gotta take the good and the bad and try to play to whomever’s strengths. On paper this summer it’s likely we have a S leaning towards the CB2 side anyway a fair amount.

They could always use Rasul against bigger guys. Maddox shouldn't be covering guys who are 6'4", just as Rasul shouldn't be covering guys who run a 4.3 40. But because of Schwartz's refusal to match up his corners, this is what often happened in the past. This year he doesn't have a choice since Slay is going to demand to cover the other team's #1 guy.

Mills can also move out to corner in the red zone or in short yardage situations, where he has excelled, and Parks or Wallace can play his spot.

The one thing we have on this defense is a wide array of pieces that can be moved around. Hopefully we will see that happen to create favorable matchups for us.
