The latest podcast with Mikell and Avant.

(97) Philadelphia Eagles Free Agency Flashbacks | "Q&A With Quintin Mikell & Jason Avant" - YouTube

It's a great show. They have a ton of cool stories from free agency, and Avant spoke a lot about how different qb styles can impact the play of a wr.

They talked at length about Mills, and said that he will be missed because of his attitude and his versatility. They seemed to agree that he is best suited for the slot and as a backup outside corner as he struggled somewhat at safety, but also said he improved throughout the year.

They didn't talk too much about the current members of the secondary. I was hoping they would have some insights on Maddox, Epps and Wallace, but they didn't really discuss them. They want us to sign Hooker and a CB named Troy Hill, who was really way off my radar. Hooker seems fine but I would bring back Rasul (if he wants to play here) rather than signing a slot guy.

Well, he had a bad year like everyone else. Here is hoping next season he reverts back to form.

We reworked Elliott and Mcleods deals so little more cap room made... this might be minor or huge do we think we bring in legit competition for Elliott? I mean how deflating is it for your O to all this work for the kicker to miss the FG. I know you want to punch it in for a Tad every drive but that isn’t realistic but we should definitely expect the gimme FG when we are in that position and Elliott was missing way to many easy ones

I can miss for 1/4 salary,where do I sign??

Yeah, it's pick your poison because even a late draft you have for 4 years, so I am taking one at 189 and getting a UDFA. Dont care if we have a "vet presence" or not really, let 189 and the UDFA battle it out for the pecking order

And I will go with the cheaper route and invest my draft pick elsewhere.   The vet presence is the 3rd reason behind using the draft pick elsewhere for our many needs .... and then the cheaper route.

My 4th reason is that I want to reevaluate next year.  We may have to use a high draft pick if we want to move on from Hurts.  Then we get the next vet to help with that guy, but can spend a little more.   We see how the UDFA works out at #3.   Or if Hurts works out this year and he is the guy going forward,  I can use a late round pick next year for #2.   Then you have control of the backup a year further down the road.

I eliminated any chance of people wanting to see another QB in there. Or Hurts being injured and replaced by a rookie that people want to see.  I want zero expectations or controversy from the #2 about him being part of the future.   And I also pushed the backup a year down the line if he works out. All while taking the cheap route and using the draft pick for something else.  189 could be a nice RB, blocking TE or special teams player... that we could have for 4 years.

Don't believe a very flawed vet would be a good presence

It's a guy who could offer experience good or bad.    It's not a guy he watches in practice to imitate his play.

And you made my point about the flaw and thus eliminating the idea of putting that guy in.

One thing they have discussed on the local radio is the possibility of getting Watson next year should hurts not work out. I am dead set against this. Watson had his contract reworked and now wants out? This is totally different from Wentz in that Houston did not draft a QB in the 2nd round and told him that he is their QB from now on. He has no one to compete with.

So what happens when he gets here and cannot work with Howie? We have another issue.... No way. Stay clear of this cancer. I really Hope Hurts works out. I also hope Wentz works out too so we get a #1 pick next year...

See they brought back your guy Killins, GB. WooHoo! Can go back to sleep now.

Actually want to see him compete and do well - good luck!

I'm not sure how to describe the Eagles?

"One Life to Live "   " As the World Turns"   ....the last few years could have easily been " General Hospital "

Howie can call all his late rounds picks he loves... " All My Children"

So saying all seems like Eagles do the opposite and Watson will be on his way.

Just saw news about an incident with Watson getting a massage. Love how all these things come out during either.. draft,  trade or contract time .... amazing coincidences.

Gotta make the players look bad so it isn’t the organizations fault they can’t take any of the failure in the handlings it’s all the player they are bad apples

It’s crazy to see how young Sam Darnold is he 23 bout to be 24 and we labeling him a bust. Dude has had highs and lows for sure but not much around him either. Think Jets would be crazy to get rid of him but if they do end up trading him think whoever lands him could get themselves a steal

Wow Barnett on the books for 10m deal might still get done who knows

Barnett making $10 million this season. Hopefully they draft a guy to be the fourth DE this year.

But I think they could have spent that money on a decent alternative.

Guess the one good thing with Barnett  is he gets basically a trial year in a new scheme and if he doesn’t pan out he is off the books completely for 22.

And if he does have a good year can always extend later on.

Jags getting calls on Minshew makes sense dude as played well over two years on the right team could win games for you.

Bears if they strike out with everyone else Minshew wouldn’t be bad competition with Dalton. I think Dalton and Minshew are upgrades over Mitch.

Or a BU QB with upside for 4 years

He is  BU, nothing more. he was a RB at UCF,but really he's SUPER FAST, so perhaps they can find a use for him

Didn’t see Killins much but watching games with Huntley last year he was explosive I’d like to see us find ways to get guys like that on the field even in just a returner role

He's small, like Sproles was. Tough for a guy that small in the NFL,but Sproles did it. Not saying he is Sproles, but he has that build, quick and elusive. he ran ALOT of routes out of the backfield at UCF, so he could be a guy you use 5-6 plays a game to keep D"s off balance. Guy you could pitch to or toss out in the flat. IDK what type of O siri wants to run

Yeah IMO he would be good at it

Never liked the Sproles was small he was short but dude was like 200 pounds I had good 5-6 inches on Sproles and we weighed the same that was a stout strong man

SOOOOO if you have a BU vet who is a BU and always HAS BEEN,WHY would I want him teaching my starting QB? If you wanted to hire Brees, Manning(Peyton) or Favre on the staff, I'm all for  that. One thing my HS coach always said "Practice does not make perfect, PERFECT practice makes perfect" SO why would I want a 2nd rate QB teaching my golden boy?

Vet QB won't be teaching Hurts.  I should say, shouldn't be. Should be coaching staff fulfilling that job.
