Ham, remember a signing bonus cannot be prorated longer than 5 years.  This is a factor in why you see Mahomes contract structured differently.  The roster bonus work same vs cap as salary in the end, but player gets money guaranteed if he is on the roster by whatever day is the trigger.   Basically, just like Wentz,  there will be restructuring multiple times.  Now both the player and the team has leverage in their own ways... with the player getting some guaranteed big money without risking injury.   Win for all... well, except the greedy Jerry who forced his guy to play for minimum the last year and risk losing everything due to injury... now he pays in cap hits.

Yes this is what I’m thinking. But it clearly was a different approach than Wentz. They both were given extensions with two years remaining on their rookie contracts.

Or... since Dillard was actually the primary backup LT and earned his spot... the question should be... should we have kept Peters or the 11th guy that we had to develop.

Did we need 7 DEs or a 3rd TE?

It's why I don't want 9 WRs like you do.  Being the 2nd oldest team was magnified due to a lot of the " young" guys being " developmental" 4th strings who never played.

Playing Dillard or not playing him is a different conversation than keeping a 4th or 5th stringer to develop.

No, I believe the idea is if you kept Peters he would start. So they decided to go with youth, in Dillard. To the last paragraph: yes deciding whether to make a guy a starter is a different conversation than fifth stringers. But my point was related to youth. Youth can serve as first round pick starters or....depth backups.

You figure out which one you think has the best potential... he makes the team, the other guy(s) depends on how the roster shakes out.  Alshon on PUP and if SF guy even has anything left are factors.   I think forcing your way of thinking without letting it play out is a mistake. Also assuming that we get a player poached but don't do any poaching is a stretch... really it's arrogant in thinking that way due to this idea that we draft so well that teams want to steal our guys... or you could say it's very pessimistic at the same time thinking that other teams never let a player get away.

I think the returner spot is key.  I hope that they realize the need for the speed WR in this offense and a need for depth there... a good way to add depth and keep it our the roster is using that type of player as your returner. Without Sproles now, hopefully that is the case now.

I’m not forcing anyway of thinking in early July. I am contemplating however. You can call worried about a guy getting poached arrogant. But what was the point in drafting them then? Obviously our front office, scouts and coaches saw something in them worth using a draft pick. So the question I posed was more would we be better off with investing in a high ceiling developmental receiver over a limited veteran like Ward? Like you said in the post I quoted before we can’t keep ten WR. So there is a balance.

We have several return options. Our first pick clearly comes to mind of getting a shot at the job. Extra place for him to get touches and get involved early on also. But Reagor winning the return job(I’d say he’s the odds on favorite) isn’t doing what you are talking about.

No Mas, you credited me with wanting to keep 9 WRs. But my point was exactly the opposite. That we can’t keep that many. That’s why I don’t feel Ward is a lock. We MIGHT be better served with options from this year’s draft class. Maybe keep two out of the three late picks(including Bailey undrafted) than Ward. Probably not the best option for week one of this season but potentially better for the franchise long term.

Our biggest upcoming loss would appear to be at WR. DJax and Jeffrey are on borrowed time. So we need to develop some WR. We stocked up the cupboard with this draft(probably include JJAW). We need Hightower, Watkins or Bailey to step up. That looks clearly like the plan. Not just the 2020 plan...but longer term. But I don’t think anybody would tell you any of those three are expected to be ready by week one. So what do you do?

Watkins signed. Need his speed to replace Djax who appears will be looking for a job

I call total BS on this.  I think you will watch every play of an Eagles game. Stay on this board.  Play fantasy ...etc.   There has been nothing going on during the this .. if football comes back as one of the few normal things... you will watch. I guarantee.

Still on the fence about it. Goodell ruined the league, could have said "no disrespect" out of the gate.Instead he allowed 50% of the viewership to become alienated. Not very good business.I am all for your first amendment rights(and will defend them).DO what you want.think what you want,,act however you want on YOUR OWN TIME. Kneeling and disrespect do not belong in sports. It was the last vestige of sanity and escape, but Goodell ruined that.He allowed the NFL to become a stage for protests and now it's all a **** show that I may or may not watch again.I can read scores and W/L columns just fine.If he allows 2 "anthems" I am DONE.We spent 243 years overcoming segregation only to go right back there? Don't tell me I will watch, because my principles are more important than any game

So,IMO( it appears Djax is out(again cause he is too stupid to learn anything). Not as a primary reason, this is why I was pressing us to sign a 1/2 way legit WR like Perriman. I did not forsee,or plan for this Djax BS,but it was a cover. Alshon is doubtful to start,so we are now looking at 2 rook WR's outside in week 1(2,3,4 whenever).Looks to me like that will happend and Ward/Jjaw will play the slot to open the season

I am NOT surprised, many are ready to ship DJax out. Funny we Americans can talk about 400 yrs of slavery , Murder ,Rape , Police brutality, Lynchings of African Americans, The murdering , theft and destruction of Black cities and black citizens.  Privitised Prision systems housing over a third of Black American males Encaserated in States Prison Systems and used for Cheap labor. Riley Cooper had his 15 minutes of fame. His black teammatesforgave him. Did DJax post lies in his Instagram.  Was it Lies? No. But now he is Anti Jew, Now We're Insensitive to Jews . Really. Ain't heard too much Black Insensitivity after 400 years of Slavery. Jewish people live in America. Have they seen how Blacks have been treated. I mean it only been maybe 400years of death and persecution and Systemic racism for Black American citizens. Today in America black people are being persecuted and murded publicly. A bunch of White Media hacks want  to scream Anti Jew against a black player. It's sounds like blasphemy to say anything  about the Jewish people.. Y'all get it .  Right... It's Systemic Racism and continuing Demonizing of Black people. ENOUGH.

I believe KC is more cap restricted this year... like barely any room.   I'm sure it is designed to get Mahomes money without going into this year.  Thus all the weird stuff you don't normally see. Roster bonuses and clauses that are not the norm.

When you draft... it gives you the sole right to the player.   But we've seen plenty of times when draft picks get forced into the roster instead of quickly admitting the mistake.   You draft on potential... but you can have an idea after camp if the player doesn't belong.   Draft is just one source of acquiring talent.  You could ask yourself..." why did we sign this guy" if we aren't going to keep him.

Let it play out. Obviously if it's close the young guy gets the nod. But it depends.  We will poach other players too.   Happens all the time.

I think worse than making a mistake on a pick...is doubling down on it.  You bring people in through various ways..  who stays is the more important issue.

Nobody is a lock towards the back part of the roster. I remain consistent on that.  Its simple...where as you like to make it rocket science.  Let it play out, many things behind the scenes we don't know.

One example.  What if Wentz pretty much demands Ward to be on the roster.  What is better for the team long term in that case?

That’s some really tricky territory. Wentz is obviously a huge deal and the Franchise QB. But the team has to be careful not to let him get out of control. He deserves input. But demanding personnel is a step too far. Just not the job of a QB. We have many other people getting paid with this team to work on those issues. Now if Wentz has a major beef or issue with a guy and doesn’t want him as his receiver.....that I listen deeply to. Like if Alshon dogged him out to the press so terribly that Wentz was fuming and demanded him gone...then you work to make that happen. But all this is strikes against your franchise QB. You want him getting along with everybody. Taking charge and commanding respect across the whole locker room. Heck even most of the league. Even having the strength and character to work out differences with others.

Is really giving his input that he wants a certain WR to be one of the 6 or 7 they keep that big of a deal.  Chemistry with your QB is important on and off the field.   See, that;s my point.  Very legit to think ahead on your part.  Very legit that nobody is a lock to make the roster.   But also legit to let it play out and see... regardless if Ward is better now, maybe they think he has a higher ceiling than one of the guys they drafted and/or shows good chemistry with the QB..etc.   Lots to factor in.  One solid WR as your 5th or 6th guy over a flyer, isn't a big deal.  They had 10 draft picks... 10... hopefully they don't feel the need to keep all of them plus then alos this guy Bailey... never heard of him, I know Philip Bailey from Earth Wind and Fire, not sure who this other guy is that should be offered anything more than a shot at camp... if he does well, probably PS.  They need to make an educated decision on what they think the futures will be AFTER seeing them in camp, not in college film.   Different world in the NFL.

Yeah,IDK.We worked 243 years to get(or try) to get rid of racism, only to go right back to all of it.There are far wing factions on both sides. It was never like this before. Then again,I am old and remember the "good old days".Can't even say a word now without offending some snowflakes on either side. Brees was basically slapped for standing up for his opinion. There is no free speech now.I was wrist slapped on FB for my opinion, denying me my first amendment rights. I have friends from all races and most religions. They are not 'extreme".We have different views and we can talk about them as adults, but we remain rational and while there is still work to be done, going back 243 years to square 1 is a total waste. It's just SAD,and I still blame kaep for bringing politics into football and for Goodell for allowing it to happen. If you go to Arlington, point out to me from a distance which tombstones are for any race. They all look the same to me and this is where you should kneel. Djax apologized, perhaps he really was unaware, who knows. We shall see where this goes

Think this is an issue for us and other teams.I think the more you master this the better your team. When to decide when a player is a WIP and when they are a waste of your resources.Sometimes that is a thin line. Some players take more development time. The idea is to know when to throw in the towel

I don't see Wentz as demanding. He is an Alpha male competitor. He will use what the team gives him.I did not see him demanding we get any certain WR in FA(or any other player).I think Wentz would bust even if you gave him a pee wee team to QB.He seems unselfish, that was a quality I liked about him when we selected him.He accepts who the team gets for him, tries to get personal with them all,has camps with them for chemistry and does his best with what he has
