They are both going to be drafted in the top half of the first round of the NFL draft, so people who get paid to evaluate these kind of things believe they will be among the best corners in the NFL, or else they wouldn't get drafted that high.

I don't know what point you are trying to make, unless it's to be as obtuse as possible.

They get drafted that high because in relation to the other " college" players, that’s where they rank as prospects.   It's not the same for a WR going against them as it is an established NFL CB.

Your love for a guy that threw 11 TDs to 10 interceptions instead of Hurts is amazing. His highlight game he threw for 279 yards with two TDs and Two interceptions. Oh...and it was his second season

Because while you look at stats, I watched the games.  The actual throws.  There are a lot of circumstances that dictate results..  just like a certain QB that led his team to 9 points...while throwing ZERO TDs and 2 picks.... in the superbowl.   We will see this season... and don't give me chemistry or he took a yoga class or some other intangible thing.  You give a QB with all the tools some proper weapons and a little time, and it's a game changer.   One should be able to see a QB who has all the tools and recognize it, instead of reading off stats, which came from various factors.

FWIW- I offer this. "The move back to 12 is better to build a team". OK maybe I can buy that, but I still feel an there is another motive. Howie stocking up on 1's next year is a CYA move for him in the event Hurts can't cut it he is prepared to move on despite saying "Hurts is our guy". Only time will tell. Maybe it's the smart move on both counts. We shall see as time goes on, but still feel Howie will cover Howie first

It was Danny Dimes second year. While you give him the pass yet are ready to drag Hurts through the mud.

We both understand this is only a prediction. But very logical captain. Live long and prosper - (LOL) Mr. Spock

Who was PFF's highest rated passer for passes thrown over 20 yards?   There is a stat for you since you like them.  But if you actually watched without bias either way... you see one guy who can make all the throws, the other guy who struggles to make the more difficult ones.  It's really not that hard to see.   The guy who dumps off a screen pass on 3rd and 20 because his coach doesn't have faith in his arm, and the defense all take the wrong gap and allow the WR to run for a 43 yard TD .... and the guy who throws what would be a game winning completion downfield on a 3rd and long... pure pillow in his TE's hands, but he drops it.  The first guy will look statistically better, I'd prefer the 2nd guy though, once you put the adequate talent around him, he can do more for your team to succeed.

I thought this was already assumed?

Ryan Leaf could make all the throws

You must be stoked on signing Flacco. He has a big arm and can make all the throws. Must make him an elite QB, right?

  • Author

Hurts can make all the throws. He just can’t put it on a string deep like Vick could. He can’t just flip his wrist for a fifty yard pass like Vick either. But I think he’ll be just fine. Every QB has their limitations. Hurts isn’t super tall and doesn’t have a cannon for an arm. I can work with that. He’s got a good deep ball even still.

  • Author

I heard this guy in Arkansas can throw it sixty yards from his knees. I’m sure, No Mas, you’re ready to sign him up. He can make all the throws...even from his knees.

QB position is sooooooooo much more than that.

Same reason you still don’t understand we won our SB. We weren’t the best, most talented team. Gotta have talent, yes. But the chemistry....those guys were ready to face any adversity and ride or die together. Made the 53 pieces stronger than any individual piece.

Last season I think we could have been ok with most any of those Oline combinations....if we could have stuck with it week in and week out. Just have five Oline gel together. Have the rest of the offense have a reasonable expectation for what to expect across the line. But there was no consistency. That really lead to Wentz and Hurts probably kind of expecting the worst. Rushing throws, not seeing the whole field and maybe abandoning the pocket before it was needed. Even effected the RBs a fair amount I’d say. They were ready to make a move in the backfield instead of looking for that hole.

Tank Game Oline wasn’t working for anybody. That was the exception. Third or fourth string T that weren’t going to cut it. Really wondering if Toth or Pryormake the team this year. Stout is still here is their only hope.

  • Author

Moving back to twelve really ups the chance we take an Oline in the first. I’m thinking Darrisaw could be there. I see him as a great RT. If Slater fell we’d snap him up. He’s mostly known for shutting down Chase. Which we could really use. Of coarse then they’d just move Chase to the other side I’m sure.

I’m sure you guys are up to speed on Farley. He is totally in play for our pick. Tall long corner that has all the tools. He is supposed to have minor back surgery. So he didn’t run at his Pro Day. Guy could be a stud. Back surgery always is a big worry for me. Having back problems is a really quick way out of the NFL. Horn tested through the roof. So I’d think Horn probably moved ahead of Farley. Farley has arguably the highest ceiling in this class. He needs more experience. He is a swing for the fences type pick. Can Rosie afford to pick guys like that? I’m thinking he’s going with the safest players that will pan out.....as capable...,not necessarily studly. Rosie really has a ton riding on this draft. He has to be perceived as successful in this draft or he’s out. He has great ammo. So I think he can turn the perception of him around very quickly with a few good picks. Don’t think he has the long leash like before though. All the blunders will be water under the bridge if he can pull four good players out of this draft. Like it or not....that’s all he has to do.

Whelp BG, it looks like the Eagles are thinking the same as I do about Wilson. They were willing to trade up to three ...,only if he was there. Meaning not sure he doesn’t go at two. Niners will take him also if he doesn’t go at two. But he’s probably going at two. So he wasn’t going to be there at six like you thought. I feel like this whole trade really confirmed my thoughts on him.

It's for that reason I almost hope he whiffs again this year.  Almost.

It's like wanting to root for them to lose (to get into better draft position, whatever).  Your gut almost thinks that but when the time comes you can't help rooting for your team to win.

Sadly makes total sense. But I’m going with the positive view. Hoping all of Rosie’sblunders add up to give him the knowledge and experience going forward. The pick at six was going to be easy. Twelve is much less sure fire. Rosie is a smart guy. He blew draft picks on vets that didn’t fit...,or weren’t very good(Tate and Avery). Plus we’ve been in the playoffs with a mediocre team. So he’s had very limited draft ammo. So now he’s stacking the draft deck. Almost no way he comes out of this draft with nothing. I think they said we have the fourth best draft ammo this year. Probably will be in a similar strongdraft position next year. This team needs an infusion of youth soooo badly. Exactly what the doc ordered for a quick rebuild.

Is it possible that reports got confused about us wanting to trade up for Wilson? Because we were negotiating with Miami....so they couldn’t envision Miami trading back with the Niners...then wanting to move back up with a trade to us. I could see how they just got a tiny lead about us negotiating with Miami and ran with this whole idea of our plans for the third pick.

I don’t think so I think we wanted Wilson the price just got to high. Clearly seems to me we don’t really believe in Hurts but he will get his chance

Think this actually hurts our chances to go OL think at 6 Slater was in play for sure but top Ts will be gone and don’t think Darrisaw is worth it... I think D is the play at 12

I don’t think You have to go to that level. I’d think most teams would like the second best QB in this class. We’d love Lawrence also. Doesn’t mean Hurts can’t play.
