There a reason this Eagles team doesn’t have a ton of faith in Hurts and is being connected to literally every QB available. Hurts needs A LOT. Of work in terms of being a QB

At the same time, they turned down the chance to move to 3 and draft a qb, so they do have some level of faith in his development.

They are hedging their bets, which is smart, and Hurts is still somewhat of a longshot to turn into an above average qb. But the reason people bet on longshots is because they pay off so well.

Or they lost the battle to get three and settled for Hurts which is what at the start was a possibility.

Believe he already did. All he has to do now is draft a few good players. We have arguably the best draft ammo of just about anyone.

Howie covers Howie, nothing more than that. We had Wentz, yet he "wasted" a round 2 pick on Hurts. So was that a BAD pick or is that now a GREAT pick? See how the perception changed? SO with trouble in River City, Howie" bailed us out" by taking Hurts (aka Howie looks good) OK so the Wentz fiasco, coaches fired, staff cleared because my god there is no way Howie could be responsible for the terrible team we had last year (sarcasm at no xtra charge). Last few drafts stunk up the place. Fast forward. Howie covers Howie(remember and see the trend). SO now you have a round 2 QB that "saved your bacon" and you impressed Lurie with your "draft expertise"(more free sarcasm, but hey thats on Lurie). SO for Howie to cover Howie he has now aligned 3 round 1(possibly) picks for next year. Say Hurts balls out(win for Howie), say Hurts sucks canal water(3 round 1 picks=win for Howie because you know he saw this coming right???) SO see Howie covers Howie and he has Lurie snowed. Whatever draftees we get will be based on Howie covering his arse,so plan the draft based on that assumption/fact. With next year pre-set for another franchise QB pick, Hurts is expendable this year. As Joe said, we will probably bolster the lines which gives us a year to sort through the guys who will start NEXT year(2022).With 11 picks I'm sure we will pick up some skill players for the same reason. Fact remains Howie understands he is putting Hurts neck on the guillotine. Sink or swim,it really is immaterial this year because in either case/scenario, Howie wins (in his and Luries eyes). SO approach the early part of the draft from his perspective that "no matter what, I need to come out smelling like roses" There are no more reminders of the past around,he buried them like a good hit man would. back to square one. Howe kept his job because Howie covers Howie ALWAYS

Then we would have had no QB at all and had to FA TWO

It doesn’t make Hurts a good pick it was a terrible pick that shouldn’t have taken place. Hard to say what happens if you draft a player that could have actually helped the team in that area over a backup.

Best case scenario Howie lucks into a QB worse case scenario we wasted another high pick on a player that won’t be here long term

Never said it was a good or bad pick, I'm saying it was a pick so Howie could do a CYA. It was a bad pick at the time, but if he didnt make it we would have to find 2 FA QB's

Or you draft a QB this year with Flacco or maybe Wentz doesn’t get traded if you get him a WR like Claypool with that pick lots of unknown variables

We may take one late, as QB3.We already removed ourselves from the QB derby and set up for next year. Not really tough to see. Hurts is expendable while we rebuild. His success or failure is immaterial. COuld get lucky and have the next Jackson, but Howie isn't counting on it. Howie covers Howie-ALWAYS

If you wanted a QB this year WHY would you move back from 6 which was in striking distance? Nope,we removed ourselves voluntarily to get more picks to rebuild with. BTW it's a crap shoot, Noone could see how Claypool turned out, or JJ or Reagor doing nothing

The Hurts pick just highlights our piss poor our draft room is... We opted to draft a backup over getting someone who could actually help the TEAM in round 2.

If Hurts works out it just shows that Howie has a horseshoe up his ass but what stops him in 3 years time from paying Hurts huge money then wasting another 2nd rounder on a QB.

Needless to say nothing changes my perception that the pick was terrible

IDK that 1 round 2 guy would have made alot of difference last year

Unless Hurts is an MVP this year he will be our BU QB in 2022

I think Joe is right, and we continue to trade back as boring and uneventful as that sounds

Who knows does not having Hurts change Wentz mindset does having a WR who can actually get open help the offense??

Point though is the Hurts pick made zero sense and that isn’t going to change for me

At the time it didn't, but like I said we would have had to go find 2 FA QB's if Hurts wasn't around. If Wentz is too scared of competition, I'm glad he's gone He had Djax and Alshon a few games, didn;t seem to help him much, so still say one guy would not have changed much. Wentz would still be tossing picks and taking sacks no matter who the WR's were. And BTW it was cheaper to draft a BU QB to Wentz than it would be to pay another FA BU

SO, would Wentz have had conniption fits if we had picked up Flacco last year? Gotta have  BU and he should know that
