I'm liking Elijah Moore for us. He is the JJ type we missed out on last year. Should be there at 37

This is a good point and an example of the team not necessarily making the best draft decisions. We picked Hurts without any real thought into how we were going to use Hurts. Just like we drafted Reagor without a plan on how to use him (and JJAW, and Davion Taylor, etc.) This is why this is a pivotal draft. We shouldn't just be picking football players, we should be picking players whose traits match what we want to do. Hurts could be really effective running an offense like the Eagles allegedly want to run, but he has to address perhaps his biggest flaw. (Ironically, Wentz will also have to improve his accuracy to play in Indy's offense.) So we have to be prepared to cut ties with him if he struggles. It also means we should be looking for a prospect that matches what we want to do (Davis Mills) or looking for a qb next year.

On the plus side, I like Reagor and Watkins as fits for this offense.

My thoughts are we set up for next year. Hurts is a place holder. "do the best you can" ,but really feel he is expendable. He could surprise everyone and ball out. Which is the best case scenario, but Howie always covers Howie, so now he has set us up for Hurts' failure. I'm just hoping this draft we get players that stick. If we are going after a FA QB we need to make this team more offensively appealing. If not,we are still in a position next year to take the top QB

Thanks for sharing that.

Just a guide, an "average of opinions". I use this and compare to the more popular boards like Walter, PFF or Draftek. Some of the lesser boards are off the mark and effect this one, some, but it's a nice quick reference

Yup, he will have to process extremely quickly, which is not his strength. But it will also be easier in a west coast offense than it was in doug's vertical passing attack.

This video does a great job of describing Hurts' weaknesses, but also makes the point that his accuracy is okay and he does offer a big upside as a runner. He doesn't have elite arm strength, but a WCO doesn't really depend on that and he does do well on off schedule throws.

It’s funny when you compare different sites how drastically different their rankings can be. One site may have player x ranked as the 37th best prospect overall while another site will have that same player ranked 145th.

I’ve watched a lot of Hurts I wouldn’t say his accuracy is ok it’s bad really bad honestly. Lot of that could be footwork related and he is working on that but he needs to make MASSIVE strides in his ability to make reads and his accuracy/ball placement of this is the offense Siri wants

I know,it's tough to make a mock. Worse this year since the mockers got to see little and have to rely on 2019 film for those who opted out and this year pro day, that's all they get lol

Seems Hurts big bash was he was a 1 read and run QB. That's not gonna cut it at the NFL level. His accuracy falls(it seems) when he has to make a second read and a decision, and once again that's not gonna cut it. So we will see if Hurts has the tools to even make it in the NFL

Thats not what I saw

Then why is he bashed about it?

All I can tell you is I saw him look at more than one receiver in the plays that he could.

Could be there was no time(here),but these are from his college days

SO, perhaps he is learning. IDK, but we're going to find out this year

It’s so hard to make any kind of evaluation on Hurts (or anyone else on the roster for that matter) considering the flustercluck this team as a whole was last year including the coaching staff.  Me personally I am giving them all a blank slate (even JJAW :o) and am in wait-and-see mode to see how they all do under this new coaching staff and in the new schemes on offense and defense.  I honestly have zero expectations.

Best attitude to have. Right now, I just want a youth injection of players that are "keepers". Gotta have solid building blocks

Ditto!

Pressure on the WRs and QB... Short patterns should help the guys get open quicker in theory I think can look like NE with Brady. But accuracy and ball placement are HUGE. You throw the ball slightly behind the WR or make him have to slow down or stop to catch a ball that could be the difference between 1-3 yard catch vs a 15 yard gain if he caught it in stride.

Not impossible but all parties have to vastly improve if this is what we want to do

If I'm playing CB, I want the other team to keep throwing short.  Much easier to cover someone for less time and distance.   New England and Brady good at it, but also had the quick short WR that can open in a phonebooth... Welker, Edlemen etc.  Idk if any of our guys can do that.

Magic, or I follow guys on the internet who break down tape and show our receivers running routes that are likely to be featured in our new offense.

And do you show any of these WRs getting open on these routes vs NFL level coverage?

This part I think will be easy for Hurts.   One read is easy,  having to go through the progression of the route tree during a play is much more difficult.   "One , two , throw it..."   but who is open?  We shall see.

I expect,  " mesh point, first read and run if that guy isn't open."   A college offense for Hurts this year.

I would like to see him at least do 2 checkdowns before he runs. Of course we need an O line to give him that time. I would opt for WR's described as "twitchy". Those are the Welkers and Edelmans. Which is why I have replaced my round 2 pick with Moore as opposed to Marshall. He seems more "twitchy". Tougher to get the timing down with those WR's, but if you can, it's very effective. Those are the clutch guys you need. We used to have one in Avant

We'll need more from him if we want any chance at future success.  Hopefully he can be coached up to be more of an all around QB (and further hopefully he can execute what he is taught).

That is a bad way to draft also. You draft the best players and scheme around their strengths. Patriots do this all the time. To narrow your board because a player does not fit our scheme will set your team up to fail IMO.... Just look at Swartz. He made the players play his scheme even though they obviously were better suited to another. One reason we could never get good CB play. Yet these Safeties and CB's move to another team and are successful....

Seems to me Howie was just making picks that HE felt were good football players disregarding any input from the scouts or the coaches.  Maybe he got some nudging from Lurie on some of those picks that were head-scratchers (JJAW) ... I see no reason to not believe those reports that stated such.

In order for this whole thing to work to it's best, they all need to work together and be on the same page like you see with Seattle or NO.  Can't have the GM with the law degree thinking he is smarter than everyone else and ignoring input from the "football guys".
