Since 2000, 3. Evans was #7 for TB.  Thomas was #22 for Denver and Holmes was #25 for Pitt. So only 1 team won a SB since 2000 drafting a WR in the top 20. This lends to Joe's argument that drafting a WR in the top of Round 1 does not translate to winning a SB.... Just food for thought.

To me it's coincidence... it says the teams who didn't win simply failed to finish the puzzle.

But to the Eagles with the analytics... yeah, I can see them using this as an argument not to draft a WR.  Especially since they did it last year.  They would look further into the idea of going back to back at WR.   Sorry, I just don't see it. Not from the Eagles.

Btw...  where was the Superbowl champion... Nelson Agholor drafted?  I think you forgot him in this analysis.

Yeah Horn/Surtain and Marshall is fine. If Smith goes to the gnats, there is no reason to reach for a WR. Joe could be right and we go line. I am clueless, especially with Howie as captain of the Titanic

But at least the band will continue playing as the ship sinks.     Listen closely,  you can almost hear the violins... lol

That success has yielded one SB victory... It isn't exactly the staple for success is it?

Agree 100%  because I believe they go overboard on this, to the point where backups are more important on the lines than good starting WRs.

But with that said,  we are talking what we think they will do, not what we prefer.  But to be honest, if they go lineman, it's a sign they understand they are far away.  Take the boring building block type of piece.   If they go WR, tells me they are going for flash... trying to be like Dallas, all offense and no defense. Which to me, it's the main reason I think the team will struggle for a while, that the defense is getting old. Especially the DL.  I don't think people understand the value of what Graham and Cox bring. Without them, it's going to go backwards unless we can replace them.

Yep, 1 - Pick 20. Nice catch Joe! Also just saw he's been picked up by NE. When did that happen. Had to have been recent.

Btw.. they would argue that prioritizing the lines has kept them competitive.   Or really avoiding the long term bad play.   That's how they have been spinning it for 25 years.

At the start of free agency New England picked up Agholor

Big time! Without Cox and Graham this DL would fizzle. Need some core pieces on the DL pronto.

A hypothetical.

Greg Richards on Twitter: "Hypothetical: At 12, top two CBs and Waddle are off the board. DeVonta Smith available. Ravens call and offer 27 and 31 for 12." / Twitter

The Ravens will be somewhat desperate for OT help after trading Brown, and it is doubtful that a day 1 starter will be there at 27. Slater and Sewell might be off the board, but Vera Tucker played right guard and left tackle, so he could probably play RT without issue.

I would probably make this trade. Another hypothetical? 27 and 31 for Mailata. I would probably do that trade as well.

It could be an interesting few weeks.

I do Both trades without blinking.   Especially Mailata.  Howie can spin that one..   two 7th round picks turn into two 1st round picks 3 years later.

We could lose him in free agency anyway.

At that point,  we could definitely look to move back up a little if the right DL is available.

But I don't think Baltimore would make that trade.  They draft well,  they would value the picks too much.

Once again there was only a need to draft 1. We had (supposedly) Djax and Alshon as starters. They are gone and we are basically left with last years round 1 who has flatlined to date and a group of PS WR's. Fulgham/Ward may be ok, but we are hardly "set" at WR

IDK I look at D linemen and I tend to look past the hyped round 1's. I like the guys that maybe didn't get the breaks they wanted. Those guys with chips on their shoulders with something to prove. The round 2,3,4 guys. They play harder and they have a attitude and they are ready to take that anxiety out on opposing O lines. I still like Mailata. Maybe he gets beat out for the start, but I saw him toss 300 pound lineman 5 yards downfield. I would keep him just to stick him in for the intimidation(Mongo) factor. I would still have 1 play for him as a FB/ tackle eligible,  just to let him clock some guys and put a smile on his face(back to your rugby roots, see "the fridge"). You know whats coming. Stopping it is something else altogether. I think with a 3 yard head of steam, he would make a nice hole in a D line 😆

I'm the opposite.  I look around the league and even our team.... I like the round 1 DL for sure.    I also look around the league, and I like the WRs that get drafted later with a chip on their shoulders.   The Davante Adams, Stefan Diggs, Tyreke Hill, Dk Metcalfe, Keenan Allen.... the way Antonio Brown was early on.   There is a lot of technique involved, and you see guys come in hungry and really come out of nowhere to be top guys at the position.   Usually the guys like Aaron Donald, Khalil Mack, Cox, Graham etc... those guys go pretty early for a reason, while their is absolutely the factor of technique, those guys usually have special physical gifts that get them drafted early and that can be used to physically beat the other guy on almost every play.

Hey couch....the NFL will probably have an expansion team across the pond before too long. What are the thoughts about that over there? I know NFL Europe died on the vine. I think it would be a logistical disaster, but money rules lol

The appetite for watching live NFL games remains unquenchable over here. The games invariably sell out very quickly, and there appears to be ever-growing awareness of the NFL amongst the general public.

I got into it myself back in the late -1980s. Back then we had only a weekly TV highlights show, which was aired on the Sunday after the matches had been played, i.e. just an hour or so before the next set of fixtures were kicking off. LOL! Thank goodness I somehow stumbled upon a very crackly Medium Wave radio station called Armed Forces Radio Network, which I believe transmitted out of Germany.

They broadcasted live commentaries/score updates every Sunday evening (the reception was very hit and miss, and always seemed to fade out at a critical time in the match!), and I was quickly hooked. Lots of very late Sunday nights, and bleary-eyed commutes to work on Monday mornings. There was also a weekly newspaper and a monthly magazine I could subscribe to, and one month in particular they previewed something called the Draft, which I had never heard of, but seemed an equitable way of helping the poorer teams to improve. Safe to say, it further piqued my burgeoning NFL interest.

Back to the TV show, and one week they ran a special feature on a couple of guys by the name of Randall Cunningham and Reggie White, who were hoping to make a team called the Philadelphia Eagles competitive and relevant again! Back then, pretty much all the coverage/hype was on centred on the Raiders/Cowboys/Dolphins/49rs/Bears/Giants/R-words, and I think I was looking for more of a 'dark horse/underdog' team to pledge my allegiance to.

Also, I am a keen gambler, and having watched the TV feature and been suitably impressed by the cut of Messrs White & Cunningham's jib, I took odds of 66-1 on my new-found team winning the Superbowl. Well, I got a tremendous run for my money, all the way to the damned Fog Bowl, a game I still maintain the Eagles would have won under normal weather conditions. To be fair, I reckon Bill Walsh's 49rs in Candlestick Park would have been a bridge too far in the NFC Championship the following week, but like I say, it was a hell of a ride, and the rest is history!

These days, we get exceptional TV coverage via Sky Sports. There are daily showings of Good Morning Football and Pro-Football Talk, multiple weekly live games during the season, plus the phenomenon that is NFL Red Zone. One of the channels is often re-titled Sky Sports NFL, and this week it will feature live coverage of the Draft.  All in all, we are spoilt rotten, and long may it continue.

So, back to your point (!), yes, the logistics of an Expansion team in London would be a nightmare, especially in a post-COVID world, but the interest and demand for it is definitely there. Personally, I'd prefer things to stay as they are, but then again, I'm just a boring old fart who is resistant to change......GET OFF MY LAWN!

Wonder what the cowboys do if Surtain and Horn are off the board already?

If Slater is there they should take him.

We got a tater! Welcome Couch Potato. Takes a while to get back to you, was one of those mornings that not many over here were up at 6 am.

Haven't watched in a while, but streaming Sky Sports was one of my go to's for out of coverage games a few yrs ago. I still go there for tennis when it's available, other sports as well. Especially liked they didn't force a commercial in every available spot, instead they'd go to the studio and discuss the game or break down plays. During tennis matches they don't run at the mouth.

Now if the Brits would only learn to make fish and chips not so greasy!

I invented DIRT!!!. I suppose the NFL will look into teleportation so they can place teams across the pond without the logistics. If there is money to be made, they are unstoppable lol

SO Dullaz has a hard on for Pitts too now

Only 5 more days until the draft...
