I would rather not sign an expensive WR because his career will end here. I would rather sign a guy like Dede Westbrook, who can be had very cheap if his medicals look ok. AKA no big bucks until I know what I have on this team. He is only 28 and not a huge cost, but could be a reliable target and could be used in a variety of offensive schemes

I agree on not wanting to add an expensive vet.  I’d take it a step further and say I don’t want to add ANY vet ... I’d sooner watch the young guys we have on the roster now (and any we add Thursday through Saturday) grow with Hurts (or any other QB we add either this year or next).  So to me no to OBJ, no to Jones, no to Westbrook.

Isn’t ODB a Z and slot WR? That would be another reason. Slot is cool....but am thinking of Reagor as our Z. Figure Reagor can play slot also. He doesn’t seem like the fastest learner though. Kind of really need him to just learn one spot in this new offense. Maybe add in a few additional special plays for him around the line of scrimmage also. Kind of why Siri was talking about the X position and DeVonte Smith. I’d think we would want a X. Kind of force Fulgham into a backup role.

Tough balance. We need to clear cap room the next two seasons. But an experienced guy in the WR room could benefit the youngins. That’s why I thought Golladay could have been a very good addition. He plays X and slot. Has a very well rounded route tree. But it looks like we’ll have to rely on the coaches more than the experienced vet mentor.

I would add Westbrook for 6-700k. He's on the mend, but could be solid in the slot and even if he goes out, no real loss at that price. Even be a nice BU for reagor

How about we find receivers who can catch from any spot? That would be a start eh?

Right..  for me the alphabet doesn't matter yet at this stage either.   I just need to get young guys in and let them play.

Westbrook is dirt cheap at the moment. Could play slot or used out of the gun ,on screens. For under a mil, I see no reason not to do it. Worst that happens is you got a round 1 WR in your WR room teaching the other guys and may even speed up any new draftee we acquire. At best, you got a super slot guy who can also play anywhere on the field and produce some solid stats. For 6-700k I don't see any downside

Agreed,it's not like we are fine tuning for a SB run here

Doesn’t always work that way. The X has to be at the line of scrimmage. So that’s usually a bigger guy that can break through the press at the line of scrimmage. The slot and Z can be off the line with a free release.

Difference, the first 2 are multi million dollar investments. Westbrook is under a mil easy

We have no WR's no matter what letter you place on them

Last season we had the traditional Z and X on the team. DJax is a great Z Wr version...you know back before he was old. Alshon was a great pro type X....you know also....before he got old.

100%  these guys played last year , so at this point I don't need anything from anyone else.  The coaches specialize in teaching WRs.   They have a nice blank canvas .   I'm not touching WR until this group plays another year together.

Ham brings up the valid point, but it's my thinking next year.  See what we have for real... then you can fill in  X,Y,Z  for all we know we may have X.... maybe Y.... could be Z.    Or Z and X..    or Y and X.... or Z and Y.     Or none!    Let's go one step at a time and see what we have first.

F at the moment.. or " I " for incomplete.

So 1+1=2 -2= 0 Yep thats where we are lol

True, but we DO need to pick up the potential talent level. other than Reagor these are PS/late pick guys. Maybe they can do it IDK,but should not stop me from getting better talent in here

OK so Jjaw was not a late pick, but he plays like one lol

I’d say Reagor is an obvious Z that can play the slot. Watkins could be a Z or slot. Hightower was used in the slot. Could see him at Z. Not sure about him at X. Fulgham is an X. Hence this whole discussion by Siri about the X. Our obvious need spot. They basically were trying to break down whether the top WR this past season DeVonte could play the X being 166 pounds(soaking wet). Feels like why Smith maybe is falling some and not going in the top ten. It’s a legit concern whether a 166 pound guy can break free off the line on the NFL. The guy obviously showed marvelously all season. So the ‘alphabet’ is what the football guys are concerned with. You know when you are actually projecting whether a guy will be successful on the next level.

Welp we have Hurts yet too,and WR's take a year or 2 to really get going(for the most part unless they are on a great team), so my thinking is go ahead and add some better talent and let them take their knocks this year while it doesn't matter. if we go for a top QB next year, they will have a year in

So you guys don’t care if you go Reagor(a Z) in the first and grab another Z early this season?

IMO nothing is "obvious" Sure you can get guys for whatever you want/need. That doesn't make them perform. What is "obvious" to me is we lack talent at WR, pretty much across the board. Some guys with less talent will over achieve which was what we saw last year, but other than Reagor these are not super talents. Reagor needs to show me something and so does Jjaw or once again we will be shooting for bronze as usual unless Fulgham becomes Amari Cooper this year

I want a reliable guy who gets open (well we need 3 of those lol) and frankly last years performance was a stunning fail,so I would say X,Y,Z are all up for grabs

Reagor was under 400 yards last year(396 to be exact),so that is "irreplaceable"???? (that equates to 24.75 yards per game). Sure,I will let him compete. Am I locking him in? You can, but I won't

This team lacks talent pretty much everywhere across the board. So yeah....the last thing I’m thinking is we need a top pick Z. We need a youth injection in this team. Why would we take back to back players high that would have to share playing time? Makes very little sense to me. I’m completely ‘all in’ on developing Reagor. Feel like we have good young slot options also. Fulgham at X is our WR concern. He’s the one I’m not saying is irreplaceable. Maybe he can...maybe not. If I’m getting a guy high at WR in this draft it’s unquestionably got to be a guy they feel can play X. Siri it’s presumed by most likes the 12 personnel a good amount. That’s two TEs and two WR. You going to bench Reagor or our high pick this year consistently? Just doesn’t make sense To Me. I’m not drafting a replacement for our first round pick last year early this year.

So we’ll have to agree to TOTALLY disagree on this point

You find out who starts in camp, to hell with shared playing time. The other guy becomes the BU and you can cut the rest if you want. I'm not coddling another WR like we always do/did. WIN the starting job or be the BU. We have a clean slate, everyone needs to be put on notice that you need to perform or you go and I dont care what round we got you in (see Jjaw). Assuming Reagor is automatically the best player we can find in the slot is really a DUMB move. I will let him compete like every other position on this roster in a rebuild year
