When I’ve been looking at this draft and what I think our FO will do I’ve looked at what this team tends to value the most and that is 3 positions. They are both lines and QB. Doesn’t mean I have to like the picks but one of those 3 positions does seem most likely to me

If New England trades in front of us for QB #4.  And QB #5 is there at 12.    Could be Washington and Chicago looking to move up?

I think we trade up I say to 7 or 9

So logic there.... what do you think it takes to move up?

Out of those 4 players you listed I’d go Slater. But think Slater is the best player.

Slater is definitely the best prospect available at that pick. And in a vacuum you should take the best player. But if you look at our team, there is almost no way Slater starts at LT as a rookie, and he may not even be able to win the backup LT job. As far as Paye, does he automatically start over Barnett or Sweat?

Newsome may be a lower level prospect, but at least he starts day 1. And there is a chance he is a better pro than Slater or Paye. So you get the benefit of a day 1 starter with the kicker that he has the measurables to be a high level player.

In this case, to me, the juice of the slight reach is worth the squeeze of getting a day 1 starter.

As an aside, I wouldn't take a wr like Bateman or Toney that high since our existing wrs are better than our existing CB2s and a WR can be the fifth option on the offense, while the CB2 can be a fatal flaw on a defense.

I don't think they worry about day 1 starter.    Paye has value in the fact that Barnett and Sweat are not under contract past this year.

Their history shows,  they like getting the DL that will start in a rotation.  They value the position more.

Really Graham over Earl Thomas pretty much is the best example.

See the Pats moving up and the Gnats trading back with them

Idk... for some reason I am thinking New England and Carolina

Im sure they will need to gauge where the QB's come off the board. I don;t think they can wait any longer, much the situation Carolina was in before the Darnold deal

Stine, let's take a step back and think.

We agree the team isn't good?  Or do you think it was only Wentz?   If the team isn't good, how can you judge Hurts fairly?

Then after he plays one year on this not very good team, you want to use all the picks you worked to get for another QB.  But maybe that guy will compete with Hurts?    If use all that ammo to move up, that guy needs to be the man, no doubt about it.

For me,  I can see the Eagles pick between 12-16.  The Dolphins pick late teens.  Indy probably mid to late 20s.

I'm using our pick, looking to trade one of the other 2 for a player... similar to Diggs, Cooper, Ramsey or Fitzpatrick.  The other pick we could trade back and get more assets.

I'm thinking it gives Hurts a more legit shot to succeed in 2022, if not, we still have assets to get a QB. But by then the team should have more young pieces in place.

To simply evaluate Hurts this year and then give up everything to move up in 2022 just doesn't seem like a smart way to use the assets.   Like a rush job.

But I guess if people want Howie fired, investing all that ammo in a new QB who won't have much to work with is probably a good way to do it.

Well, it depends allot on how he plays next year too. If he just flat out stinks up the joint I would think another year won't help. If we have a similar situation to the last one where he loses half the line and WR's due to injury it is another matter. I would think the coaches would know if he needs another year for a fair evaluation in any event....

I think some team has their eye on Trask in 2 as a developmental qb

I will be watching Howell next college season. If he shines again, I think we go there in '22 unless Hurts balls out.

If he stinks, then we won't need to use all the ammo to move up.   I'm just trying to get away from the idea that we just give up all these picks for a QB. I don't think it's smart, a QB can't win on his own.

I think there is a massive chance Slater starts day one as a rookie. Who beats him Mailata?? He wasn’t that great to think he would win IMO.
As for Paye does he get on the field is my question starting doesn’t concern me much on the DL it comes down to the rotation and our plans with it.

I agree there. I would hope we use no less then 2 #1 picks for any QB next year if that is what they want

Possible, but I think they will want to give Darnold a fighting chance and go OT. Despite being less than stellar,Carolina is still a better team than the Jets. They need to give their new investment a chance. I think they stay and take OT or WR(Carolina)

Both Graham and Thomas made pro bowls. So you could say either pick was fine. But we struggled at safety for years after that draft.

Mailata had a better pff rating in his first full season than Tunsil, who was the last slam dunk LT prospect. There are concerns about whether or not Slater will even be able to play LT in the NFL.

I think we will see a boatload of trades.MUCH more than usual. Should be fin to watch how much desperate teams give up

He has played every O line spot. Although I would take a DL guy, if we went with him, could easily see him in OG  rotation /BU and as Kelces future replacement, although IDK how MUCH experience he has at OC

I don't want to use 2 ... it's too much

They could get decent return, I think they make the trade.   The OT at 15 vs the OT at 7...plus the other assets.  I could see them doing it. And I could see them going elsewhere other than OT.

Less then what we gained to move back

Welp Carolina is sitting pretty as far as a top WR choice. IDK that they'd want to give that up. Looking at Waddle or Smith there I would think. Gnats can still get a nice OT at 15(like Darrisaw), so I believe that is where the Pats look first

Ahh... so your idea is them looking it at it like... " from the start we gained value and still were able to take a QB"

I think if they trade up it's for a QB.  We agree there.   I just don't see it , giving up 2 or more prospects,  including the DL prospect to get a guy to " compete" with Hurts.

But I do think it will speed up Howie getting fired.
