Maybe they go LB in round 2? Interesting to see what they do. Defense is the obvious play and they could go Edge, LB or CB. To me CB is their biggest need, so I would do what I have to to get the player they have on top of their board. Maybe trade away next year's 4th or this year's 5th to do it... Just my opinion...  We need the 3rd and 4th round picks this year to add bodies....

Yes Samuel Jr or Campbell would be my top choices at 37.  Some other options that I think are really good players like JOK and Moehrig but I just don't see us going either position this high.  Plus CB is our biggest need IMO.  Probably a DE in round 3 but who knows depends on how board shakes out.  Basham could be there.  He kinda reminds me of Curry coming out in 2012.  But the 2 Pitt DEs seem more realistic to be there - Basham probably goes between our 2nd and 3rd.

Mike Klis on Twitter: "Broncos had trade-back calls from Saints at No. 28 (too far back), Bears at No. 20, Eagles at No. 12 per source. But Patrick Surtain II was the player George Paton had targeted. Paton no doubt has some Mike Zimmer influence when it comes to corners. Can't have enough. #9sports" / Twitter

You couldn't be more wrong. The Bears were calling people to trade up, including the Cowboys. If anything, you should be critical of their front office. Maybe stop crapping on the Eagles for a second to acknowledge they had a good day.

Again... pat attention to my whole post, not just what you want to counter.

I didn't say 100% that the Bears didn't make Dallas the offer.   What I said was that I have a hard time believing that pick 84 was the sole reason for Dallas taking our trade if indeed they had an offer for the Bears.   I believe it the factor was that they wanted Parsons.

Basically you think Dallas valued things like this...

1.  Parsons and pick 84

2. Bears offer

3. Taking Parsons at 10.

To me I don't think pick 84 is that big to where it makes the difference.  They either wanted Parsons or not.  Be crazy to turn down the Bears offer simply because pick 84 puts it over the top.   But you seem to think so, we disagree on this.

On the one hand you are saying pick 84 isn't big enough to make a difference. On the other, you are being highly critical of the trade because we gave up pick 84.

Which is it?

My gut feeling is that you had a kneejerk reaction to the trade because you failed to understand the bigger picture and have spent the last day just digging in instead of admitting your initial reaction was wrong.

You are worried more about the division not sucking than us improving. I thought you used to preach about how a better division was good and prepared us for wining it all.

Oh wait....you were just ****ing about how bad the division is ten posts ago.

Ok... so it's a good thing to have the other teams in our division make better long term moves than us?

Btw... sarcasm...  I don't think the division is bad anymore. .. the Eagles will be the only sub 500 team IMO.

But you are happy like a pig in $hit simply because Pitts and Chase didn't fall to 6...lol.  Now Howie is a genius again. Lol

The only bad thing about this pick is fans have nothing to complain about.

If they really wanted Smith they had to make a trade up because it appears the Giants were ready to pick him.

Now i wanna see them go D. Anywhere on the D. Just take the BPA

Pick 200 means nothing.   Should we give it to Dallas for no reason?

2 different things.

I know you have to defend everything Eagles... like an adorable 7 year old.   But why can't you have a real conversation?

Do you think pick 84 was the reason Dallas passed on the Bears offer?  Or did they just want Parsons the whole time?  Very easy question?

I was not on board with Smith, However, I think the Eagles did a great Job if Smith was who they had on their radar! Everyone is saying it cost them too much to grab him and lose a 3rd rounder to Dallas. I say, last year Howie would have drafted him at 6 and everyone would have been happy once Chase and Pitts were off the board.

  So, let's think about this:

Eagles get the player they wanted, plus a 1st next year, but lose a 3rd round pick.... I think that is awesome! So how many people would be pissed trading a 3rd rounder this year for a 1st next? I read up a little on Parsons and it seems many took him off their board for personal issues? Eagles do not draft LB's in the first round, so they were not about to draft Parsons....

Now, the question is: What CB is available in round 2? IF not a CB, what LB is available?

It appears that Howie is depending on the Scouts for a change, which is refreshing..... I think that was a great job by Howie. Giants are pissed big time and Yes, they would not have traded back if Smith was there. That was who they wanted from the start.

Yeah... Giants are pissed getting a pick in the teens next year...lol

A real conversation?

Your first take was that the Giants weren't going to take Smith.

Your second take was that the Cowboys weren't offered the Bears trade.

Now you are on your third hill you are prepared to die on, which was that there was no way the Cowboys would have traded with the Bears had we not traded with them.

Well, we will never know, will we? But you have accepted it as a fact, so you have to frame the argument from that perspective, because you have been completely wrong about everything else.

And, ultimately, it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that they could have made the trade. Thus the Eagles took the safe route in making sure they got the player they wanted for the price of a late third round pick. What could possibly be wrong with that? Your arguments that it was horrible because there was no way it could go wrong is ridiculous. It could have gone horribly wrong. But it didn't because the Eagles did the smart thing, and now you are just defending a bad decision because you don;t want to admit you were wrong about something.

Just give it up and move on. The team you allegedly like did a good thing on draft night. Savor the moment.

Samuel Jr or Tyson Campbell today would make me very happy.

I'm leaning more towards Campbell if I'm honest. Though that said there's so much talent at other positions too...

JOK, Bolton, Samuel, Campbell or Moehrig would all be fine to me. Basham is another name.

It seems likely we will add a solid player at a position of need. Barmore might be tough to pass on. He has character issues, but he is a top 15 talent.

So can't answer the simple question?  Which is a real conversation.

I'll try one more time...  do you think pick 84 was the difference in Dallas turning down a possible Bears trade?   Or did they just want Parsons?

Not hard to give an answer is it?   Like an adult conversation?

Giants would absolutely rather have Smith. You know that no pick is Guaranteed. How are you certain that pick will be in the teens? You can see into the future? What happens if Chicago makes the play-offs? Their Defense is good. Only problem was QB and they may have resolved this....

Seems you and BG are the only two that think this is a big mistake. Why? Because your predictions were wrong? LOL

I like Samuel Pick more, but feeling here is he will be off the board before 37....

Not worried about my predictions. Just looking at the results and how things played out.    It doesn't matter to me what teams want or wanted to do... sometimes the results for them are better when they don't get what they want.    And you could be right... the rookie QB could push the Bears over the edge here.  Idk, I can tell you they put up a lot of points with Tribusky.  Foles was really the QB when their O struggled.   Will be interesting to see 2021 season.  Can't get here soon enough!

This Koramoah's intrigueing as well, line him up at S, Nickel, LB

Probably be one of the first 2-3 picks off the board tonight.  But yeah would be a solid addition for sure.

There is no way to know, and it is irrelevant. Do you want me to guess? My guess is that the Cowboys were always going to trade down once Surtain and Horn were off the board, and if it wasn't with us, it would have been with the Bears. I don't think there was any way the Cowboys would have drafted Parsons with trade offers coming in for Fields had we not acted.

This is how I see it- The Eagles need to see if Hurts can be their QB of the future. How do they do that? Protect him and give him weapons. So, what better way to help this evaluation process then to give him a WR that he is comfortable with? So, you are eyeing Smith and possibly another WR (Waddle?) as your pick at 6. You think that one will be here if they trade back, so they grab a first round pick and wait. Now, Pitts, Chase and Waddle all go before they pick. They are fairly certain the Giants want Smith. So they trade up using a 3rd rounder! Wonderful Job by Howie! I cannot believe I am saying that, but to gain a 1st round pick while only losing a 3rd and still get one of the top 3 players they were aiming for is a job well done.

Now, they still need a RB but I feel that can wait for round 3 or 4. They also need depth on the O-Line, but they probably can grab a couple in the later rounds that they can groom for a year or two. All know that they are going no where this year. So at least find out who you have at QB......

IF Hurts is the QB of the future, you now have possibly 3 1st round picks next year to grab D-Line, O-Line and other pressing needs... Who can argue with that?

We also got a fourth in addition to next year’s first. So we essentially moved back from the late third to the fourth and gained a first next year.

There you go ...    wasn't hard to answer was it?   So you think pick 84 pushed Dallas away from taking a potential Bears offer.    We can disagree on that.  We will never know, we will never know a lot of things, but this is what is fun in speculating about sports.

We gave up our 5th for that 4th.
