Idk how you come to this logic?    Months of reps , how does one player prevent another from developing?   I thought competition is good?   The last few years , we have seen injuries to RBs and we have suffered because of it.  Having to pass too often.   To claim a dude off waivers to come in and compete, with zero financial commitment...  yet there is a problem?

Joe you keep harping on"don't worry about this year, let's see what we have".Welp your not gonna see what you have if the young guys don't take any GAME TIME snaps. If they want to bring in 50 guys with no guarantees, thats fine, but you won't find out "what you have" doing it(so that's the logic behind my statement)

So a 23 year old coming in to compete is no good?

There is a point now... where we just want to criticize... simply just to criticize.    I believe finding a negative in the situation of claiming Johnson off of waivers..  the insignificant move that it is in the big picture... pretty much signifies this mentality.

Regardless of any move, there is an element in our fan base that will search long and hard to where they can find a way to spin it as a negative.

F'getaboutit joemas - we all know facts don't matter ;)

Good post.  There really is no risk in having claimed him.  If he stays healthy and balls out it’s a great addition.  If he looks like crap during the summer we can cut him and owe him nothing.  Not a dime.

Nice deflection. Just shows what I have said all along. We can't develop anyone or why would we need to pick up FA's? IDC bring in 50 guys. Been criticizing this for years, stop acting like it's a brand new thing. I always preach about pipelines,so yeah I will continue to be a critic until we GET IT RIGHT.Or maybe I should be like you guys, grab the pom poms and say "OH we're comin'- SB babay!!!" OK try this- wow this was a FABULOUS MOVE. I hope we bring 20 other guys in. T.O. said he can still play- go get him and we're on our way!!! (52 snaps 181 yards 3 YPC), sounds like just the guy we needed- our RB's are UNLEASHED now. We got that missing link. Better? We picked up 2 FA RB's because like I said we can't develop a soul, but shake those pom poms boys!!!

If you don't criticize, you are reaching for the bronze(yet again) Kinda funny how Bellicheat takes no name RB's and makes them household names huh? Can't do that here I guess.Sorry I am asking too much lol.; I apologize for wanting more than mediocrity

Fingers crossed that player development is much better now under the new coaching staff.  And hopefully the way the players train under them helps reduce the injury frequency too.  If we fix those 2 areas with the purge of the old coaching staff we will be in a much better place.

I suggest you look at the history of Super Bowl winners.    The team that won the most in the 21st century.   How they used free agency.

This pipe dream that involves never signing free agents.... Do some research and tell us which team has accomplished the ultimate success and repeatedly did so without signing free agents?

When doing this research and seeing that it didn't happen.   Can we put this next to. ..  Mailata playing fullback in file # 86?

My hope also so we can stop this

Sure, no need to try new things here.Just stick with the same old same old. No need for a lineman to have fun. Especially one with a rugby background. We've been totally successful doing the same old same old,I should not rock the boat

That is the GOAL. It's one that won't be attained, but still that is the GOAL no? If you can possibly identify talented players that fit, bring me a FA that will make a difference instead of pretending to be busy to keep your job(OH sorry those may cost money lol)

Rather give this kid a chance

So why did we draft Gainwell????? And we have Howard as well??? Why not go get a decent CB?(oh here we go again with DUMBARSE moves) SMH as usual

They claimed him off waivers. He’s cheap. You put in a waiver and get that player released or not. You can’t make a player released fit a certain position. Really nothing special of an addition. A pass blocking RB.

Isn't that why we got Howard? Starting up with the bonehead moves to act like he is "doing something"(Hint: how about going out and finding a decent CB???)With all these RB bodies are we benching Sanders or are we just trying to keep his stats low,so we can re-sign him cheap for "lack of production"?

Bodies was right. Howard isn’t even going to make the team. Nothing says Johnson will either.

No matter, he's a rook he needs touches no???? SO I guess he wont get any now? Isn't that why we signed Howard? Guess "let the kids play": just went out the window

We are setting up for TC. Most haven’t even locked in a roster spot yet. You gotta wait until they trim everything down to an official 53. Then we can scrutinize.

Don't know if they don't try. Bring them in and let them battle it out, can't make the team better otherwise.

One of Schwartz's shortcomings was not using LB's properly. another area of our D that should benefit with the coaching change. Initially hardly blitzed at all, was glad when he started.

Schwartz didn’t want to have to blitz much. He was far from the JJ mentality. Plus....what LBs was he given? He ended up rocking it with a Canadien Footballer and an undrafted kid.

W/ JJ, O's never knew what was coming - neither did we! He disguised things so well - missed.

Who’s developing Sanders and Scott? Now we got Gainswell.

Mailata has to focus on his job first. It’s feels pretty now or never for him to be a T. I really don’t care about trying him out at other positions...for fun. This is his opportunity to earn a job. He hadn’t done that much before even.

He was so talented...and it was a fun defense.

It almost has to be. The injury stuff has been brutal. Not sure why the medical staff turned over after our SB anyway. Player development will obviously be on theupswing. We didn’t have much draft ammo the last few seasons. That is a factor. When you go to the playoffs and trade away picks for vets then you know the youth will take a hit. That’s exactly what happened. This year we had massive draft ammo being the sixth worst team in the league. So yes, I absolutely agree that player development is crucial. Really think that is what Siri’s job is. Bring in a massive youth infusion this year and next and let him begin developing . Seems like what he talks about is starting with fundamentals. So maybe he’s a good coach for this mission.

Schwartz was a little underrated on disguise. He didn’t do it blitzing so much. He more worked on it with coverage.
