I disagree it was a cheap signing Joe lmao 😂 tell me what was the avg. starting Lb salary then in 2016 bet it was more then Bradham

https://overthecap.com/position/linebacker/2016/

Here you go .... in 2016 ... 4 LBs had a cap hit of over $8 mil.

Bradham was #35 on the list in terms of cap hit

In terms of actual cash made .... 6 LBs actually made over $8 mil

Bradham was #27 in terms of cash made  ..... he was the highest paid LB on the Eagles, in front of Kendricks and Stephen Tulloch who they also signed that year.

IDK... I agree he wasn't expensive.    But getting paid the 27th highest in the league ... if all 32 teams ran a 4-3 ... that's 96 starting LBs.... to get paid the 27th highest isn't too cheap?

I don’t dispute we had good Lbs. But again looking at what we spent Kendricks is the outlier. Back in 2012 we spent a 2nd

2015 we spent a 3rd on Hick we also spent a 3rd on Taylor what’s the difference between the two one actually can play it’s not the capital we spent.

Bradham 3.5m a year Wilson making what around 3m what’s going to make the difference in these signing of Wilson can play.

Again point I’m making we haven’t address Lb differently from then till now it’s the success we had getting guys draft pick cheap FA vs recently

Again though... yes, slightly higher pick Kendricks... yes slightly higher  money Bradham.... yes same round with Hicks and Taylor.  But look at a little bit of difference in each , little more priority with each.... a big one was Hicks / Taylor to me.   Hicks was there to play ASAP... Taylor was a Mailata type move, trying to be the smartest person in the room.

The big thing, there was a plan at the position.  Weakside, middle, strong side.   2012, 2015,2016 ... they played for 2 years together...all 3... with 2015 and 2018 having at least 2 of them.  That's 4 years with fair stability at the position,  with 2 years of having the unit complete.

Before and since... it's always musical chairs at the position. Doesn't seem like any game plan.  It's why I said, year 1, let's see.    But it was definitely a part of the frustration the last 2 years.  And a prime example of doing things the same as they did prior to 2016.

Well, Cox and Graham being a year older hurts, also what everyone seems to forget is the other teams in our division will be better also. Dallas has stacked up on Defensive players in the draft and FA. Giants and Washington also added players. Did we do more? I guess that is the big question. Plus we have a big question mark for the coaching staff. We all have no clue how they will do. Just way too many questions and not enough answers for me. To assume we will win 7-9 games is optimistic when you take Hurts/New Coaches into account. Most likely it falls somewhere between our two projections. Like 6-7

I like the 6 to 9 range.  The Eagles have an easy schedule in terms of 2020 opponents and more importantly the travel.   That absolutely helps.   You gotta figure the freshness of a new regime and the older guys wanting to make a final push adds something.

The thing for me, after this year, that wears off, and the better players are a year older... and a bunch of guys could be headed to free agency.

In years past, we were a destination for free agents.  Now, idk that a guy like Goedert might just want to test the market and leave?   A lot could still go downhill fast.  Even with a 9 win season.

We will see. As far as FA, we signed Kerrigan. Not sure why he came here unless no one else wanted him. I find that hard to believe.

Don’t any more of less a destination for FA then 2016 right now. 22 lot could change depending on QB play if Hurts shows out good QBs can draw players to the team. 2017 Wentz was a draw for players guys wanted to play with him mainly Alshon.

He had other teams interested location might have played a part in it. But also they said he wanted to start which he likely can here or at least have a larger role. Why I think we could see him play that rush LB spot we seem to want

Minnesota and Washington were reported to want Kerrigan as well

We traded for a CB Josiah Scott lmao

Scott was a 4th rounder in 2020

  • PFF rated Hurts 2nd worst starting QB has lots to prove this year
  • Among qualified quarterbacks, Drew Lock led the NFL in bad throws (22.9%) and ranked last in on target throws (68.9%) last year. Hurts was significantly worse in those categories (26.7% and 60.7%).
  • Hurts completed just 52% of his attempts. For perspective on how low that number is, Drew Lock ranked last out of 35 qualified quarterbacks with a 57.3% completion percentage.
  • Hurts completed just 48.8% of his attempts on non-play action plays. (Interestingly, he had the NFL’s biggest completion percentage difference between play action and not with a 66.7% completion on the former.)
  • Hurts’ 7.2 yards per attempt was only tied for the 20th best mark.
  • Hurts’ 77.6 passer rating ranked only above Lock, Dwayne Haskins, Carson Wentz, and Sam Darnold.
  • Only six players fumbled more than Hurts last year despite the fact he played just 334 snaps (29.6%).
  • Hurts took the longest average time to throw at 3.39 seconds. Lamar Jackson was the second-longest at 3.17 seconds. With Hurts failing to get the ball out quick, PFF charted him for the second-highest percentage of pressures generated by defense charged to quarterbacks. This is to say he invited too much pressure.

Soooo biggest thing for Hurts is accuracy, getting the ball out of his hands and ball security

Going by what people been saying for Siri O Hurts seems like the complete opposite type of QB. Everyone says Siri O is quick throws, short accurate passing.

Josiah Scott from the Jags(CB) and we gave them a CB and a 6th? Anyone knows this guy?

4th rounder out of Michigan State in 2020... the 6th was in 2023 not super pressing. Seems like a young guy that hasn’t had much of a chance to play yet in the nfl

Undersized, decent speed. Struggled last year in limited opportunities. Not anyone to get excited about but might compete for the nickel job.

Despite his smaller frame (5-9, 185), he's a fearless run defender.

Who here is confident this team will be free of injuries this year? Based on past history, we can expect to have many to deal with. So, I guess the question is- Who can we least afford to lose? I get that most feel we can compete for this division, as we are fans and should expect as much. I am more of a realist. I see what has happened the past few years and expect this to continue until I see proof we are moving in a positive direction. Other than Slay, we have no proven CB's. LB's are weak. Safeties are unproven. D-Line should be solid if they remain healthy. O-Line I expect more of the same we have had the past few years. Question is who remains healthy? Can Sanders play the whole year. What will we get from our WR group? Ertz is probably gone so our TE group is weak.

Hmmm possibly use his speed on a CB blitz package? I love to see those, where the CB blitzes and the S drops into coverage. Would be an interesting look/wrinkle to an otherwise boring defense

We got some nice young guys in the draft. I hope they can learn a bit before any of our starters gets hurt. IDK that our TE group is weak. This was IMO why we got Grimes. Plays alot like Pitts, obviously not at that talent level, but he can be used like Pitts was. Goedert is solid and we have some others, but suspect Grimes comes into play as a TE or on an outside slant/curl. Should be some interesting wrinkles on offense we haven't seen before

Safeties are unproven??? We have McLeod and Harris two proven S. TE group really comes down to what we do with it Geodart is a good TE and few teams actually run multiple TEs so if we opt to go just 1 TE should be fine there.

As for injuries who knows what to expect we went years being one of the healthiest squads then we took a turn for the worse last couple years being one of the most oft injured.

Lots of unknowns with this team but lots of unknowns with lot of the teams we face this year as well.

I agree with 93(shocking) that Hurts getting the ball out and making his reads (more than ONE) will be the key to this offense. Hurts simply MUST speed up his checkdown and decision making process

if I was looking at our roster look this year this coming season not future needs.
DL/OL/RB/TE/S I think we are fairly good at

WR/CB/LB/QB- just a ton of unknowns these positions could swing either way good or bad

Besides the line, losing all those WR's really hurt. The PS guys stepped up,but they had limited talent,so now with Smith and Reagor, I hope those guys stay healthy. We are young at WR(finally) and we have no FA's coming in to this point(which is good). Adding Gainwell should help the running game and the screen game. Will be interested to see if Howard sticks

Let's remember this also. We keep talking Hurts. If he can't cut it, Flaaco is no slouch and he WILL get the ball out if that seems to be an issue
