You said you'd rather play Newman,so play him then

Did you read the entire post on when I said I would want to see Newman play???? Yes if it’s late season and we are knocked out of playoffs and Hurts has been terrible I would rather see Newman get a look over Flacco at that point

Game 4 ,Hurts sucks. Who do you put in and who cares how late in the season it is. If neither is better than Hurts may as well leave Hurts in. What does it matter if it's game 4 or game 12?

It matters a ton what game it is and how the team is playing. Do I think if Hurts sucks that Flacco likely gives us a better chance to win yes. So game 4 we are 2-2 even with a terrible Hurts I give Flacco a chance.

It’s game 12 and we are 1-11 and Hurts has been terrible I’d rather give the young guy a look in Newman

Why replace Hurts if Flacco is no better?

LOL, it is not so much about respect for the other teams, but the lack of respect for ours! Adding Kerrigan may boost us to 6 wins. You think that will compete with the other teams? I see your opinion is different that you feel we will win more and I respect that. My opinion is much less generous.

I’m not real high on this team....but what part of beating the cowboys, giants or football team seems so impossible? They all seem like 7-10 teams to me.

Disargree (imagine that)  Kerrigan is a high motor guy and great in the locker room. Like Graham.

If he can teach the young players to be professionals it's worth a 1 year contract.

Anyone know the contract terms?

Up to three and half mil

If you say so. I disagree. We have no Defensive backs to cover the WR's in our division. D-Line is a year older. LB's are weak. Offense depends mostly on Hurts. IF he can perform at a high level, we possibly can score 24-34 per game. I have doubts he will perform at a average level, let alone a high level. Not happy with our RB's after Sanders. I see 3-6 wins.

Our division isn’t the top QBs. Might be able to get away with James and Slay outside. Maddox, Wallace battle for slot and hybrid Dime looks. Harris and McLeod in the backend is potentially exciting. Throw the rook in there competing. If the job looks completely undermanned after TC gets well underway then probably look to pick up a guy after cutdown day. Always some cap casualties then. Plus we do always have trade options.

I disagree.  The average for a LBs is not even 8 to 10 mil now.   It wasn't a cheap signing at all, it was a smart signing for the specific player who played in the system.   Who came in to play with 2 LBs who were already starters.  And decent starters.

The LB position constantly changing from year to year... that's the before and after 2016-17.    We are we starting now in establishing 3 guys that can play....

1. At starter level

2. Fitting at all the positions

3.  With the idea they can build something together?

This is Omar Geather, the scrubby Matthews bro, Chris Gogong, Jamar Chaney type stuff.

I'm all for building on the lines and prioritizing certain spots, but in building the 2016-17 teams they filled our starters, which included LBs and both safety spots , then they went to get the depth.

It's year 1 here again, so we don't know the plan yet.  But I'm hoping they learned from doing it right the last time.  You can't suck in spots really badly while focusing on depth at other spots.  In 2017,you could argue that our CBs were the weak spot.   But they were young and hungry and fairly decent... and had above average players all around them at DL, LB and S.

I'm hoping they take similar approach going forward. You gotta get the LBs and S play back up, and decent play at CB before throwing money and picks at backup DL.   On offense, same thing.  Gotta get starters at every skill spot before focusing on 3rd string OL.  They had a nice core in 2016, got the missing pieces at WR and some depth on the lines and QB and were all set the following year. We aren't going anywhere until they take the same approach.

Got some quality S. McLeod and Harris are proven vets. Got some potential young guys that you just really need to develop one. Hopefully a hybrid high. Where do Wallace and Maddox fit? LB has a full room. Had a guy step up big time last season. Added a vet this offseason. Moved two guys to LB. had a third rounder drafted last season. Sixth rounder last season. Added this year’s draft. Oh and found a solid zone coverage run defender undrafted previously.

Really short one

So this group of LBs... or Bradham, Kendricks and Hicks at their 2016 ages?

The answer... if this, if this, then this, and this, what if this, could be this, might be that, which could lead to this, this guy did one thing ok, another guy did another thing ok

At Safety... Jenkins back in 2016-17 or Harris now?    McCloud back in 2016-17 or coming off the serious injury now.    DL I don't think it's close.  And I liked the decent group of CBs back then better, but that's mostly because my opinion of Slay isn't as high as other people here who make him out to be Dion Sanders.   An injury to Cox and this D could take a huge nose dive.

We will see. As far as FA, we signed Kerrigan. Not sure why he came here unless no one else wanted him. I find that hard to believe.

He should get some pass rushing snaps. Add to his career total. He’ll be a football team ring of honor guy...whatever they call it. He probably thinks he’ll get the call over Sweat on passing situations. Not so sure on that. Barnett and Milton can play the early downs at DE. Graham can obviously play all downs. So Kerrigan fits the third passing rushing DE role in my eyes.

Who here is confident this team will be free of injuries this year? Based on past history, we can expect to have many to deal with. So, I guess the question is- Who can we least afford to lose? I get that most feel we can compete for this division, as we are fans and should expect as much. I am more of a realist. I see what has happened the past few years and expect this to continue until I see proof we are moving in a positive direction. Other than Slay, we have no proven CB's. LB's are weak. Safeties are unproven. D-Line should be solid if they remain healthy. O-Line I expect more of the same we have had the past few years. Question is who remains healthy? Can Sanders play the whole year. What will we get from our WR group? Ertz is probably gone so our TE group is weak.

I could say Dline looks better than solid. LBs are a plenty. Let the coaches  sort through all this talent and potential. Singleton and Edwards can play. Definitely in zone coverages and against the run. Bradley from last seasons draft looks capable of similar. Brought in the vet Eric Wilson for his coverage ability. Got the two guys in the draft Jackson and JaCoby Stevens. Oh....and the third rounder from last year Taylor.

S? McLeod and Harris are proven. Have several young prospects to fight for backup and hybrid roles.

Sanders, Scott and Gainwell is a pretty good way to go. Probably keep a blocking bruiser back as a compliment.

Oline looks really good. Have Pro Bowl starters at three positions. A solid proven vet at another. Good competition with the last spot. Some really quality depth. Throw in the really early second round pick. Looks good.

If Ertz is indeed gone the TE group being lead by Goedert is mediocre. He should thrive. The depth might need help.

OK, let us see what happens this year. I personally feel that we are far from competing for this division. You think we are much closer if not already there. Maybe the Injuries do not happen for the first time in 5 years. Maybe the draft picks turn out to be solid starters. Maybe the Coaching staff turns out to be great. Maybe Hurts turns out to be the future for this team.

   Anything is possible.

Think it’s ok to just say this is is going to be an unknown. This team could be pretty good if everything swings there way or terrible if it swings the wrong way lol. 2021 is about figuring out we got is how I see it

Re: Trade talk ... Here are the teams tightest to the cap right now. 1) Saints $349K 2) Falcons $357K 3) Bears $1.07M 4) Packers $2.22M 5) Bills $3.76M 6) Bucs $3.90M 7) Titans $3.90M 😎 Giants $4.40M 9) Eagles $4.92M 10) Raiders $5.70M

So Eagles got little wiggle room with cap lol and more room coming I’d believe after June 1st. So will have some cap and time if we want to make a move

I mean the dude in Indy Kelly Moore was the same height and he had a good year with Gannon as his DB coach.

We'll add another $4M to the cap in 2 weeks from having used the post June 1 designations earlier when releasing Jeffery and MJackson.

Plus if Howie finally bites the bullet and trades Ertz for whatever we can get (or just cuts him) we'll add an additional $8.5M.

These FA"s we are picking up I hope are Siri's ideas as to who he wants to bring in and not Howie bargain shopping or at least I hope Siri has input/suggesstions

This is where vert leap comes in. Sometimes it's not how tall you are it's how HIGH you are (and I don't mean by smoking Linc turf)

Lmao how did I get quoted from an Ham post lol but yup Vert can help

NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein's analysis: "Affectionately nicknamed "The Gnat" by teammates for his pesky, persistent coverage talent and playing style. He has no issues checking athletic boxes with quick feet, smooth hips and explosive speed. He has above average recovery burst and athleticism, so he should be able to make the move to the slot despite limited reps there. He lacks play strength for matchups against size and will go ankle-biting in run support in order to avoid heavy collisions. He has ballhawking traits and coverage talent is not an issue. His ability to stay healthy and overcome his size/strength limitations could be the difference between being a starting nickel or solid backup."
