Not having a TC did not help. Someone posted on here he was playing with an injured thumb? If so, that could have been part of the problem also. Anyway, This year he will have had a full TC and he appears healthy. So if the coaching is adequate, he should be able to give us a decent indication if he can handle the role we expect him to. What we may not know is just how good/bad he is after one season. Middle of the road will muddy the waters. Do we let things ride in this case, or do we grab that elite QB as we have the ammo to do so.....

I'm hoping we have some semblance of a running game and STICK WITH IT. Ped far too often abandoned it(even when we weren't being blown out) and with a shaky O line your going for it on 4th and 4? Oh please. Having at least a decent running game should take some pressure off Hurts. We got some talent there now(besides Sanders/Scott),so lets utilize it

If mailate is the guy he's gonna get paid. Same with Dillard. But if Dillard doesn't cut it and you let Mailata go just because a year of his rookie contract is in play you screw yourself in the long run.

Who ever wins the job in TC, so be it. I don't wanna hand the job to Dillard just because he has more time left on a rookie contract and especially just because he was a 1st round pick.

IMO this is a "put it up or get out" year for him. If he remains "average" I don't see us picking up his 5th year option. He can be a BU in his 4th year. For some reason I was never a fan. I like Mailata. It's not every day you see a lineman THROW a 300+ pound defense guy 5 yards downfield(and he did this multiple times) Intimidation baby!!!!

Watched that football movie Greater. Definitely would recommend! About a kid that wants to be an Arkansas OT.

See Lamar Jackson.. regular season vs playoffs. You get 95% of the answer about the running.

The 2nd half, means you can beat teams after the adjustments are made.  So it counts.

The arm thing is big issue for anyone watching without the rose colored glasses.  He showed a weak arm missing a few key throws running to his left.  Why is it an issue?  See Mike Vick after the Tuesday night loss to Minnesota , they blitzed a DB and forced him right,  that was the end of Mike Vick producing anything worthwhile.   If Hurts doesn't show the ability to produce in that situation,  that's the situation the defenses will put him in.  And the career will be short.

It's nice to be a 7 year old fan.... rah rah baby.   That doesn't do anything for reality.  We've seen this rodeo before, let's not sugarcoat it, there is a lot to overcome here with Hurts.   Clichés and " intangibles " aren't going to last.  He has got to show NFL level QB play, not just running.

Agree, just saw it Tuesday night,  excellent movie.

FYI, this was seven years into his career. So if they figure out how to stop Hurts in 2027, I think I am good with that.

How does it feel to get owned by a seven year old?

Kind of what they are saying about Dickerson

I heard not running the ball was not because of Doug. He was told to pass more from above. So why should we expect to see more running now? Siri will do what he is instructed to do also.

An O line full of Jon Runyons would be nice.

Yeah,I posted before that I hope they would take their damn noses out of the play by play decisions. DID they make these calls in the SB year too??? Or did they let Ped run the show that year?

Gotta hope the FO learns to let the coaches do there job and do what’s best for the team to win. Big key for Hurts will be the ground game using his legs and our stable of RBs.

See? I live rent free in y'all's head HAHAHA

So seen Lane saying there was a massive emphasis on the screen game with Siri. Which isn’t to shocking. But this leads me to thinking accuracy and placement will be key.. Great placed screen throw vs a poorly placed ball can easily be the difference between a 20 yard gain and a loss.

Blocking by WRs will be key in the screen game as well.

This O has some potential to be very good.

Yeah I heard the other day that the key for Hurts is going to be accuracy. I know that's rather obvious for any QB in the NFL but it is expected to be vital in the Sirianni offense. If Hurts can't be accurate then he's not going to last long with Sirianni. Accuracy and anticipation are the keys.

This is a video of the "good" Hurts.

Jalen Hurts Every Play | Weeks 13-15 - YouTube

We didn't run many screen passes, but he showed really good touch on the ones we did. Ball placement was fine, and he allowed runners to gain a lot of YAC.

Now, there are a number of times the "bad" Hurts showed up. He had a number of throws last year that were way off target, and it's an area he has to work on. But he doesn't have the typical "bad" qb traits, which is throwing into double coverage or consistently missing certain throws. If you look at his bad throws compared to, say, Drew Lock, it is pretty easy to see the difference between them.

The one good thing about him is that his running ability does two things. 1. It makes the defense more one dimensional. He will see a ton of zone coverage because they have to keep an eye on him.2. It makes checkdowns less important. So if the checkdown is a running back, that player can take off on a deeper route because Hurts running is pretty much the same thing. So while a defense can cover a checkdown easily against most teams, against Hurts you almost have to commit two players, one to the hot receiver and another to the qb.

The one negative (which really isn't a negative) is that this has an impact on his completion percentage, which is why it is somewhat of a useless stat with him. Checkdowns are high percentage throws. So if he is throwing less of them than other qbs, his completion percentage will reflect that. That's why the important stats for him are yards per attempt and total yards.

But did you miss last year when he couldn't do anything 2nd half of games and teams took away his running and made him go left?   This is what happened last year... he needs to make the adjustment now or we will see the same thing.    I guess just like Hurts, you owned the first half.   Lets live on the pop fly toss to Desean for a a few seasons.  I know its hard for your type of fan... but you have to look at the bad stuff too.  BTW, if Hurts is in the league and collecting a paycheck in 2027 ... even if he never plays, that's a win for him.  Doesn't do much for us, but that would be success for him.

He played three full games. In one of them (against the Cardinals) he had more yards in the second half (210) than he did in the first half (198). In another (against Dallas), he had 180 yards in the second half. So I don't get the "teams were able to stop him in the second half" narrative you are clinging to. But if by stopping him you mean "limited him to 180 yards of offense," which over a season would equate to 5,760 yards of offense, or about 500 more yards than Deshaun Watson, who led the league, or 1,000 more yards than Tom Brady, who won the Super Bowl, then I think I would be pretty happy with those results.

POINTS!   And look at the play.  Night and day!

They scored 81 points in Hurts 4 starts.     68 in the first half..... 13 in the second half.   This is what matters.   This is a concern, where teams figure him and shut him down.  Very key trend here.  It needs to change and reflects the biggest concern with Hurts.... " did teams figure him out as the games went along"????     IDK, but we've had discussions over the years about a lot of categories... yards, time of possession, turnovers, 3rd down conversions...etc.   which of these are the key stats, how often does the team winning these particular categories actually win the game?    The one category that remains 100% ... the team that scores the most points wins all the time.    So yards, TDs, INTs,...etc, that's all great for discussion... the points are ultimately the only numbers that matter.   For example.... 41-33.

Do they figure him out after a half though? I mean that's some poorly prepared teams if they need a half to adjust. Or is it as much that Doug just didn't do a good job calling plays?

I’ll go out on the limb here but watching Geodart play I really truly believe he can be one of if not the best TE in football.

We know the blocking ability, he has good hands and he can make guys miss and pickup extra yards after the catch something guys like Kelce and Kittle do. I’m really excited to see if Geodart can take the next step as the full time starter for us.
