Fair assessment BG. We just disagreed from which seasons to compare. Anyway, the big ? is still Hurts. No way you can compare him to Wentz regardless of which year you look at. The QB is the most important player on the team. So the comparison goes down the toilet from the start IMO... Hurts may prove me wrong, which is great.

WB to those from the soon to be defunct EMB. Closing boards has been going on throughout the league, ours being one of the last - guess the owners don't think we're worth it. That and we usually come to a better consensus on things!

Know someone from the OLD EMB of 17 years ago.... Rob. A school teacher....

Lives in Lancaster, PA

Joe, I am simply comparing Ertz's 2017 Season to Goedert now. We have no way of knowing what Goedert will do this year. Based on Goedert's previous years Ertz(2017) was the better player. I am not trying to look at "fits". Yes Goedert is a better blocker. But he is not a better receiver. At least he has not yet proven that. He may well do so this year, but no one knows.

Right Ertz better route runner and hands.    He always fell down right after the catch.   Didn't matter with the team around him, we just needed the possession receiving from him.

The first and the team absolutely matter.   What is asked of the player absolutely matters.

Stats are stats...  they reflect the effects of the cause.    Why did Ertz go in  the crapper the last couple of years?  The supporting cast around him wasn't good, he drew the top coverage.

Goedert has a tougher road, he doesn't have the cast around him that will open it up for him to make the volume of catches that Ertz had.    But he does more with each catch and does more than just catching the ball.

It's apples and oranges.  Not simply Ertz in 2017 is better than Goedert now..  yet you admit Goedert does things better than Ertz.

Don't be trapped just looking at stats. There are always many outside factors why players get stats, it doesn't tell the whole story.    Can very easily be Goedert is already better than Ertz ever was, can also be he won't have the stats.  The TE unit in 2017 was excellent,  that is the difficult part to duplicate. Not just one player vs another.

I also don’t think this team is nearly as talented as 2017 but I do think some players on just as good if not better then some of the guys in 2017.

That's a big no on the first one. Huge no!

Joe I am not disagreeing with you about his YAC. However, he seems to always catch the ball when we needed a 1st down. In the SB he didn't just fall down. He made some really terrific plays that game. Whatever, We are looking at this from different angles. I made a simple statement. You are looking at this much more in depth. Just looking at Ertz from 2017 and Goedert now, who is better? Because we don't know enough about Goedert we have to take Ertz. Whom do we THINK will do better could be entirely different.

I would say the Reason Ertz had a terrible year was more than his supporting cast. Contract issues, he was hurt for a good part of the season and his best friend was having issues with the management and coaching staff.. This played a big part also, However, this was only one year. 2019 was not a bad year. 900 yards receiving? 100 catches I think. Wouldn't call that a bad year for any TE...

Ertz is a good TE he is a receiving threat and will go to a team and likely still produce quite well. He is completely different TE then Geodart though and it will come down to what you value at the position that could decide who you think is/was better when they both hang em up.

Not going to discredit Ertz was one of the best for many years in terms of being a pass catcher. But looking back Ertz first few years and Geodart first 3 years they are pretty equal.

Ertz in 2017 really started to flourish and take off we seen it. Question now is will Geodart be able to do the same things especially now that he should be the #1 TE.

If thing that could help Geodart as a receiver though is getting that other TE who can stay in and block. If the rookie UDFA can make the team and be that plus in-line blocking TE for us would then allow us to do different things with a Geodart more often.

Similar to Ertz having Celek early on then Geodart being able to stay in line let us flex Ertz around get him in the best matchups as a receiver

One of a million roster projections we will see between now and September.

Projecting Eagles’ 53-man roster following flurry of moves: How will cornerback shake out? Light on tight ends? - nj.com

On offense, he has - Hurts, Flacco, Newman, Sanders, Gainwell, Johnson, Scott, Goedert, Wilson, Reagor, Smith, Fulgham, Ward, Watkins, Grimes and Opeta as the 10th lineman.

He is high on Grimes, which is plausible if he shows a lot during camp. Wilson seems unlikely. He is a move TE, and that position can be played by Grimes or JJAW. I think the TE2 battle is between Stoll and Croom. Newman will have to pay really well to make the roster. otherwise I think he is safe on the PS. I wouldn't keep a fourth RB. Scott is okay, but we drafted Gainwell who does everything he does. I would save the QB3 and RB4 spots for the defense. He has Craven starting on PUP, which seems correct. Dickerson can't since he already took part in practices.

Defense - Dline is the usual suspects, with 10 guys making it, including Ridgeway, Jackson and Marlon. At LB, the obvious top five guys plus Stevens with Johnson, Avery and Ostman cut. He has nine DBs - Harris, Wallace, Epps and Arnold at safety, Slay, Maddox, Scott, McPhearson and James at corner. McLeod is on PUP.

As noted, I would save two spots on the offense and keep Johnson and Avery in the SAM roles on defense. I think Riley, Arnold and Jacquet are battling for a spot. I like Riley, but the bottom of the roster battles are pretty inconsequential.

Pick me! I know. Light on TEs.....Just wait for Jacksonville to cut Tebow. SUPER BOWL champs! Mic drop!

Some kind of interesting news from OTAs this week.

Mailata appears to be ahead of Dillard on the depth chart at LT right now. Obviously it's early days, but I think that is a pretty obvious decision. Dillard shouldn't be handed anything.

Maddox was practicing with the safeties. Another good decision. I think it's his best position, and the team should let him focus on it to see how good he can be. Plus, it is better to have a bigger nickel in cover 2 who can offer run support. One thing to note is that Jacoby Stevens can play the slot, especially in zone. So it's possible our base defense could look like Stevens in the slot, Wilson on the TE and Singleton on the RB, with Harris and Epps/McLeod as the deep safeties. Wallace and Elijah Riley are two other possibilities for the slot if we want bigger players there.

Reagor said he is playing the slot a lot. This makes me think Watkins may be moving up the depth chart, as he would be the natural replacement for Reagor at the Z.
