The point of the Committee is to go on historical record and to recommend charges to the DOJ.  That's it.  If a few people in the middle's eyes are opened by it, then cool but it's really irrelevant to the work of the Committee.  Absolutely no one cares if hard core Trump supporting cult members are convinced by it.  Literally no one's dumb enough to think that a bunch of fascists care about a coup attempt.

I’m gonna have to disagree slightly. I think they are trying to appeal to normal Americans by making the hearings public. I agree it’s not possible to reach the Trumpbots though.

The Trumpbots don't matter.  It is the other people that matter and especially both the swing vote and even the more sane Repubs (most important of all).  Just need to get enough of those people to ensure Trump either won't/can't run or worse case can't win.  Important to try to make it the former though as the country is in real trouble if Trump runs win or lose.

I don't even think you believe this.  What changes exactly do you expect the DOJ to make as a result of these findings?

I'll tell you what should happen. It's in the constitution.

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.

Outside of him being indicted there's 100% no way that this ever happens.  When it comes to running, the rest of the country is meaningless, the only thing that matters is his standing/influence in the Republican party, and that's not diminishing any time soon.  He'll bludgeon anyone in his way and the party will cheer for it, even if they're in a stage right now where they're pretending like they won't.  Every one of these right wingers that are calling for DeSantis now will be right there applauding Trump when he's appointed by the party without their say so.

Well that's what I'm talking about.  Not the Trumpbots but enough of the sane ones.  The Liz Cheney's of the world miraculously gaining some foothold and growing it.  I don't see it happening either but that is what is needed.  If Trump runs and wins the nomination then it is BIG trouble for the country no matter whether he wins or not.  Prosecuting him is also fraught with massive risk.

If you're not with Trump, you're a Rhino. So you mean Rhino's, like Liz Cheney. LOL.

The Liz Cheney's of the world are great.  They're doing an important service for the country and I think for anyone rational on the right or left, they seem like really impressive, serious politicians.  But they're irrelevant.  She's polling behind by, what, 20 or 30% in the state her family's represented for decades?  She's toast and so is Kinzinger and pretty much anyone else that was a sane House member on the right side of the aisle is already long gone.  The Senates a little more split and there's still a few traditional Republicans in there, but no one's counting on the Mitch McConnell's of the world to save us.

It's over.  The Republican Party is completely gone.  You may think the Trump wing is the RINO wing, but that's not true anymore.  The Republican party is wholly guided by Trump-brand fascist populism, so any traditional conservatives left are truly Republican in Name Only.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senator Lindsey Graham will not comply with a subpoena issued by a grand jury in Georgia investigating former U.S. President Donald Trump's alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, attorneys for the lawmaker said on Wednesday.

"Senator Graham plans to go to court, challenge the subpoena, and expects to prevail," attorneys Bart Daniel and Matt Austin said in a statement made on behalf of Graham.

You don't have to tell me.  I threw in the towel on that party shortly after Mitch blinked.  I called it over at that point and said they missed their final shot.

Doesn't mean I'm going to not hope for a miracle.

btw - Everyone in here should be hoping for some Cheney led miracle.  If we get Trump in '24 things are going to go from very very bad near catastrophe level to far far worse and again that is win or lose for Trump.

If we get Trump in '24 things are gonna go from lock n load to lock n loader. And if he wins in '28, lock n loadest.

I think she's great but her political career is over. She will be on CNN or MSNBC as a political analyst this time next year.

It's going to be Biden and Trump again in all likelihood. All Biden needs to do is see a little economic improvement in 2024 before the election and Trump will lose again.

That is about as bad it gets but I'm afraid that is the most likely scenario.

And live of course. I'd say that's more of the concern at this point.

I don't see many scenarios where it isn't. Trump is 100% the gop nominee unless he dies. Polls have him 40 points ahead of DeSantis who is in second place. Biden might decide not to run again if things get worse, but he's most likely running again too.

I'd like to see a debate in '24 where Trump complains about losing the last election for an hour while Biden sleeps the whole time.

I'm afraid I agree.  I would like someone other than Biden and of course the best thing would be some turn of events that meant Trump couldn't run.  I don't ever want to wish for someone to become seriously ill but in this case I will be resigned to that with regard to Trump.

Yeah the biggest question mark at this point is who he picks as his VP because it sure as ish ain't gonna be Pence. Prior to SCOTUS overturning Roe v Wade, you could make a strong case that Haley would help flip some of that suburban female vote, but since that ship has now sailed, I think it's a lock for DeSantis who sees this as a stepping stone for his own run in '28.

...only if it's held on the side of an active volcano like the final scene of The Northman

No way he picks DeSantis.  Too big of a threat.   Guaranteed Trump doesn't trust him.  It'll be one of his kids.
