How does something like this happen? Seriously, how does a committee that's supposed to be closely investigating this day get it this horribly, embarrassingly wrong? There are really two options, right? Either they:

1. Are so horribly incompetent that they didn't bother to interview the SS agents allegedly involved.

2. Assumed the SS agents involved would keep their mouths shut and go along with the lie.

That's it. Those are literally the only two options. So which is it?
