Ah I think I misunderstood. I was wondering about the $499 6 series, which now knowing what a 6 series is I determined is the TCL:

So the TCL is equivalent basically to this Samsung below, just it says TCL instead of Samsung?

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-55-class-q60t-series-4k-uhd-tv-smart-led-with-hdr/6401755.p?skuId=6401755

The TCL 6-series is also a QLED (quantum dot LED display) that will be similar in nature to Samsung's you listed, but the TCL has full backlight/dimming zones and the Samsung Q60 is edge lit, so it's possible the TCL may have be better in some display areas and the Samsung in others.

I trust these guys a decent bit, LG B9 recommendation excluded!

They have a NEW deal going on this week that gives 40% off open box tvs. Just started reading the thread about it.  Will post here in a minute

Btw, that new bigger remote sucks. I like the One Remote 1000x more

Like literally considering these open box deals just to replace the 50" 7-series with the same year 49" 8-series so that I will have the small remote, even though 99% of my bedroom viewing is DirecTV so I use my Genie Mini Remote for 100% of my TV on/off usage making the remote that came with the TV not even really matter unless I want to set a sleep timer

Bestbuy is trying to clear out all of their open box items.

Is the price showing on the website reflecting the 40% already or not? I called the store earlier today after reading your 50% email and the girl said the promo ended a couple weeks ago and it was employees-only.

I would say I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on the TCL 6 series. Like might order tonight.

that's the one I have over my fireplace now. Buy where you are comfortable, but I like the flexibility of simple return/full refund if I'm not sold, or maybe 3 weeks goes by and there is a 65" that falls to the same price as your 55" and you are like "Damn I'd love to have that bigger screen at the same price point!"

One thing is that this bottom center logo/icon turns into a night light when the TV is off, but it's simple enough to find/disable in the settings that I did it by accident the day I got it and was following the Rtings websites calibration recommended settings

Yeah best buy says it doesn't have any available to ship to me for some reason. Not partial to amazon just was the only link at that price point i could find.

oh damn, they are showing as store inventory only... wonder if there's been an uptick in tv sales (like game consoles) with people stuck inside 24/7

Best Buy stopped in-home work during covid, and I bought the OLED like 2-3 days before the world shut down. I can fit a 55" in my car, but the associate with NOT let me do it, as I would have to lay the tv flat through the trunk, and I guess the OLEDS are crazy sensitive/fragile. Made me do home delivery (which is free for that size).

Well, when I decided I hated it... I'm now stuck in a scenario where they keep pushing out the return window, but nobody will come into your house so how the hell do I return this OLED and swap it for the TCL-6? Finally called up after draging my feet for a month and they told me they will pick it up "outside" the home, aka I just slid it to the front of my garage nd remote-opened the door when they showed up to take it away.

Similarly when the delivered the TCL a couple days later I just hit the garage door opener button, they walked it into the garage and set it down and went on the merry way... looks like I timed the "there's gotta be a way to return this, let me call" juuuust right!

It ended last Sunday.  It was hit or miss with each store.  I just went to mine and asked for the 2 TVs i wanted.  They both rang up with 50% additional off.  But some people did run into store morons that said it was for employees only.  A lot of them talked the sales associate into ringing it up only to see the discount automatically apply.

As for the 40% now,  i think it's the same deal.  Have to read thru that slickdeals thread for details

so much of the 40% thread was all refrigrator and other appliance discussions. the 50% thread had much better content

Ya that 50% off deal was ridiculous.

Am I in the minority that prefer the surround sound speakers to soundbars?

Oh! On that topic. I think that set had the BEST packaging design I’ve seen on a smart tv. The way the styrofoam and cardboard and everything else is pieced together is envy-level. I work for an HVAC manufacturer that’s sells what should be these durable a** unit, and somehow a combination of the packaging and the trucking companies manage to F ish up in ways I can’t even comprehend.

Not as far as im concerned.  My theater setup...

Denon x6500h

All definitive technology speakers.

Center CS- 9080

Fronts  BP 9080x

Surrounds SR 9080

4 Atmos speakers  DT 6.5R's

And just ordered a pair of SVS PB16 ultra subwoofers.

I ditched the projector due to changing theater rooms.  Now using the Samsung 82 Inch Q70.

Well onto the next thing to purchase, whats the recommendation for sound bars in here?

Before anyone says to blow out my walls and install speakers in my floors, I am in a rental and think a soundbar should do the trick for the next 1.5 years I am here.

this was recommended last year by AVclub.com

vizio 5.1 soundbar

what i like about it is that it's super affordable but most importantly, the rear spears are wired BUT connect to the wireless subwoofer and go where ever the subwoofer goes. we have the same soundbar currently (but only with the subwoofer) and for the price we paid (<$200) we like it. we have very high vaulted ceilings so there is very little (beyond building a system) we can do to get full surround sound but vizio is pretty good for the price.

edit: we're picking up below because we needed an alternative for purchasing and hdmi switcher (current tv has only two hdmi input)

sony 5.2 multi-channel receiver

We have the older version of this and it's great.

Anyone know what would work great with 2 old Bose 901 series 6 speakers that are still in great condition?

Do you mean as far as a receiver to power them?

You have to check the ohm rating on those.  I know some bose speakers like those little square jewel speakers have really strange ohm ratings like 3ohm... basically they only work with Bose receivers/systems.  If those are 4 ,6, or 8 ohm speakers, use them as fronts.  Get a center channel speaker, 2 surround speakers, a subwoofer and receiver and you'll be good to go.  A decent center speaker can be had for $300. Surroundeds maybe $50-100 each. Subwoofer will depend a lot on how big the room is.

This will be my next receiver, once the price finally drops a little bit
