I have much too pricey of a soundbar (open box discount) and for similar price point, most people would be better off doing a traditional surround. I am in a townhouse (that has better sound insulation than I realized) so I wanted to go with the simple/easy/lazy route, and so far I've been happy with the purchase (which was almost 50% off).

Years prior (talking like 8-10) LG made a PHENOMENAL sound bar/sub in the $300ish range (commonly on sale for like $170)... but that entire range of $150-400 soundbars have been value engineered down WORSE than the TVs even have been, and all of them suck. You gotta get into that $800ish MSRP range for something with quality (as well as waiting for them to drop on sale in the $400 range), and I got like a $1300 MSRP one for $700ish which is the only reason I pulled the trigger on what I have.

Awesome receiver. I just dont like the premium put on it for IMAX sound. There is  only a handful of material mixed with it, AND if you dont have a significant speaker setup, its not worth it.

Yeah, they're holding firm at that premium price.  Probably won't allow discounting until they release the SR7014.  I've been buying Onkyo's for a while now, and while they're good receivers, it seems like they're out of date as soon as you buy them, and Onkyo quits supporting them with updates a few weeks later.  Marantz packed this one with everything, and they support their products for years, which is why I'm going to pay up for this bad boy in the coming months.

Ever consider the Denon?  Denon and Maranzt share mostly the same inside parts. I believe they are manufactured at the same place.  I have had Denon receivers for the last few years with no issues.

I do like to stick things into holes.  Those 901's were every music loving teens dream back in the late '80s.  My father in law still has a pair on the book shelves in his den, and they still sound great.

I have, I looked at them and Yamaha's, and I'd probably be just as happy with a similarly featured receiver from either of them (you're right, Denon and Marantz are owned by the same company, as are Polk Audio and Boston Acoustics).  My last analog receiver, many years back, was a Marantz, though, and that thing was a tank, so I kind of have a fondness for the brand, which I'm sure led me to pick this one when I decided it was getting to be time to replace my current receiver.  Truth be told, I'd drop the coin for it right now, but, in the interest of maintaining domestic tranquility during this lock down period, figured it would be best to wait for a better price in the near future.

The TCL 6-series is also a QLED (quantum dot LED display) that will be similar in nature to Samsung's you listed, but the TCL has full backlight/dimming zones and the Samsung Q60 is edge lit, so it's possible the TCL may have be better in some display areas and the Samsung in others.

I trust these guys a decent bit, LG B9 recommendation excluded!

Like literally considering these open box deals just to replace the 50" 7-series with the same year 49" 8-series so that I will have the small remote, even though 99% of my bedroom viewing is DirecTV so I use my Genie Mini Remote for 100% of my TV on/off usage making the remote that came with the TV not even really matter unless I want to set a sleep timer

I would say I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on the TCL 6 series. Like might order tonight.

I have a 55" TCL Series 6 with built in Roku.  I cannot recommend it enough. For a flat screen it is bulky and heavy, but for the price you can't beat the quality. I can't say enough about it.

Good to hear, should be arriving tomorrow, I'm pretty psyched about it. Most exciting thing to happen in weeks here during quarantine.

Seems like we’ll have a few of us with that! I bought a 6-series about 1.5 years ago that’s in my basement, so it probably is the 2018 version. The 2019 just jumped to the QLED tech and added a night light to the front-button logo plate, from what I can identify as differences.

Well new tcl is all set up. Waiting for new tv stand to arrive on Tuesday so right now it's up on 2 24 packs of diet coke so its a little low.

Overall I'm loving it so far. The roku interface is definitely awesome.

Speaking on the topic of stands, did you already have the one there? Looks like it fits the 75 footprint perfectly

Yeah, I had it at my old place with a 60" Vizio.

All 3 are from the Ikea Hemnes line - which is about the only stuff I'll buy from there.

what's the best 82" tv out there...moderately priced?  i usually buy vizio but it can be any brand.  this will go in a basement with no natural light, if that makes a difference.

i'm going to do some research but figured i'd ask in case anyone here has something they like.

I've had awesome stands of similar nature before but my obnoxious fire place location made those impossible, so I was happy to stumble upon this in a store and its worked great for my corner-mount application

Best Buy has 0% 24 month financing on home theatre purchases over $999...... It's worth getting a better TV and spreading out the cash hit.

I'm assuming all stores/web sites have the same price, so using these. I HATED the remote/menu interface on the LG OLED set and was a big reason (in addition to the display seeming very meh compared to OLEDs on display in the store) I returned it for a more "modest" TCL that I'm way happier with. As a result I would strongly recommend either Samsung. The QLED will give you a bit more pizzazz but the 8000 series is the top LCD Samsung has made the past few years and will look really good as well

at 82" you're looking at $2000 (with sales tax, unless you are close enough to Delaware? Are they tax free? And can transport that large of a box yourself).

I ALWAYS do this, but found my Q90 online at $1799 when the cheapest Best Buy/Amazon/etc had it was like $2700, so I just paid cash at that alternative location.

oh hunt! on the topic of the Samsung 8000.. the RU was last year's model, and has BETTER display their the TU (2020 model) 8000... I don't know if the TU comes in 8000 but if you keep the spent low, trying to find the 2019 model of that TV would be the better spend IMO

I think Samsung is pushing all the best tech to the QLEDs and making their 6/7/8000 series LED their "basic" brands for those on lesser budgets or who just don't care about features/lag/framerate as much

I mentioned this with another guy, but great thing with them is free home delivery (they will only bring to front door via corona), and if you dislike for whatever reason, just call them to exchange with another model and they'll deliver the new and take back the old. My diva self has done that twice  over 2 years
