Crazy thought... what if Sirianni would much rather have Minshew at QB, and is setting Hurts up for failure to a certain extent, in order to build the case that Hurts can't be 'the guy' and that it is time to turn the page?   We know that when Sirianni was hired, he was expecting Wentz to be the QB.  What if he's not tailoring the offense specifically for Hurts, so that he can make the old switcheroo, but is waiting for the right time to do it?

Ok, end of the conspiracy theory stuff from me.

The flip side is that Sirianni might just not be a very good coach... and more importantly, that they missed the boat in putting anyone with HC experience or even prior coordinator experience on the coaching staff to help him.  Going with a ridiculously young staff can be good, but there's something to be said for having some grey hairs around that have been through it all to balance youthful exuberance or idealism.   Andy had some old salts on his original coaching staff with JJ (and the DL coach he brought with him who's name escapes me) and Rod Dowhower.  JJ and the DL coach had seen it all.  Dowhower was a former HC.  They knew the NFL and had to deal with things.  Andy wasn't thrown to the wolves without some mentor help in house.  Sirianni seems to have been set adrift at sea without a compass and was expected to 'figure it out'.   He needs some time to grow into the job as well, I think.  But, what we are seeing right now is a lot of inexperience across the board!

I don’t think this is really much of a stretch as Tim McManus about a month ago went on 975 and said the coaching staff really wasn’t all in on Jalen hurts or all that high on him from what he has been told. Like you pointed out when they hired him I don’t think he believed the quarterback of this team was going to be Jalen hurts. thought was wentz was likely coming back and they could convince him to stay.

I don’t know if Siriani is a good coach or a bad coach. Right now trending towards the bad. Like you said very inexperienced with no help around him that has experience. That is a crucial mistake for a first time HC especially a young head coach who hasn’t had 20 years in the league.

Rodgers is one of the few guys who gets to pick where he goes.

Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson get to pick too; they both have no-trade clauses in their contracts -- and neither had Philly on their lists they would waive to go.

Another thing I've noticed, and it's a small sample size, but one of things repeated over and over all offseason was "the moments never too big for Jalen Hurts". Well, his three worst games as a pro have all come in prime time games and it spans two coaching staffs.

Yup. This is just such an awful answer

OK, well, taking a step back to digest that ish sandwich, here are my thoughts that no one asked for.

1. After the 1st 2 drives, you really can't complain that much about the defense. Even overall they held up well since the offense was putting them right back on the field again and again. Gannon's system annoys me at times, but holding Brady to 28 when the offense is 3 and out on every drive for the first three quarters -- not terrible. Slay made Evans a non-factor, and I still think Epps caught that ball. Sure, TB was in range to score on the last drive, and Epps needs to stop that pass to Brown on 3rd down. Still...I'll take that from the defense on short rest.

2. I've seen enough of Hurts. The pocket presence is just abysmal. I can't take watching him just bail out when the pocket is stable time and time again. It's like he just decided that at 3 seconds, he's moving no matter what. Minshew showed he can be an NFL QB, Hurts has not. Let's see this offense with Minshew so we can more fairly evaluate NS.

3. Reagor had no catches, but with 2 good throws he has a monster night.

4. I feel somewhat optimistic about the offense away from QB??? Line played well against a great pass rush while being a bunch of backups. Watkins, Smith and yes, Reagor, seemed to get open.

The schedule is about to get a whole lot easier. I'm not sure why we need to continue sending Jalen out there at this point.

that would take way too much typing to go through who all I would keep, trade, or extend.

Yep.  Howie naysayers hate to admit that Howie has set this team up brilliantly going into the 2022 draft.   (Likely 3 first round picks) plus a plethora of other picks and 10-12 younger starters already.

yep

How come no one ever talks about how good of a team Tom Brady went to?  He went to a team/offense that the QB before him threw for over 5,100 yards and 33 TD's.  They then add a top 3 TE of all time, a top 15-20 WR of all time, an elite tackle in Wirfs, one of the most physically talented RB's in the NFL in Fournette to one of the best defenses in all of the NFL.

I don’t know I think a lot of people did say that when he signed there. The offense was actually set up for only needing a quarterback to succeed. The biggest joke imo was a tackle which they got in wirfs that particular draft. The biggest issue with the Buccaneers offensively before he got there was their quarterback situation. They had the two wide receivers and the makings of a good oline with Jameis Winston. Winston’s inability to limit his turnovers was the reason that offense was a roller coaster each week.

Penalties killed Buc secondary b/c they were committing PI on every other play, Reagor had two none calls on 3rd down that were clearly PI (grabbing the WR's arm?).

Geez, I love fans:

Pre-season - trade everyone for draft picks, rebuild

Regular season - bench the young QB for a JAG, why can't we beat top teams with our lack of talent?

We knew this was going to be a three year process, that there were going to be a lot of growing pains, so stop whining.

Young QBs struggle, especially on bad teams where they're asked to do too much. Get over it.

I've seen really bad teams, I've seen HCs lose teams, we're not seeing anything like that here. So relax.

First off, in today's NFL there is no reason any team, no matter how bad they are should be a 3 year rebuild. Secondly, young QBs (that are true franchise QBs) struggle but they don't miss on basic throws on a regular basis. Sorry, but this coaching staff is as bad as it gets. The eagles have never been this poorly coached.

Slightly disagree with 1 and 4. With 1, I think Brady's thumb injury is actually a bigger deal than I thought and speculated on. After halftime he looked completely different from the first half and wasn't throwing well. With short rest I think his thumb started getting worse because he just looked off. I also think they could have done more if they wanted to, but felt good being up 21 and just went through the motions up until the last drive. Eagles D had some moments but holding them to 28 feels like more of circumstance than play.

And with 4, I don't think the line played well. It wasn't awful enough for Hurts to be escaping after 3 seconds but they got pushed around quite a bit.

I wonder if Lurie even cares that this has become unacceptable.   That’s the key question.  Not running game, qb, defensive scheme, drafting.  It’s does Lurie recognize or care?

I really think, he thinks, we are "fine". He doesn't want to run the ball, it's by design, his design, it's his QB that was handpicked in round 2.

As far as defense goes, that's where I don't think he cares much. To hell with the teams rich defense history, he really only cares about offense.
