That’s crazy.  Best QB in franchise history?  Yes. It should have been retired.

Best QB in franchise history like there's a long list of great QBs.  That's not enough.  He was never the best QB in the league, or even really top 5.  He was a very good QB, but he wasn't elite.  He was always a liability in the playoffs, specifically the biggest games.   I defended him all throughout his time here, but I have a very high view of what players should have their numbers retired.

The Eagles likely should have had about 4 total.  Van Buren, Bednarik, White and Dawkins.  All HoFers, all left a legacy on the game that can't be matched.

Van Buren - first RB to go over 1000 yards twice in his career.  Set the all-time rushing record twice, retired as the league's all-time leading rusher, led the team to back to back championships. 8 seasons, 7 times All-Pro (5 1st team)
Bednarik - Last of the 60 minute men.  Went back to playing LB because the team needed him too.  Made the final tackle in the 1960 NFL Championship game. (Also on the 1949 championship team) 10 times All-Pro (all 1st team)
White - I don't think I need to explain this one.  Greatest DE in NFL history.  6 time All-Pro (1st team only) with Eagles.
Dawkins - Greatest versatile safety in recent NFL history.  Was as dominant near the LOS as playing deep.  Became the prototype for the Swiss Army knife safety.  5 time All-Pro (4 1st team)

An argument could be made for Al Wistert, as a 8 time All-Pro (6 1st Team).

McNabb is a team HoF guy, not a number retire guy.  My opinion, the bar has been set far too low for who should and shouldn't have their numbers retired.  0 times All-Pro.  Nothing all that legendary about him to put him in the elite among the elite crowd that I believe should be the level for retiring numbers.

Eh...the next extensions coming are Hargrave and Goedert. Hargrave has a massive 2022 cap hit ($17.8 million). Extend him and lower that. Goedert might wait until later in the year.

I'd get Hargrave done ASAP.

I honestly want nothing to do with a Hargrave extension.  Let him play out his 3rd year when he'll be 30.  I don't want to commit the huge money it's going to cost to yet another 30+ DT.

Example: Fletcher Cox

With regards to Goedert, it just doesn't make sense from where this franchise sits, lacking so much talent across the defensive side of the ball, some potential OL holes, potential needs at RB not to mention the enormous question mark at quarterback and it's just silly to spend top 3 money on a tight end.  It's just a luxury this team is in no position to spend money on.

Extending Hargrave would just be more of the same, locking in to a player that is going to be on the wrong side of 30 when the 'big money' kicks in and locks us in when the production won't match the cost.   No thank you.  If he's still at that level, franchise him for one more year at elite play and then let him walk.   This team won't be ready to compete before his prime ends.

Mikey Miss was just reading the NFL.com scouting report on the air.  Jalen Hurts has shown zero improvement in all of these areas.

yeah his knocks coming out of college are all still exactly the same.

We all HOPED for improvement, at what point do we throw in the towel? I mean this is his second year, he had a whole offseason where he was considered the starter, and sorry I have not seen any improvement that would suggest to me we should keep holding onto hope.

We all know what the definition of insanity is....

He's a runner.  He ran to get them back in both those games.  He is at his best when he's not throwing the ball, but running with it.

DOes he want to try out as a rb? with the occasional half back pass option? Maybe a Flex back, can he catch?

Thoughts on Kelce?

How do you think he'll get PT?  They don't play dime or any other looks.  The only CB to play a defensive snap this year are Slay, Nelson and Maddox.

It's wild to me that they are 5 deep at WR and before today, 6 deep at CB but only the top 3 at each position play on offense or defense, give or take 5-7 snaps for Ward and JJAW.

The only way I see him contributing is on ST which means you're taking snaps away from most likely Josiah Scott who will now go inactive if they cut Mac McClain.

Andre Chachere IMO is their best ST player right now.  Zech McPhearson is up there with him.  Those 2 guys aren't having any snaps taken away.

He's not here to start right away, Gowan is a project who'll get plenty of practice time and they're prepare him to compete for a job next season.

He fell to the 6th rd b/c he only had one year of big college experience (JC transfer) and opted out of 2020.

Haven't fleshed that one out all the way yet... definitely worth considering.   I do hesitate with number retirement, but I think he's a guy that will also end up in Canton someday, has the All-Pro status, and frankly, should have been All-Pro a couple more times than he was.

If he's not a retired number, I think that number goes into deep storage for a while... or they hand it out to their hottest interior OL candidate for the legacy number.   (I am a big fan of the legacy number move in place of the retirement.)

Just based on his SB celebration speech - that was one of the greatest all time Philly sports fan moments. Worthy of being immortalized.

I didn't say he was here to start.  I said how is he going to get any PT?  The Eagles play Slay, Nelson and Maddox....THAT'S IT.

My fear is Howie is going to think he did enough investing in CB with a 4th on McPhearson, 6th traded for Josiah Scott and now the Eagles all time great TE for Gowan.  That's going to be his argument when he passes on legit CB talent in round 1 next year.

Did we start 0-6? Do we look like vintage Jax? You think Lowie expected to have a winning season?

No I'm sure they didn't expect to have a winning season. But for a lot of this year their offense has looked clueless.

Hopefully he doesn't get to discuss what the new GM does with the draft.

What are the odds Howie had better offers earlier in the year?

So we aren't Jax.  That's the best you can say now?

No chance. They LOVE Gowan.

Not trying to be negative but that might be one of the worst highlight tapes I've ever seen.  I know he's raw, only playing 1 year and taking last year off but I don't really know what I call a highlight on there.   I see a lot of bad throws that he just happened to be around the intended WR.

Ridiculously high.

But what if there isn’t any good CBs available? The Eagles suck at evaluating and developing them anyway.

Yeah agreed. The highlights from preseason could have been DPI. I do like how aggressive he is on his college tape, but he needs a lot of work. Will have to develop throughout the rest of the season in practice and hopefully get some playing time at the end.

He is a 2021 draft pick and played only 1 year at UCF.  How many highlights could he have?

the most recent one, anyway...

Howie’s got him and Togiai, so he’s learned his lesson. Just need to go get Russell Wilson now.

Does this mean Reagor had a good game? 95 yards is objectively good...
