Every mobile young QB has struggled this year, which shouldn't surprise people, most of the top picks fail b/c in college, coaches want to win now, so they encourage athletic QBs to make plays with their legs, when they hit the NFL, they find out they can't juke and out run CBs and safeties, DCs will employ spies, and you can't match 1st rd talent WRs against CBs who'll never sniff the draft.

I think Siri went a little overboard trying to make Hurts comfortable, it's a rebuilding year, run your offense and make Hurts figure it out, or not.

I suspect that Siri isn’t close to finishing the install of his entire offense.

I suspect our current starting QB limits just how much of that offense he can actualy utilize.

They needed servers in America. That isn’t much of an issue anymore.

But also, there’s not much useful data you’re gonna gather from there lol.

Probably but I don’t want either. We need a real one, coach too.

Do you think Sirianni has the authority to replace Hurts?

Goff is lost, wonder if there was a shoulder injury that was quietly hid.

Heinecke has come back to earth.

All the young QBs are struggling, maybe it's tough to transition from college offenses to the NHL?

Wentz is going to end the year around #10 or so, pretty much the same as 2018-2019, the injury cost him a chance to be elite, with reduced mobility he'll always be a little limited, but the big arm and height gives him an edge - but I wouldn't bet on his long-term durability.

Can Hurts play goalie?

Young QBs do struggle.  It doesn't mean you can't evaluate their progression.  I think with Hurts there are a range of potential outcomes in terms of his development. I just do not see enough to believe one of those is as a high end starting NFL QB.

There was a stat that out of Hurts 207 completions, only 6 were considered across the middle. Fans here are still writing that he needs to drop back and more schemed roll outs

My suspicion is Siri is going to look at the film and can the RPO, it really doesn't play to Hurts' strengths.

Go more conventional play action, roll Hurts out at times, but let him use his mobility as a pocket QB who can evade pressure, and not put him in a position where he's easily defended.

The RPO forces you to be a one read QB (have to throw in under 2 seconds or you end up with OL getting downfield), it's more valuable as a "changeup" to get easy 1st downs when a defense is unprepared than a staple of an offense - NFL DCs have seen too much of it to be taken by surprise anymore.

Sure, Lawrence look pretty good against Miami, who hasn't? Fields looks no better than Hurts, same with WIlson. So it's a bit early to jump to conclusions.

Conventional play action and roll him out at times?   At least 95% of the snaps taken in his career back to college have been in the pistol\shotgun, he already gets the ball 3 yards behind any sort of pressure and still leaves  the pocket early because he either has no feel for when the pocket is actually collapsing, or he doesn’t care and is trying to put himself in position to run.  Drop back passers like the Mannings we’re actually better under center, taking 3-5 step drops with their back to the left side of the field than they were out of the shotgun and seeing the entire field pre, and post snap.
It’s a passing formation that Hurts and now a lot of teams are using, the good to great QBs stay in the pocket to the last possible second throw the ball and take the hit, as soon as Hurts rolls out and watches the pressure, he’s not seeing open guys across the middle and all over the field.  This is why out of his 208 attempts this season, only 6 attempts have been across the middle.
Defenses are gonna continue to bring pressure to his right to cut off his natural roll outs, his muscle memory from years of experience playing QB at Alabama and Oklahoma is actually a bad habit that apparently can’t be coached out of him, and until he figures this out, if he even can, he won’t be a long term successful NFL franchise QB.
His arm isn’t top 10 and it’s closer to Foles than Wentz, but it’s adequate, the reason he only competes passes over 20 yards at a 11% clip is that he’s too late throwing the ball. NFL receivers cover a lot of distance in one second, it all tied to watching pressure, and rolling out.
Its the reason he was a 2nd round pick and some predicted he should be a 3rd to 4th pick. This stuff is all over his scouting report from Alabama, then to Oklahoma, to the NFL.

I can sum up the two types of Videos on there I have seen:

1) Fake videos of staged events that are just cringe worthy , created contect for clicks

2) Narcissist's who post "look at me" video's of everything from look at my arse, or boobs bouncing, or just talking about stoopid sheet.

Instagram reels and tiktoc are very similar

Our society has fallen so far as the participation trophy generations are growing older, it may never survive

What's wrong with that? 😄

Not this early.  I think if he's expressing reservations to Howie he's likely being told to see what he can do with him at least until mid-season.

The next 3-4 games will tell a lot.  If he's not picking up the offense or even regressing in it, at that point I think we'll see Minshew start being active on game days as the #2.  Once that happens I think it becomes a short leash.

I think that type of decision would be from Howie and Lurie's perspective a consensus decision.  I don't think he couldn't address the issue with Howie or even insist on the change.  I don't think it would happen unless there was some sort of tacit agreement from Howie and Lurie.  I don't think he could just go into a week of preparation and split the reps with Hurts and Minshew.

I am not sure what they're going to do with it.  I do think they are very focused on big data and use of analytics in both the economy and to achieve a Chinese hegemony.  They are using it to develop AI technology.  They are restrictive in access to data within China.  They see it as potentially useful in future military conflicts.  On the other hand, kids find Tik Tok entertaining.

They need this to get to the point where the players are in on a change as well.  He's too well thought of in the locker room to do it too early.

Sirianni can't make that change, until he changes himself and acknowledges that they need to call more straight run plays to help Hurts.

And someone tell me why we didn't hire Brandon Staley?       Oh yeah, because this owner only considers hiring OFFENSIVE head coaches.   Shame, Staley seems to be the best of the new crop of HCs.

I think having Herbert and their skill players certainly plays a large part in making Staley look very good so far.

This fanbase would not like Staley constantly going on 4th like Doug did

Staley has already been completely asinine with his 4th down gambles.

I know some of you don't venture outside The Blog so I wanted to post what I thought was a good video (breakdown on game film by former QB JT O'Sullivan) someone posted in the Jalen Hurts Discussion thread, showing Hurts and the O vs the Bucs.  There were a couple examples of poor play design, but there were examples of plays being there and Hurts missing them as well.  The thing I noticed most is how truly awful his throwing mechanics are.  He just doesn't set/plant his feet and drive the ball using his whole body.  He almost always takes a hop step just before throwing and often is throwing off just one foot.  This is the kind of issue that will take an entire off-season of constant work to start to correct.  Between him not being able to read the D pre-snap, get the ball to the open read quick enough, and his poor mechanics then I don't see how he makes any improvement this season.

I don't think they'll bench him yet.  Too soon for the FO.  I do think we need to see Minshew get a run of at least a few games to determine if it's more QB play or scheme that is holding the O back.  That comparison needs to happen before the season ends.

I'm not talking about their record, I'm talking about his communication and the reasoning behind the game plan - his comments on the running game and the taunting calls, in particular.

Ultimately, that doesn't mean a lot, except that his communication to the media seems to be mirroring his messaging to the team.  Sirianni's explanation for why he's not running the ball more is just ludicrous.

I'd prefer that to refusing to run the ball.

Yes, agreed that Staley seems a much better communicator than Sirianni. At least when it comes to the press. I really hate conspiracies, but man is it tough to ignore what appears to be a very large influence in Howie/Lurie. It seems they just hang over every aspect of the team, where most successful teams have the head coach as the centre of attention. I wonder how much of Nick struggling in pressers is a result of Lowie being in his ear about what to say.

Looks like I was right in my speculation that it was some sort of depression and anxiety that Lane was going through.

That first play, Hurts never even set up in the pocket for a moment.  He hit his back foot on the last step of his drop, and immediately bailed.  That's when the ball should have been out to Smith.. or  give him a beat to get into the window past the LB that is spying.
