That Dolphins pick is looking better and better.

So, I don't know enough about RPOs to answer this, but I'm guessing some of you do. It seems Hurts always opts for the pass, regardless of what the end does or how many are in the box. Are defenses doing something to fool Hurts into pulling the ball, or is he just trying to play hero ball?

It feels like Nick needs to drop the RPOs and just call running plays FFS. I know the new age is to give QBs options to respond to the defensive look, but that only works if your QB can diagnose the defense.

Either his processing is just abysmal or he's playing too much hero ball. This one below is nothing special at all from the D

There was another one a few weeks back where it was 3rd and 7 and they had 8 in the box. For whatever reason he actually handed that one off. I feel like sometimes he has no idea what he's doing. These are simple reads they are asking him to do. Kelce already points out the Mike every play for him, all he has to do for these is count the box and then read one defender.

Random 2022 QB thought that will no doubt get me killed, but I think it might be interesting. Assuming Hurts continues to definitively prove that he isn't the long-term answer, we have Minshew on the roster since there isn't a great college QB that is standing out currently. Looking at the list of potential free agent QBs, one name actually intrigues me.

[Deep breath, prepare for the incoming...]

Mitch Trubisky.

Why? Well, we know for damn sure that Matt Nagy is useless, based on how he has handled the QB situation this year. He'll be cheap (only $2.5mm cap number this year in Buffalo), he was once the #2 pick in the draft, and he is still relatively young. If you can get him for around the same cap number, I think it's intriguing to bring him in to compete with Minshew.

Flame away.

And people thought me suggesting Winston was bad.....

The one thing I haven't seen discussed much now that Ertz is gone is our veteran skill player is Goedert who is just 26. Ertz has lost some steps but he still had the experience to get open and also know what to do on scramble drills. The current guys are so young every time Hurts just flees the pocket they kind of stand around not really knowing what to do. I think Goedert will be fine starting over him for the rest of the season but the lack of a veteran guy will still show up on some plays.

I'm not sure what's worse.  Hurt's lack of ability to read defenses, his arm or his mechanics.  Those defenders and Wentz haters sure have been quiet lately.  Meanwhile, Wentz has looked really good the last two weeks.

If I had to rate them

Mechanics - worse. His feet are awful.

Reading Defenses

Arm

Goedert is a better blocker, YAC player and vertical threat.
Ertz is better one on one in space and as a player in a bunch set to cause separation.

Different skill-sets.

This is the problem with waiting around for the light to come on with Hurts when youre already 99% sure of his ceiling

Things will degrade further as they try everything they can to make Hurts a functional QB

Turn the page and do it now

Interesting.  Good breakdown of some pretty ugly football.  He must have missed all of those Wide Receivers that Nick is "scheming open".  But he had his hands full breaking down poor mechanics, poor effort, poor design and an overall sloppy offense.  But I am sure that there is film out there of a bunch of plays that shows how Nick's "scheme is clearly working".     Hurts doesn't have the arm talent to make some of the throws this offenses is asking him to make.  JT says it, there were some tough throws they are asking him to make.  That's a bad QB in a bad offense lead by a bad coach.

Youre so butthurt about a comment I made last week

On every single one of those plays, there was at least one person wiiiiide open

You need to stop this nonsense.  He can draw up plays. We need an NFL QB

Carolina could of had him for nothing and they still traded picks for Darnold..  That decision btw is going to put their OC, back at LSU in 2022… Seriously though, he shouldn’t of been drafted in the first round and as bad as Howell is now at NC, he’s still better than Trubisky was on draft day.  Trubisky isn’t awful for what he is, a 3rd round pick, same reason why Trask was a 2nd rounder, noodle armed.   It’s just odd with Trask cause he’s a big effin dude.

Makes me wonder if some of the slow reading is actually trying to recover from bad footwork.

I think it's clear that he's almost never ready to throw when he reaches the top of his drop.  Of course, the video points out the deficiencies in the play design and execution.  This is looking more and more like a poorly coached team.  As much as Hurts needs help developing, Sirianni like he does not have good staff around him.  At the very least, they should move on from Steichen.

In reality, Trubisky was the highest rated quarterback in that draft, according to most (but not all) draft analysts, including ESPN’s Mel Kiper, who had Trubisky rated ahead of Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes, Watson and Pitt’s Nathan Peterman. (For the record, former Pro Football Weekly draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki had it Watson-Trubisky-Mahomes.)

This is why I'm worried about picking any QB in the draft.

It's been reported that Orgeron will be out at the end of the season, so maybe Brady returns to be the HC to the team he helped win a National Championship with as an OC?  He gets his HC experience so he doesn't go in cold at the NFL level.  Honestly, he hasn't really lit it up with CAR so far, even with CMC being out they should be a better than what they've shown.

I dont get it.

You also speculated a family health issue, retirement and god knows what else.  If you throw enough ish at the wall, something will stick.

Retirement clearly was on the table with this if he had to step aside for several weeks over depression and anxiety.

Sirianni’s on the job training we could have done without, the guy is a fraud.

They could have signed him on a cheaper deal than they did Flacco, and Trubisky is much better than Flacco. I didn't understand that move.

Here's the key with Hurts. Play him once a year, preferably Week 1. Teams will forget or won't be ready to defend him, he'll play good and he'll win. Then bench him for the rest of the year because every week after that he'll decline.
