I have more confidence in that than I do in him being able to win anything with Hurts there

I would like to see more out of his staff. I am disappointed in his decision making and how the team is performing under his leadership.  It's like they hit the re-set button and we're back at the start of 2020 with this offense.  Nothing is good about it.

Really? So he picked Hurts instead of some help for himself in the 2nd round?  He played with back-ups to the back-ups on the o-line and at wr and he was rewarded by Howie picking a qb in the 2nd round instead of a weapon.

Yeah, I'd want out too. We are idiots

100% this.  That pick showed a lack of commitment to him.

Of course not.  I made this point many times while Wentz was here.

Wentz with Eagles, 31 passes or less -- 18 wins, 2 losses

Wentz with Eagles, 32 passes or more -- 17 wins, 29 losses and a tie (losses might be more -- at some point I quit keeping track)

Howie's and Lurie's fatal flaw was the belief that Wentz functioned best as a "gunslinger", throw it around the yard like Rodgers, Brees, or Brady -- he was never that guy

Don’t forget about relying on injury prone jeffery, injury prone desean, ward and 3 rookies as a fixed WR corps.

He's best, like many QBs, when the team is running the ball well.

His would be MVP year 2017 they were top 5 in rushing.

There were plays to be had if someone could find and hit wide open receivers.

Not sure what Howie was thinking with Kerrigan. Dude only got sacks the last few years because he had an adequate number of snaps, and he is a wiley veteran who can sneak up on guys, or take advantage of inexperience. There were other veteran options which are a better fit for the sparkplug off the bench rotational guy.

I've seen none of this so far this season.

Hargrave carrying the team right now in that department.

hargrave: 6

Rest of the eagles: 5

Avonte Maddox has more sacks than Barnett, Graham, Kerrigan, Jackson, Tuipulotu and Milton Williams combined!

100%   For like the better part of 2019 and 2020 the Offense was all on Wentz.  Very little help.

Kinda need to do that for first half only.  In 2017 especially, we would get out to leads by throwing the ball and then run for the most part in the second half.

As Andy would say, "You throw to score, you run to win."

Lol suspending him for only one game

Wow.  The play seemed harmless.

Another reason why I wanted Surtain over him,  injuries to corners in college usually don’t get better in the NFL, and he’s not a future FS, like Surtain could be.

No presser

Should have been traded within 2 weeks after the end of last season -- or first day of new league year -- however the rules work in the NBA.

Organizational malpractice to still expect him to be a useful member of the team.

I'm not agreeing with the Hurts pick. It was stupid at the time and it's even worse now. After taking Reagor did you really think they would take another weapon in the 2nd? I thought trenches for sure. If Howie wasn't committed to him he should've never extended him. In return this franchise is years away from competing over multiple mistakes

Or an alternative explanation is that Sirianni gets Hurts to understand what to look for so he makes the correct audible at the line.  I agree that Hurts is an issue.  He has problems with mechanics, decision making, pocket presence and arm strength.  My bigger issue is that the problems have gotten worse. If you add to Hurts' woes the fact that the designed run game is practically non-existent I think there is a coaching issue.  Now in fairness the run/pass ratio may be driven by Lurie/Howie.  Sirianni still could take control and address it through playcalling. If he feels like his hands are tied or that things are heading in the right direction, he's not ever going to be  a good coach for this team.  I am not saying that he needs to go but there are issues on this team that go beyond Hurts and give me concern about any QB prospect at this point.

Seriously??? You don't think that's been gone over many times in meetings during the week, and practices? 1 in game timeout is the magic bullet to solve the issue? Come on...

Here's a scary stat:

Josh Sweat has 1.5 sacks.  The rest of the Eagles DE have ZERO.

1.5 sacks for the DE, all by one player.

All sets up for him to return for the home opener so the fans can let him have it.

They suck, I mean they get lots of opportunities the defense is usually out there 3/4s of every game

Or he’ll say he had close contact with a basketball rim that had Covid so he doesn’t have to play.

My belief always was the only way that you were going to keep wentz was if you fired doug cause they seemed to not be on the same page since 2017 ( for the majority of seasons) and fired howie. I think Carson looked at doug like it wasn’t a good fit between them. Almost like he thought reich was more influential than doug for how he played in 2017. And I just don’t think he trusted Howie after that draft pick. There is a part of me that believes as soon as they made that Hurts pick he wanted out.

personally I think the Hurts pick hurt his performance. I also think just the whole pandemic might have factored into throwing him off. But I do see this year when he trusts his head coach and the organization that he is able to play at the level we came accustomed to in 2019.

I wonder if Wentz would have stayed if both Doug and Howie had been canned. I think he likely felt betrayed by Howie and clearly didn't get along with Doug. Ultimately, it looks like Lurie stuck by Howie. For some reason, Howie is always involved in weird power struggles
