His wife died of cancer, and how he handled it was covered extensively in A Football Life, which is why he said people should watch it to get the reference.

It always blew my mind that he got absolutely no recognition in that draft class.  He was one of my favorite RBs that year.  Didn't get a combine invite.  And then I read a scouting report somewhere that actuality said he wasn't athletic. 

I did wonder if Teddy Bridgewater had been watching Hurts tape after watching that performance.  Lots of staring WRs down, missed reads but without the legs now to run for lots of yards
