Reub is now making a very, very important statement.  As much as the coaching staff is out of their depth, and may be a one-and-done situation, adding talented players is paramount.  The team has a unique opportunity to do that next April.  Lurie must decide to take a step back, get rid of the lackey, and hire someone to make the decisions.  He cannot allow himself and lackey to make three first round picks and run the next draft.  Cannot happen.  Unless, they do indeed want to create the new york jets south.

Telling quotes:

"Since being restored to power in 2016, Roseman has drafted 15 players in the first three rounds. The only one who’s made a Pro Bowl is Wentz, who couldn’t wait to leave."

"The last defensive Pro Bowler the Eagles drafted was Fletcher Cox nine years ago. The last Pro Bowler the Eagles drafted outside the first round was Zach Ertz eight years ago and the last one on defense was Trent Cole 16 years ago."

I agree with everything he said, but the sad reality is does anyone trust Lurie to pick the guy who would replace Howie? He might just promote someone from within. I don’t trust Lurie at any capacity right now.

Watch lurie hire gettleman

Pickett...

Only 6'2", arm falls into the meh but good enough category.  Only putting up big numbers (and not quite WOW numbers) as a 5th year senior.

Could he end up being great?  Franchise?  Absolutely.  But I'm not betting on him until round 2.  And in this weak QB class, someone else will invest long before that.

In a stacked QB draft, he's the kind of guy I'd be excited to draft in round 3 as a lottery ticket at the position.  But he's not the type of talent you draft top 10 and marry your future to.

Maybe Pickett will crap out at the Senior Bowl.

I’m in trust the process mode of the rebuild where the draft is the best day of the season. It started really the week Dallas killed us.

Mike Greenberg is an idiot but it was funny listening to him rant about the Jets.  Sounds very similar to our situation.  Questioning Salah hiring, Joe Douglas, ownership, etc.

A new GM for this upcoming draft could help the teams future out so much

Bring in Rick Smith to run the draft.

Not sure why everyone keeps saying that because Miles Sanders was elected to the Pro Bowl

Any RBs in the next class we can use our top 5 pick on?

Promoting Smolenski would be such a Lurie move. I know you all can just picture the press conference now.

”Don has been an instrumental part of this organization for years and I felt it was the right time to entrust him with football operations because his football acumen is really off the charts.”

and then he’ll throw out little anecdotes about how Smolenski was actually the catalyst for something good that happened.

”Don was actually the guy who suggested to Howie that we trade up for Wentz and that won us a Super Bowl, so Don is really a guy who was instrumental in one of the biggest decisions we’ve made as a franchise.”

He wasn’t. Madden fan votes don’t count

It's easier to 'trust the process', if you trust the person that's in charge of the process.

lol what a mess

Ben Simmons for Tua and a 4th.

Because this isn't true.

If only Howie had some skeletons in his closet that would force Lurie's hand....it feels like that's the only way out of this relationship at this point

I can say the person that would least want that promotion is Don Smolenski.  I mean he has the easiest job in the city - marketing and business management for the most popular team in the city. Why he go from that to the most hated, Lurie's bag man.

Just so we can discuss this intelligently, how many games is a reasonable audition?

I don't have a definite answer - perhaps 12 or 13? It would depend on evidence of progress. Able to see and complete passes to the entire field? Progress. Not bailing out of the pocket at the hint of pressure? Progress. I don't know that anyone can assign a firm number, I sure can't. I'm not crazy about flushing Minshew without some evidence gathered while an Eagle that he deserves flushing.

I get the sense Lurie isn’t comfortable unless he has someone as his right hand man who he trusts with undying loyalty. And handing the reins over to Chip probably made him, even more so. He allowed an outsider to win the power struggle, it backfired, and now he’s probably emotionally scarred from it and now obsessively protective of letting anyone he doesn’t fully trust near the controls.

And he loves Don. I just can’t see him giving an outsider the president of football ops title. Would he entrust that power to someone he doesn’t know?

Who are potential GM candidates if the unthinkable happens and Lurie cans Howie?

Depending on how Tua’s hip holds up playing on a hard court, might not be that bad.

As for the 4th, look at Trey Smith G from KC, dude had blood clots in 2018 at TN, missed a little time in 19, then was really good last season, Covid, but he played,  now he’s the top rookie Guard from the 2021 draft and he was taken in the 5th round.  He’d probably be the best interior linemen rookie except for his teammate at C, who run blocks like Kelce.
