You can be the richest owner, but there’s still a salary cap. They’ve wasted up to $10M on Cam this year and are on the hook for almost $19M guaranteed for Darnold next year.

Can't chase the sunk cost of Darnold. Dude is a terrible QB. Horrifically bad allocation of resources, but you gotta figure out something else.

Same difference.   In both cases, the people close to these tone deaf folks and the fashion blind Cam need to tell them... unless they don't really care about the person and get their entertainment from watching them make a fool of themselves.

So you're telling me that he can't notice that literally no one else in the nfl, and probably the world (other than homeless people) dress like that?  Nah, it's a desperate cry for attention.

And they still are.

2015 Cam lives in their brains like SB Foles lives in some Eagles' fans brains.

The fact watson isn’t a top 10 passer is amazing cause he’s a headcase. So cause he’s a headcase that the eagles have tried to acquire means he’s not top 10 QB?. Or that murray is a one trick pony even though they have the best record in the league and he’s top 3 for mvp

We don't even know if Watson will play again (pending criminal proceedings), or whether he'll screw up again. That disqualifies him as a franchise QB, does it not?

Murray is sui generis, he was brought in to run Kingsburry's scheme, whether he'd make it elsewhere? - similar to Lamar Jackson who has an offense build around his skill package.

Obviously, Clinton Portis is his fashion role model.

They are just bringing in Cam because Darnold is injured right?

Probably. But Darnold has been terrible.

Based on their play this season, which is really bad, even by the standard of top draft pick rookie QBs.

Stafford (1) QBR 37.1, ANY/A 3.64.

Carr (36) 40.1/4.82

Burrow (1) 56.2/5.72

Herbert (6) 69.5/6.57

Allen (7) 49.8/5.35

Tannehill (8) 48.4/5.90

Dak (135) 77.6/7.86

Goff (1) 18.3/3.75 (7 games)

Darnold (3) 45.9/5.24

Winston (1) 57.2/6.44

Mac Jones 48.9/5.95

Lawrence 35.8/4.83

Fields 27.4/3.63

Wilson 28.0/3.42

Yeah, it's tough for me to evaluate a QB with just these numbers alone. There are a lot of factors for QB success.

The same courtesies you've afforded Hurts, all the way down to nitpicking the OL protection, deserve to be afforded to Wilson and Lawrence and the other young QBs too.

I saw that tweet, but it doesn't really do much for me. Its 7th most cash because of all the restructures they have done as well as signing guys like Harris and Wilson and giving them big signing bonuses and voidable years. The bad GM'ing point stands but meh.

It's legacy money, basically Cox, Slay and Graham. Barnett is one year.

Hargrave and Kearse is the only new money.

I’m surprised they were in a rush to pick up that option. Pro football talk had the article prior to 2021 the option didn’t convey as fully guaranteed til the first day of the new league year so could pull it. But now as soon as it is exercised it’s fully guaranteed. I would’ve seen how the season played out. If he was playing great could work on an extension. I wouldn’t even used the fifth year option with how it’s now applied. Better off having the franchise tag in your back pocket cause you can maneuver your way out of it if need be. With the 5th year option they are stuck with an 19 mil dead money hit regardless.

I wouldn’t disqualify him from it because the Philadelphia eagles were still trying to trade for him. You will dismiss those rumors at every turn but they clearly were trying.   Additionally because the NFL said they were not going to suspend him for the rest of the year if he was traded to Miami that means he would’ve played this year if he was traded. So I can’t definitively say he’s going to be in prison or not gonna but all I can do is based on how he’s played on the field he was a franchise quarterback that teams still want

i actually tend to think of murray was playing with a better head coach then kingsbury he could be even better. And I’m not even a huge Kyler Murray fan because people on here know I’ve I said I think it’s a little overrated.  You make excuse why these quarterbacks arent as good but if I put Jalen hurts in that same offense do you think he’s doing what Kyler Murray is doing? I highly doubt it.

i agree, Cam's arm is shot and he can't really stay healthy either. I guess the real upside is it might bring fans back to the stadium. I have a friend who is a Panthers season ticket holder. He told me he was heckled out of the stadium this past week against the Patriots. He's sold his tickets to the next three games because he doesn't want to watch them anymore this season. I'm sure he's not the only one. It has to suck seeing more fans of the opposing team in your stadium if you are the owner.

Yup, makes the newton move seem more and more like a publicity stunt.

When they first traded for him, I was like, oh, it makes sense to spend a mid-round pick on him, let him play out this year and reevaluate.

Then it came out it was a 2. Then they picked up the option.

Yikes.

That to me was the biggest problem. If they would’ve given up a 4th or even a 3rd to take the chance ok. Maybe you think it was Adam Gase and the jets and you could turn them around with your coaching and skill position players. If you hit on even a 3rd it’s a great deal. Still a little high for my liking.

But like you said when I saw that was a second and then they picked up the option and it made no sense to me. Why are you committing to a guy that you might believe can be that what has never really proven that. Just let it play itself out to give yourself the Wiggle room to move on if need be. They compounded the 2nd round pick mistake by doubling down on exercising the option.

That’s the problem that I have. So last year and the year before when everyone was calling out wentz washers for making excuses of why his performance isn’t better. We didn’t wanna hear the excuses.

But now we’re willing to make the excuses for hurts but we will just ignore these other QBs have their situations and some even worse scenarios but they just suck. No excuses.

When they get their performance up to top twenty levels, I'll do so.

Stafford did turn it around, but he's the exception, usually good young QBs show something as rookies to build upon.

Wentz for example, 46.7/5.58, not great numbers, but showed enough to give hope he could improve.

Cam and River boat ron are the most overated QB/HC duo in history.

They had 1 year... literally one year of success and people think theyre great.

Cam is 53-55-1 with out that year along with 155TD and 118Ints'

Ron as a head coach is 70-78 with a 1-4 playoff record

He's 85-78-1 and 3-5 in the playoffs. He would have had to win more than one playoff game to get to the Super Bowl.

I don't think he's amazing but he's fine relatively speaking.

I don't take these rumors seriously for a couple of reasons.

One, all GMs call about almost every player, it's called "due diligence." That's not the same as "trying to trade for him." Big difference between a phone call and serious negotiations. For example Howie may have simply been looking at what they wanted if the legal problems were resolved.

Two, Houston has a strong interest in exaggerating interest in Watson, so they'd be slipping "information" to favored reporters, trying to start rumors.

I'm not sold on Watson as a franchise QB, if you mean top 5 or so. To me he's no different than post-SB Wentz, as never elevated the Houston offense - ranked 17, 11, 14, 18 in points scored in his four seasons there with decent talent on offense (middle of the road). Hurts has the Eagles at 13 without an all pro WR. I expect more from a franchise QB.

Luck and Rivers had Indy at 5th and 9th in points scored, Wentz has them at 8th, they fell to 16th with Brissett.

Maybe so, but they do need a qb to get them through until their starter is back and if they have the cap  money this year what's the difference?

yes, and if you take away that 1 year..the outlier year... he's 70-78-1 and 1-4

It’s just another example of how they mismanaged their QB position with wasted money. They’ve somehow downgraded from Teddy Bridgewater by spending a 2 and up to $30M in cap space on Darnold and Cam. That doesn’t even count the dead money they took to trade their better QB to Denver.

The Panthers burned up $17M in cap space just to trade away Bridgewater. They guaranteed Darnold’s salary for $18M next year after trading a 2/4 for him. Cam can make up to $10M this year when there were no other legitimate suitors.

Brutal mismanagement.

Now figure out how much they paid CMC to just miss games
