If roles were reversed than that would have been a defender trying to make a tackle.

Neither had the ball

I would disagree. I mean yeah sure if he drafts an elite defence that's going to help this team. But Lurie wants a creative and exciting offense and so there's going to be some pressure to go get a QB I think.

on the "getting a qb", the pressure to get one is rightly so, whether they draft one high, or go get a vet, the hurts experiment has failed, we actually have a decent core of recievers, well 2 anyway, so its time to get them a passer

I'm not sure I'd say the Hurts experiment has failed. He was never drafted to be the starter.

maybe, maybe not, I know they werent expecting wentz to implode, so you're probably right, but I like smith and watkins, 2 good wr's imo, just need a decent qb now

Add Gallup to that group and it would be pretty good.  Or, as a few others have suggested, Mike Williams if he makes it to FA.

So I'm in Delaware an hour from Philly and I get Seahawks and Packers over the eagles game. What fing sense does that make?

Lowie literally came out and said the Eagles want to be a "QB factory" and people still think we're going to focus on defense?

Come on people, we're either drafting a QB with our 1st pick or trading the farm for Wilson.

That's not what he meant by QB factory.  You lost the context of that quote.

It's so Howie can scout Rodgers and Wilson at a quiet bar in Delaware.

The team needs defensive young talents.  DL and CB are the thin areas.  Using some of the top picks on these would be wise to build the roster.

QB is an important position.  Is Hurts the one to carry the team?  At this point, not convinced he is the guy yet.  Trading for a veteran QB to start, e.g. Wilson, will cost a lot and limited service years.  If they draft a young QB, it would be couple of seasons before he can take over.  It is still the better option though.  Keep Hurts until the young QB is ready to start.  At which point, Hurts could have some credential and moving him would get something back to the team.  Lurie's idea of a QB factory will be partially served.

Hill would be my top S , followed by Brisker , I’m not on the Hamilton hype train

While he hasn't looked great tonight,  A&M QB Zach Calzada is going to be a top pick next year.  Serious arm talent and great size at 6-4 210.  If Howie can refuse blowing his load this year on getting a QB and holding out until next year that would be so much better for the franchise.  I'd really prefer riding Minshew next year, not because he's the answer but because he's the better QB to help the Eagles WR develop.

He sure will be , I said this weeks ago about him , and he has a good teacher in jimbo

Obviously, I hate how right I am about Franklin.

Well, your post stuck in my mind. I did have to go rummaging for it, I admit.

@LeanMeanGM

Eagles - 20

Broncos - 16

Broncos gain less than 300 yards of offense.

Gannon was completely embarrassed last week. I think he changes up some things (similar to the TB game) and the defense looks good against a bad offense.

I'm sure it has failed.  It was a moronic move when it happened, and we've reaped the harvest on that stupid ever since.

No matter what, I can't see Howie drafting a first round safety. I don't think they put that much of a value on it.  I think the 2nd round is about as high as they would draft one. I don't really agree with it because I want the best players possible at positions we need.

Maybe Howie should listen to the f’n DC and value the positions that he says are needs suspect a secondary coach, like Gannon was, probably values a S.  When they paid so much for Jenkins and McLeod, they justified it by saying how much they valued Ss.  I have been pounding the table for Ss every draft for a few years now.  In fact my reaction to Wallace was, while not the S that I wanted drafted, at least Howie finally drafted a S.  This is a position he went too long not addressing as McLeod started getting hurt and Jenkins could only play a SS/linebacker role. The best FS candidates will go early and he needs to pull the trigger.  Frankly, at this point, he needs Ss more than CBs. Epps will do as a #3 but really he is FS that plays downhill like a SS. Wallace is an undersized S that is best in the box but a little lacking in instincts. The Ss that can play single high and cover are probably limited to four in this draft.  Would be criminal if he doesn’t get one of them.   (Hopefully Howie is fired after this season or promoted to the CFO, so we can have a GM that values positions that help win football games and he can spend his days on spreadsheets from ticket sales.)

Well 8 more games to go, with 9 weeks till the regular season ends.    We back on the road again which is good because the Eagles have been playing much better on the Road.  This is our 14th matchup against the Broncos.  We lead the series 8-5 all Time.    This Broncos team just dismantled Dallas last week.   It was 30-0 going into the 4th and Broncos D completely let up off the gas and let Dallas score a quick 2 TD's so it looked a little more respectable.   But Dallas hasn't beaten the Broncos since I was a teenage in the 90's.   They just don't match up well with them historically.  The Flipside is the Eagles haven't won in Denver since was under 10 in the late 80's.   I respect the Broncos Defense and Teddy is a pretty good QB.   We will have to battle but I think the can pull the upset today.  Broncos might be overlooking us with a Bye week for them coming.

I am convinced the Eagles ultimately go OL, DL and QB in the first if they use all three picks.

I like Brisker, but I haven't seen much of Hill.

What do you think of Jermaine Johnson, DE from FSU?  Do you think he sneaks into the first round? I believe he would be a great pick in the second.

He rolls his ankle, plus leg sweeps Burns’s other leg, that’s a take down, not a tackle.

Also, Burns and Jones have history that goes back to being High School rivals.

The furthest thing from a dirty play.  It's comical.

I’d love nothing more than for Hurts to take a miraculous jump the last half of the season, but I don’t see it happening.

It doesn’t make sense. I’m southern Delaware but this year the only thing that over takes Eagles games are Ravens. Why does the Seahawks/Packers override us? Doesn’t make sense.

And let's not forget... They went Smith because 1) he was probably BPA at #11 but 2) they failed to address the WR properly the year before with Reagor.

I think they went Smith because both Horn and Surtain were gone tbh.

And Dawk wasn't  a 1st rounder. There isn't a precedence set of them going safety in Round 1.  It's just like LB.  1979 since a true LB.  They value OL, DL, QB in Round 1 and recently WR.  I'm pretty sure we go QB and DL in Round 1.  And, we probably trade one of our firsts into 2023 and get a mid round pick in addition for doing it.  I will be shocked if the Eagles use all 3 first rounders in 2022.

There is nothing wrong with tiering talent selections but they also have to look at (1) the available talent; (2) positions where the available talent is lesser in a given draft, say QB in 2023; (3) the individual’s talent as ranked not only in the draft but also in the NFL.

Ideally, you want a FS type on your team.  Player needs to have size, bigger than 6’ and in the 200s but not to heavy.  The player needs speed.  Hate 4.6 Ss.  Preferably 4.4 speed or faster but instincts may be more important.  T J Edwards like instincts.  Dawk, Reed had those type instincts plus speed.  Not just straight line speed.  S must have a good 3 cone and short shuttle.  Needs agility.  Would like fluid enough hips to play man, if possible but less if a need at S than corner. But I don’t want a S that can only play downhill.  The S must be able to play the angles.   Coach used to say, put yourself where the other player is most likely to be.  That means a bit of a film junkie.  Study the plays and players for tells, tendencies. Ballhawking would be nice but that usually comes with the rest. Now those players are rare.  And key, the S has to be able to tackle.  It is not a finesse position.  Coach said, they call it safety for a reason.  Last line of defense. The safety is the assurance to the other ten players that somebody has their back

There can be drafts with no FS candidates and rarely more than a few.  Three (candidates), maybe four, in this draft.  So maybe some might slide to second day but that is a gamble.

A great FS can change how the entire back 7 plays.

If the Eagles finish day one with two picks and one is a QB in 2022, then the GM failed.

If the team has talent and $$$ Howie is less of an impediment.   From what I gather $$$ and winning top the list of most players.  They can put up with a lot of incompetent people (players, management) if they are winning and getting paid.  I feel the same way.

That makes us a player then and the team has a chance for a quick turnaround.

Related to your other comment above, I don't know about the draft part.  The hard part about analyzing this QB draft crop is that they are all playing for teams that don't traditionally land premium talent around them.  Both Pickett and Howell looked like NFL talent in that last game, even though their games are drastically different.  If the Eagles stretched for a QB,  it could be worse than Corral, Pickett, or Willis.  As we know, QB is always overdrafted and I think 5 go in Round 1.  That said, I don't think QB is where they go.

I think D-line and CB are where to go early in the drat.  I agree on the Kyle Hamilton comments.  Name the last big, freak athlete safety to come in and dominate...especially taken high in the draft.

I'd love PSU's Ji’Ayir Brown and the safety class is very deep.  They will be able to find a safety in round 2 or 3.

Now, if they can get Hutchinson with the Miami pick and Hamilton in the teens with their own pick or the Colts pick that would make a lot more sense.

FS class isn’t that deep.
