I’m in Laurel so pretty close to you. Yeah I guess their are some Rodgers lovers here lol. But I’m sure a Rodgers Wilson matchup will always be better than a Hurts Bridgewater matchup to most NFL fans lol.

At least my wife's cowboys aren't on either. Spending the day getting a dog a bath and looking at property to buy lol

So, folks don’t seem to see much similarity between Hamilton and Chancellor. I sure do.

Agreed

if anything Hamilton is better in coverage. Could be a sean taylor

He just trolls with terrible takes, and if one actually comes to fruition he thinks it makes him look smarter and well researched than others.

If all people, Kyle Hamilton is the wrong guy to bet against. He seems like a slightly better prospect than Derwin James. Hamilton is the prototype 2020’s safety. Plus, we need him in this system.

Maybe Howie should listen to the f’n DC and value the positions that he says are needs suspect a secondary coach, like Gannon was, probably values a S.  When they paid so much for Jenkins and McLeod, they justified it by saying how much they valued Ss.  I have been pounding the table for Ss every draft for a few years now.  In fact my reaction to Wallace was, while not the S that I wanted drafted, at least Howie finally drafted a S.  This is a position he went too long not addressing as McLeod started getting hurt and Jenkins could only play a SS/linebacker role. The best FS candidates will go early and he needs to pull the trigger.  Frankly, at this point, he needs Ss more than CBs. Epps will do as a #3 but really he is FS that plays downhill like a SS. Wallace is an undersized S that is best in the box but a little lacking in instincts. The Ss that can play single high and cover are probably limited to four in this draft.  Would be criminal if he doesn’t get one of them.   (Hopefully Howie is fired after this season or promoted to the CFO, so we can have a GM that values positions that help win football games and he can spend his days on spreadsheets from ticket sales.)

Actually, me suspects this year was all about evaluation on defense, given the awful string of backup QBs they faced last year, Gannon probably struggled to trust what he was seeing on film. Now that he's played everyone, and look for the PS guys to get promoted after the bye week, he can go to Howie and go, keep, keep, drop kick, leave by the curb, . . .

Defense is as much about depth and fit as blue chippers (that is, teams will attack your weakest point, so a blue chipper can get very bored if you have major holes), so this may be a good reason to trade down from one of their 1st rd picks and pick up additional ammunition in the first 4 rounds or so. This team needs more speed and athleticism on defense.

I think Hamilton goes top 5, so the Eagles might be out of luck.  I don't mind Daxton Hill at all, but he's not on Hamilton's level.

Both over drafted. Allen had all the tools but lacked instincts.   Jarrett was a huge overreach.  I do worry about the success of UDFAs and their late round S choices as skewing their view but Coleman, Poyer, even Mikell shouldn’t factor into evaluation.  Those guys were and, in the case of Poyer, are holding positions, not difference makers.

Mikell ended up making a pro bowl not bad for an UDFA.

Coleman had Some success after leaving the eagles and I'd take poyer over any if the slop on the eagles roster now.

Not everyone can be Dawkins but a solid capable safety they can.

That makes us a player then and the team has a chance for a quick turnaround.

Related to your other comment above, I don't know about the draft part.  The hard part about analyzing this QB draft crop is that they are all playing for teams that don't traditionally land premium talent around them.  Both Pickett and Howell looked like NFL talent in that last game, even though their games are drastically different.  If the Eagles stretched for a QB,  it could be worse than Corral, Pickett, or Willis.  As we know, QB is always overdrafted and I think 5 go in Round 1.  That said, I don't think QB is where they go.

Evaluation of QBs is so tricky.  Guys like Hurts, Tua, Fields, et al to name a few recent QBs surrounded by talent in College and yet don't look like they can get into the top tier of NFL QBs.  I'm sure there will be a QB or two from this draft that end up being really good pros, but I can't say which one(s) it will be.

I don't want them to go QB but I'm nervous they will.

If you have a couple top players scattered throughout your defense, you can surround them with solid starters.

Edwards is fine if Taylor can take a step up and same with Avery or his replacement, enough speed on the outside so Edwards can focus on stopping the run, then leave the field on obvious passing downs.

Gannon likes a lot of zone, so you don't need great CBs, but you do need faster safeties that can play closer to the LOS and still provide deep help. And he likes that CB/S hybrid who can stop the run from the NCB position.

And you need to rotate 8 D-men in today's NFL.

They're around 20th on defense despite playing a conservative scheme with limited personnel, add 2-3 starters and 2-3 solid reserves and this defense can make a big jump.

Hits harder? Based on what , the eyeball test ?

Heard the same think with Simmons  , lot of NFL Ss can cover the slot , play the run and pass , line up outside

hamilton hasn’t  reinvented the position

If we're being honest, Micah Parsons was the BPA.  You can argue he was the BPA in the entire draft.  Yes, he had some minor character concerns but hardly anything to take him off a draft board IMO.  He's a cornerstone piece for a defense for the next decade.  He's a guy you build around.

Years of failed draft picks forced the Eagles to draft Smith.  He's a fine player but he also has his limitations and his production is 100% dependent on the QB position.  WR's are accessory pieces.  You don't build around them.  You build around the QB and the line.  What good is a good WR if you can't get him the ball?  Since 2017 they drafted Mack Hollins, Shelton Gibson JJAW, Reagor, Hightower and Watkins.  None of them have produced and it put them in a position in 2021 to not only draft Smith but trade up to take him.

The more and more I think about it, the more pissed I am that the Eagles let the Cowboys get Parsons.  OK, if they pass on Smith he goes to the Giants.  Again, what good is Smith going to be if Daniel Jones was his QB?

Yup Ive said multiple times since the draft and before that I thought Parsons was one of the best players in all the draft and i thought he could be at eagles pick but Howie would never draft a LB in the first.

As you said if Howie hadn't failed at WR the two previous years he would have been in better position to take Parsons instead of another WR.

Jefferson metcalfe and Parsons would look much better than reagor Smith and JJAW.

I’d put Lloyd and Smith in that conversation too.

Depends who’s picking in the top 5.

Thibodeaux will likely go No.1. Texans need a QB bad, Jets could go in any direction, so can the Jags but they need a tackle in the worst way possible with Robinson not the aswer and hitting FA, WFT will be in the QB market.

Although a blue chip prospect, he might slip out of the top 5. Probably not but it’s possible...

Yeah all that to just say we need 4-6 new players on defense

It really should be; the draft capital is there.  Just need to ask the coaches to put a wish list together of the traits they need and tell your scouting department to match names to the list.

Howie has already been doing this. Sure we have more draft capital this year, but it’s not like he’s been doing a great job with our first and second round picks.

Maybe lots can, but they’re not on this team. The game is evolving, IMHO. A really good safety is more valuable in a zone scheme than a good corner.

Ugh...can you imagine?

You could even say Metcalf, Lamb (assuming the pick 53 rumors) and Parsons or Metcalf, Jefferson, Chinn and Parsons.

Any 3 of those combinations are worlds better than what the Eagles have now.
