He spent a few of his life living in the Greater Philadelphia area, not the city proper. His father was a professional athlete and the family lived in multiple places when Kobe was growing up. He's definitely a local, just not a native of the city or lived here for a significant amount of his life.

I get it, Kobe is an all-timer and he's from Philly but his career was made in LA winning with one of the most easy franchises to hate with the Lakers.  I don't hate Kobe, again I just don't understand the lovefest with him.

Sure, he died tragically but the way the Eagles go out of their way to promote him just doesn't make all that much sense to me.

It’s easy, he’s a legend plain and simple. And not just in basketball, in all sports history. And he was an Eagles fan, so I understand the franchises willingness to promote him.
