True.  But Brooks' contract is a mess.  $19M cap hit in 2022.  $15M in dead money if he's released.  It wouldn't be a disaster if Brooks decided to stay healthy next year.  He's still pretty good.  Better than Driscoll.

Healthy Brooks is the best OG in the NFL. How soon they forget. A freak of nature.

If they get Brooks back by the bye, they could run for 200 yards a game the last four weeks.

The Barnett pick was made with the selection that got from the Vikings for Bradford. It wasn't our own original pick.

Given our current situation, it's somewhat ironic that the Eagles' original pick ended up being used by the Texans for Deshaun Watson.

Wont need brooks by then just shut him down to get healthy

but draft the Green kid and look out next year

We haven't seen that guy for nearly two seasons, and are not likely to see him again.  That was him at 30.  He's now 32.  Do 32 year olds have a strong track record of quick and complete healing?  Nope.  Do 32 year olds have a history of maintaining their play at the elite level (even on the OL)?  Nope.  How quickly you assume that he's just going to step back in at that same level, after missing almost an entire 2 years of football.

Best to move on from Brooks and let the young guys play.

Why move on if you dont have to? His upside could still be there

Not really.  We know who Cousins is.  And he's a guy who racks up stats but can't win.  One week doesn't make a career.

he said nothing during that discussion. Cousins finally wins a big game this year he makes the comment. So if he puts up hallow stats against GB when getting destroyed this week are allowed to go back to not thinking he’s top 10 because his stats have been somewhat hallow in some of his bigger games and he gets some inflated numbers? Cousins this year is exactly what I’ve talked about. Good against cincy and Arizona. Then bad against Cleveland and Dallas (ravens game he was good to start then second half he did next to nothing outside of their last drive of that half after blowing a 14 point lead). Then good once again against the chargers.

He’s what i said feasts on bad teams (credit to the lions he didn’t completely kill them), seattle (who’s not very good this year) and Carolina (with darnold and no cmc). Plays well against a couple good teams and then reverts to bad in the other couple games. Usually in the bad games he gets hallow stats cause they are getting destroyed late in the game. This year they’ve been close even when he wasn’t very good like Dallas. Before this week he was outside of the top 10 in passing yards. Coincidentally the Vikings besides the Seahawks game have all been decided by 7 points or less.

just to point out, so hurts was 7th overall in total yards. Meanwhile Hurts is also 19th in passing yards and 29th in completion percent. It’s why i said in a later post I’d rank him somewhere form 17-23 in the league (before last Sundays game against the the broncos). So I’m supposed to praise him for one stat and and ignore context. But if i bring up the other it means i hate him. Even though we know there’s context behind both of those stats that’s obviously missing

Profootballnetwork has a write up about him:

https://www.profootballnetwork.com/david-ojabo-michigan-de-nfl-draft-scouting-report-2022/

They think he's working his way into the 1st Round.  He was born in Nigeria in 2000 then moved to Scotland in 2007.  Came to the US during his HS years and was on the track team and didn't start playing football until 2017.  So he's only been playing for 5 years.  In fact, this is his first full season of college football.  He was on the Michigan scout team in 2019 where he was named Scout Team Player Of The Year.  He played all 6 games in 2020, mostly on ST, and earned Academic All Big Ten Honours.  So he's both an athletic freak and smart.  He models his game after Chandler Jones.  Thedraftnetwork, when you do their mock, has him rated as a late 1st Round pick.

So a fairly raw player with a high ceiling.  It is a good point as to how much of his production is helped by having Hutchinson across from him.  Still, I'd be fine taking him with our last 1st Round pick (probably the Colts pick).

Another player I like is Minnesota RT Daniel Faalele:

https://www.profootballnetwork.com/daniel-faalele-minnesota-ot-nfl-draft-scouting-report-2022/

He's 6'9" 380 and like Mailata is a former rugby player from Australia.  Probably a bit stronger than Mailata, but not quite as athletic.  He also has that nasty edge on the field from playing rugby like Mailata has.  The difference is this kid is in his 3rd season of playing RT for Minnesota so he's ahead of the curve in his development.  Imagine Stoutland coaching him up the way he did Mailata and having these 2 behemoths as our OTs for the next decade.  Grab this kid now, let him work on his technique under Stoutland and be Lane's understudy.  He'll be ready to takeover in 2024, sooner if needed.

Faalele is a waist bender, not near as quick as Mailata or Dillard and grabs too much.

Most college OL are getting good technique training for the first time in their lives at college.  Lane Johnson was a QB and a pretty good one in HS. He went to Kilgore, known more for their dance team, as a freshman and played QB and TE.  He transferred to Oklahoma and redshirted.  His sophomore year, he played TE and DE. Johnson didn’t move to the OL until his junior year.  So Faalele has one more year playing OL at D1 than Lane.  And he went to IMG before college.

Not "quite as athletic” as Jordan?  Faalele ran a 5.62 40 and a 5.14 short shuttle at 395 lbs at IMG. That’s Matt Pryor glacial.  Jordan ran a 5.12 forty with a 4.67 short shuttle at 345 lbs. and he learned the quick side step from JP.  Now Jordan isn’t as athletic as Lane or even Dillard but he is much closer to them than Faalele is to him.

Not sure you can teach Faalele to knee bend, not overreach and grab at this point.

The best part of that is that it's two guys that both take their craft seriously, and can flip their brain to use what they know about their technique to try to emulate the other position.   Alphas?  Sure.  But, really a couple of workaholics who have fun while they work... and compete.

It's good to see. As much as this may be a PR stunt, it looks like it is Reagor there with them.

Because they have to.  His upside?   His upside is gone now.  All that's left is the remnant.  Didn't we watch this already play out with Jason Peters?    Why pay him $13.4M in salary to sit on IR for a 3rd consecutive season?

Nah... it looked like Reagor was that kid trying to hang with the cool kids and was just out of place.

Or Guffman.

It is.  Smith has to tell Reagor to step back so he can see the ball and he does, only to fade back in the way.  Lack of attention in Reagor doesn’t surprise me.  Fact that Slay can use route running moves and that Smith can cover isn’t a surprise.  That kind of discipline to their craft, yet Reagor can’t show the discipline as to where to stand.

Howie’s 2021 draft picks have had some really good success this year. Almost all the players have shown positive things this year, it’s encouraging

It’s amazing what happens when you stick to the draft board that’s setup for you by your scouting department after months and months of work.

Agree on all points. I commented on him a month or so ago. He can’t fire out, he’s ponderous, and he has absolutely no lateral agility. No agility at all. In fact. Hard pass even as an undrafted free agent. I don’t think even Stoutland can do anything with him.

Looking at mock drafts and tinkering with draft simulators, seems there are quite a few intriguing DEs to be had RDs 2-5.

Question:

Is it absolutely necessary to come away with a DE early in the 1st round?

I'm leaning towards the camp of trade back with one of those three 1st RDers and target a DE like Sanders or Ojabo late in the round.

Look for some mid round gems at the position in players like Tyreke Smith, Isaiah Thomas, Ali Gaye.

Ideal scenario would be Hamilton, Leal/Davis, and Sanders/Ojabo in the 1st with additional early 2023 picks added.

I definitely think it’s important to get get an impactful defensive lineman early in the draft, and it also fits the bill of Eagles draft history so I think it’s very likely, not to mention there’s a decent amount of blue chip defensive linemen prospects so far that I do hope the Eagles take advantage of it. The long term outlook for DL isn’t that great. You have Sweat and Milton and that’s about it. Barnett will and should be gone. Hargrave is great but only couple more years on his deal, will be 30 at end of his deal. Cox & Graham are both at end of their careers. So I do think it’s a good time and would be smart to take a DL early given talent available, extra draft capital, and no QB worth picking at this time.

BPA all the way. We're rebuilding, not trying to fill one or two holes for a SB run.

Brooks is only 32, his injury this year is unrelated to his achilles, just bad luck.

He missed 6 games in 7 seasons before the last two years.

Given the history of elite guards, he could have 3 top seasons left in him.

That's what the VP of Player Personnel and Director of Scouting get paid the big bucks to answer.  What is the dropoff in talent from Hutchinson/Karlaftis/Drake Jackson to Sanders/Ojabo/Jermaine Johnson?

I'd say the future at DE and S looks bleak, so the Eagles should address both positions as early as possible -- JMO, though.

Right now my train of thought for first round is:

Hutchinson

Kenyon Green

any DB

According to Dane Brugler, Ojabo is starting to look like a top 20 guy. He also had Trayvon Walker DE Georgia ranked #9 on his top 50 he dropped a week ago

Best part of the Lions tie is that same tie might keep the Steelers out of the playoffs

Champagne for a tie? Sparking grape juice maybe .....
