end sentence right there. if he got 15-20 carries per game he'd be on the IR after the first game

That’s an entirely different issue.  Obviously if he can’t average those types of carries because of injury then that will be taken into account when it’s time to resign him.  No team will pay premium money for a RB that can’t stay healthy.  So if anything, it will drop the amount of money he could command on the free agent market, etc.

More fun with Hurts #s, this from The Ringer:

The past three weeks have proven that relying on a successful run game can be effective when it’s focused around a mobile passer, especially someone as good at running as Hurts is. Over that span, Hurts owns the highest deep-pass rate (24.1 percent), is fourth among passers in intermediate completion rate (73.3 percent), and ranks third in average depth of target (11.8). He’s completed 66.7 percent of his passes over the stretch, keying a significant jump in his overall completion rate. This year, Hurts is converting 10 percent more of his attempts than he did in 2020, while other behavioral metrics have been relatively stable.

Jalen Hurts’s Advanced Passing Numbers

Year Comp % Expected Comp % Catchable % On-Target % ADOT Tight-Window %
2021 62.2 +0.6 85.5 75.5 8.7 14.9
2020 52.0 -3.4 82.0 72.1 8.3 14.2
Data via Next Gen Stats, Sports Info Solutions

Play-action has been crucial for Hurts. Over the last three weeks, he’s completed 83.3 percent (fourth) of his throws off play-action while posting 12.3 yards per attempt (tied for fourth). On non-play-action passes, he’s completed only 58.3 percent of his throws (35th) and posted a YPA of 6.2 (24th). That leaves plenty of room for the 23-year-old to improve, but Sirianni has done well by gearing his offense to highlight Hurts’s strengths. He’s capable of making accurate throws downfield with ease.

Not sure, you'd prob have to get into football outsiders or PFF perhaps to find that? I don't have a sub to either...

And to think a month ago people were saying Sirianni shouldn't be calling more run plays instead of RPO and that Jalen Hurts wouldn't be able to do effective play action if more actual run plays were called.

He can't handle that. What in your mind would suggest he could? And, are you suggesting we purposefully overload him with carries, knowing it will injure him, to deflate his value on the market? Do you understand how crazy that sounds?

Man 4.png

I just kept the last image.

Looking at the play design, one could interpret a scramble as one the "reads".

If you see man and can't hit either of the crossers, escape the pocket to the left.  Almost all of the routes take defenders to the right.

For now.  2 Super Bowl appearances in the last 2 years with 1 Lombardy says it works.

Its not working this year

So they both suck?

Yes, but one is free and the other was 150 million and crying. So you take the free one that sucks in the meantime while you look for a real one.

Nobody wanted Wentz but the Colts for a reason. Look what Stafford at his age pulled in and then look at the conditional 1 we got for Wentz.

I wouldn't count the Chiefs out just yet. They've been fighting thru the Super Bowl hangover, but may have finally consumed enough gatorade to get up and make a day of things.

How many times have we seen the team that gets hot in December surge thru the playoffs? If the Chiefs can get hot in the next few weeks, I don't think I'd want to face them in the playoffs at all.

I am considering building a bean trellis for the tomatillos next year. Need to read more on growing them.  Zucchini are getting a separate bed next spring where they can shade all they want and not impact any other plants.  My mother trellised her zucchini but I always accounted that to if you don’t keep squash off the ground in Houston because of how wet the soil gets, they rot quickly.   While I have no issue with that I do wonder if a little discipline might help those.  Have you ever grown any other squashes?  I have done pumpkins.  Like watermelons, they aren’t productive enough to warrant the amount of ground needed.

I've done pumpkins, butternut and zucchini.  As a kid my dad and I grew white squash and yellow squash.

Sent you a PM with some information about trellising Zukes.  I was going to do it this past year, but missed my window to plant due to work travel.

Zucchinis are triffids. They take over everything.

Is there any update on Brooks? Is there any projection for when he may return? I know it's foolish to count on anything from him going forward, but....if he can return and stay healthy (unlikely, but not impossible), the O-line could just be unreal.

I haven't seen a thing.  I'd say the opposite.  The line is really coming together now.  Driscoll is by far the least talented of the starting 5 but do you want to mess up all of that chemistry in hopes that Brooks can put together a string of healthy games?

I'm just playing devils advocate because Brooks is far superior and the starter if he's healthy.

Yes. If Brooks is healthy enough to play, he starts. If he can stay healthy and regain his form (which is asking a lot, admittedly, and I'd likely wager against it), this line becomes out of this world with the stable of RB's we have and a commitment to running the ball. Brooks upside is enough to take the chance of upsetting the chemistry, IMO. He, Lane, and Kelce have played enough together that I think they'd figure it out real quick.

That’s truly frightening.

It's really scary how calm her reaction is.

From Sheil at The Athletic:

The key? Hurts is a really, really efficient runner. Check out how he compares to Lamar Jackson. These are designed runs and scrambles (with kneel-downs removed).

Rushing: Lamar Jackson vs. Jalen Hurts
PLAYER RUSHES YARDS YPC SUCCESS RATE
102
642
6.3
51.7%
86
555
6.5
59.6%

Their styles are completely different. Jackson is more elusive, and Hurts is more physical. But the numbers are similar (although Hurts has played one more game). Both players have 20 runs of 10-plus yards. Jackson has five carries of 20-plus; Hurts has four.

Hurts has the highest rushing success rate among the 40 players with at least 75 carries. We can extend the sample to include last season. Among the 77 players with at least 100 rushes over the past two seasons, Hurts ranks second in success rate behind only Josh Allen. He’s averaging a whopping 6.3 YPC during that stretch.

As a team this year, the Eagles have run for 1,443 yards (second), and they lead the NFL in success rate.

What I notice about Hurts runs are he never seems to really get hit or at least hit in a bad way.

Mailata, Dickerson, Kelce, Brooks, Lane. If all 5 are healthy, that's a big time line.

Yea, I was going to bring that up to.  Probably way too much overthinking on my part.  The only real question is if Brooks can stay healthy.

It's insane the holes the team has been opening in the running game already while missing a talent like Brooks. Elite unit.

Saints are going to be a really interesting test though. Their run D is really good

Yep, Saints are 1st in DVOA I think against the rush. A great test for our new styled offense.

Yup, if the Eagles can run the ball down the Saints Defense's throat, they can do it against any team in the league.

Lattimore will be a helluva test for Smith too. They match up really well vs out new look offense. Great test for us.

They’re also poor against the pass. It’s going to be interesting to see the offensive game plan this week.

Yep.  And still no reason to abandon the run.  That was my argument during the Bucs game.  Play your game.  This team isn’t good enough to try and adapt to what the other team is doing.  They obviously can only win one way.

Seems like it, unless Hurts and the other receivers take a step forward. Having to account for the run game sets up Hurts for big runs. Having to account for the run game and Hurts limits coverage options.

Take away the run and I don't see them turning into a precision pass unit all of a sudden. But like Toronto said, if we can run on the Saints we can run on anyone.

Probably not his fault. His ride took him to a bar instead of the testing place

It's puzzling, Lowie went out of their way to make this a pass heavy team, and in the process of doing so might have inadvertently made it into a running juggernaut.

Talk about found gold.

It's like this.

When I drunkenly eat pepperoni and crackers in bed, I know I'm going to wake up in crumbs.

Do what you know. Worry about the consequences tomorrow.

Run the ball. It's been working.

We don’t know that.  There are players that have the "injury bug” for a few seasons then don’t get injured again (or barely) the rest of their careers.  We don’t know unless we try.  And I guarantee you Sanders wants to be given as many carries as possible every game.
