To be clear, you’re really trying to support your argument that he’s not living up to the hype based on…

* One or two people might have said something crazy about how good he’d be as a rookie.

* If you take away the just turned 21-year-old’s two monster games (out of the only 10 he’s played) his numbers aren’t good.

* He’d only be on a 1,016-yard pace if it were a 16-game season.

This is pretty weak.

It was way more than two people who are making those projections. Nearly everyday we had at least 3 to 4 people coming on here saying that he was going to hit the ground running and be that type of impact player form day one and year one like Jefferson was. There was definitely more than one or two people making a proclamation. And I was not Kyle Pitts sucks or isn’t going to be a great tight end eventually. I just had to read through pages of it nearly every day where both sides used hyperbole. There was definitely more than 2 both ways

Again you said you had a 1100 yards this year. I just provided to you that he wouldn’t be an 1100 yards if they didn’t play 17th game. I also never said 1000 yards means he sucks or is awful. And the reason why I brought up that 1000 in yards is last year i brought it up as a good barometer for a receiving threat. I told by some on here in a 16 game season with the rule changes 1000 yards isn’t as great of an accomplishment as it used to be.

I also said rookie tight ends almost always tend to struggle their rookie year to live up to the hype. I made a generalized statement that i feel like almost All rookie right ends tend to struggle to live up to the hype, which has held true for many high first round tight ends.

No one‘s taking away what he did against the Jets and the dolphins. What I am telling you is that nearly 50% of his production has come in two games against two of the worst teams in the league. All I’m saying is that is a pretty significant production in two games as compared to his other 8.

I fully expected next week against Jacksonville to absolutely destroy that team. And he still has the lions. So expect him to destroy them as well

Until 1964, Texas A&M was all male and required enlisting in the Corp (ROTC).   Sam Houston was a teacher’s college and primarily women.  It is located in Huntsville, just up the road from College Station.  Well the "Good Ags” had a nickname for the location and the H was replaced with the handle of your mug.  The Sam Houston Institute of Technology joke was around when I was at A&M in 1974/75.  If you ever drive I45 by Huntsville, you can appreciate the giant statue of Sam Houston they put by the freeway.

( Fun trivia fact.  From East Tennessee where Sam Houston was from he went to Oklahoma where he was made a member of the Cherokee Nation.  He was a notorious drunk at that part of his life and the Cherokee referred to him as The Raven because his drunk stumbling reminded them of how a raven walks.  I chuckle that the team from Baltimore adopted that name.

I appreciate learning from others as I know I don't know everything.  So thanks for that Texas education.  When you mention a raven, however, my identification to my Irish ancestry and all things Olde Celtic Pagan make me think of the Morrigan, the Goddess of War and Death.  I also have Native America roots so can appreciate the reference to him stumbling like a raven, though they are the most intelligent of the avians, with their ability to use tools and learn and adapt from previous behaviours.

From what I remember, Pitts wasn’t even supposed to be a TE and was going to be the next Mike Evans.

That’s right it was Mike Evans because he could play WR but could also play tight end. Sorry my bad. It wasn’t kelce.

Again I’m not saying Kyle Pitts played bad or poorly. what I said was I feel like almost all rookie tight ends never live up to the hype they had coming out in their rookie years. And that’s held true a good portion of the time with tight ends were drafted in the top 20

It definitely was more than just 1-2 people boasting about what he could do immediately in the nfl.

No, we all said he was going to have a rookie season like Randy Moss except he would block like prime Jason Peters.

I know it wasn’t you but the Mike Evans comps were thrown out and about a lot in here.

Meh. It’s a comp based on potential, physical attributes and how a player wins. I don’t see an issue. The guy went fourth overall. He’s a TE with high-level WR skills. He’s going to have some high-end comps.

I’m pushing back against the notion that Pitts is somehow not having a really impressive rookie season at a position that notoriously is slow to develop in the NFL. I don’t remember anyone, and certainly not many, expecting Pitts to dominate like Kelce or Evans or Jefferson as a rookie. Maybe a few did.

He’s playing all over the formation. He’s an X, a Z, a slot, an in-line TE (although not often), and is on pace for nearly 1,100 in an efficient manner. And he turned 21 a month ago.

I don’t even think it’s all his fault for some of the issues Atlanta is having getting him the ball. Calvin Ridley has completely disappeared even when he has played and he’s dealing with something off the field that none of us know about. Matt Ryan looks like he’s been on the decline like big Ben. And I don’t think Arthur Smith has done very much to get him open or work to utilize his strengths. Tonight not having Cordarrelle Patterson was huge because that offense couldn’t do anything without him out there.

That’s a pretty damning statement for a franchise.

Yup. I feel like Patterson is the only player smith manages to maximize the talent of. The fact pitts is only averaging 6.9 targets and Russell gage is averaging 5.6 targets is ridiculous. Atlanta seems to be regressing each week on offense. they’ve scored less than 14 points in 3 of 4 games.

To be honest i think sirianni has been more impressive than smith to this point. It took him a while to adjust to the personnel he had but he’s done it. Eagles seem to be improving week to week. Can’t say atlanta has shown to do that. they’ve gone the opposite way

AFan spent a long time in the area.  I have close family in the area and grew up in Texas.  I don’t think you understand the dynamic of central Texas.   They don’t want to be Houston or Dallas and would turn to the San Antonio team.  For the NFL, stadium and filling it is part of it but TV market is even bigger.  San Antonio/Austin is the sixth biggest TV market in the US.  And A San Antonio team could go a long way to capturing the Latin market.

And every good Texan knows the joke about Sam Houston changing it’s name to Sam Houston Institute of Technology.   Get the joke right.

I get the numbers you're giving and in one hand it makes sense. But once again why is it such a big market?  Austin is a city native Texans are fleeing because of the California invasion.  San Antonio is becoming a southern NYC melting pot.  It's also becoming LA like that nobody is going to want to drive a couple hours to SA, just to drive equal time in city because the infrastructure can't handle the expansion.  They'd have to drop the stadium way on the outskirts to the point where it's like the Niners...they're called San Fran but they're not.  Also if you want to talk TV market, you wanna piss off a real Texan...have the NFL mess with their cash cow that it the Turds by splitting TV coverage and alienating a large chunk of the their fanbase.

The poop joke though lol

They adopted that name because of Edgar Allen Poe.

@LeanMeanGM

Mac Jones was my favorite qb in the last draft.  Too early to take a victory lap, but you can see why his style is a fit for the nfl.

I haven’t seen quite enough of this years crop of qbs, just enough to know that I hate most of them.  But Carson Strong has my attention.  He’s someone who might be worth a late 1 and might really have a shot.

Getting a Carson from the Wentz pick…could be poetic.

Super Bowl 52 MVP???

And you call yourself an Eagles fan

BTW if Wentz played one or two more games before he got hurt he was clearly the MVP in that 2017 season.

So you had 2 MVP's in one season on that team.

And consequently he's holding up his IQ in that picture

I kind of feel Pitts falls into a weird category like Elliott did for the cowpokes. Great top tier talent, but kind of went too high to a team that didn't NEED that position.

Would you call Pitts the best non-QB player in the last draft?

I think Pitts will have a great career and be a top player for years to come, but the Falcons have so many needs and holes that drafting Pitts doesn't really make them that much better.
