I am surprised he accepted a deal while recovering from a concussion, I'd imagine you wouldn't want to be dealing with any brain fog when considering such a major deal.

You can't be serious. You know he has an agent that helps with these kind of things right? And it's likely they've been working on this for awhile.

Kempski had an interesting question in the mailbag: how does Sirianni compare to the other 2021 hires.

Dan Campbell, Lions

David Culley, Texans

Urban Meyer, Jaguars

Robert Saleh, Jets

Nick Sirianni, Eagles

Arthur Smith, Falcons

Brandon Staley, Chargers

Guy has had some flaws in year 1 sure but man I don't think I realized how rough that list is in retrospect.

Smith and Saleh from what I’ve seen aren’t very good.   The Jets have given up 175 points in the last 4 games, and are 1-3 in those 4. So much for Saleh’s defensive genius.
Zach Wilson starting game 1 was a bad decision, and it’s possible last years supposed great QB class was overrated.

Smith last night, lol, why even put Franks in that game? Plus, if you’re gonna run on almost every 1st down, how about using different plays and when it isn’t working because your O-Line is awful, maybe don’t run it.   Also, Mayfield has to have a b\u, use him, because he’s gonna get Ryan killed.

I'd take the bet that he will. There's going to be a lot of mid tier FA's like Engram, Ertz, Howard, Uzomah. Only guy that will come close IMO is Gesicki.

Hockenson is up there too

So while the extension seems high, to play devil's advocate here are some of the top FA TEs over the next 2 years:

Gronk, Ertz, Ebron, Everett, Cook, Williams, Alie-Cox, Tonyan, Howard, Hurst, Engram, Gesicki, Schultz, Doyle, Rudolph, Hockenson, Fant, Knox, Smith

The TE market value is going to be reset in the next year or so. Eagles are, for better or worse, trying to getting ahead of it.

Bolded are the only TE's that have a shot at getting near or more than Goedert. The rest are mid tiers or scrubs.

Say what? San Antonio has always been the northern most city in Mexico. As Tex-Mex's like to say, the border moved, they didn't.

I-35 is nothing like a LA Freeway (cue Guy Clark), it's always been an easy drive to San Antonio, unlike I-10 in Houston, which is an absolute nightmare after 40 years of constant construction (forget escape from LA, trying getting out of Houston during rush hour).

Old Austinites (which include many "newcomers" from the 1960s to 1980s) are fleeing, but out to the hill country, Wimberly, Buda, San Marcos, etc. The newcomers tend to move into North Austin, South Austin is still too funky for many of them, same with East Austin.

When's the last time you've spent significant time in San Antonio?  It's a completely different city from even 6 years ago, which before this summer (spent most of it there) was my last lengthy stay.  The drive to San Antonio is not bad, but i'm talking once you're there.  It's an absolute mess.

I think there was more people arguing whether they should re-sign him as he likely was going to get 14-15 mil

Maybe I am wrong but people said we could not resign him due to the cap. I get when people say we shouldn't, but I swear there were some arguing we wouldn't be able to.

Everybody is moving into texas, because it's better than the blue state they left, and then they will all vote for the bad progressive policies and make it like the sheethole state like they left.

Howie is always trying to get ahead of the market for any position. Injuries have messed that up a bunch

Goedert's value is more than just his receiving stats, he's a top in line blocker for a TE, most receiving TEs are H-backs or WRS or steroids, for which blocking is an afterthought, and few are capable of handling a DE (just look at film of Ertz). He's a big part of the run game as well.

Money in, money out.  Extending your core pieces also has the benefit of parting company faster from the guys who aren't earning what they're being paid.

Howie was behind the market on this one IMO. Not necessarily blaming him because it was a weird situation but if he wanted to get ahead of the market, he would have been signed before Henry (12.5 APY), Smith (12.5 APY), Andrews (14 APY)

Just finished watching film of DeMarvin Leal against Ole Miss.  Definitely a 1st round talent and I'd love to get either him or Jordan Davis for the DL in the 1st round.

Matt Corral film from the same game, OTOH?  Yuck.

Somehow in the SEC Championship game, we need Neal from Bama to switch to guard, or Davis switch to DE, just for 8-10 snaps so we can watch those two monsters go one on one.
Assuming of course Alabama wins out.

You’re an idiot if you think the framework of the deal was just discussed this week.

It all started in the blue tent

I'm late to the breakdown but Hurts had a good game when looking at this

Of course he has an agent but he is the final decider on if he goes with a deal or not.  Just seems odd to make a such a major life decision while still recovering from a concussion.

I agree, but I do think a few of those guys are going to get a lot closer than we think.  He'll probably remain top 5ish though.

By the time Sam Houston got to Indian Nation, before he got to Texas, he had been adjunct general, a congressman and governor of Tennessee. (Crockett wasn’t the only former Tennessee Congressman to fight for Texas independence.)  Houston had a scandal and resigned as governor of Tennessee, sent his wife home to,her family and headed to the Cherokee Nation, where by his own admission, he was drunk most of the time.

I find it a bit funny that Crockett is remembered for the Disney movies and the Alamo, despite his history as a statesman and Houston is remembered most as the general that ambushed Santa Anna’s split army during siesta to win independence, primarily by capturing Santa Anna.  (People forget about the other part of Santa Anna’s army and how much of a threat it was.). People tend to overlook all the time that Houston spent as an elected official.

Sam Houston was firmly against secession as well.  He was right in predicting both the defeat of the South and the economic hardship it created.

He said he thought it would‘ve been done months ago, even before Ertz left.

I believed him when he said he wanted to stay. Very happy he does!

Interesting note, that's 3/5 from the 2018 draft class extended.  Will be 4 if they extend Maddox. Turned into a solid draft despite limited resources.

Elite pure TE. Basically the #2 receiver. Had to get done.

we agree, now he needs to string 7 more good games together this year, before I even begin to look at him for next year and beyond
