SOMEONE HAS TO START

Of Mailata, Goedert, Maddox and Sweat, who isn’t a starting caliber player?

Goedert, Mailata, Sweat and Maddox could start for the vast majority of NFL teams.  So even by your standards, the 2018 draft was a "hit”.

Do you think that’s more of a "scheme” issue vs a "Josh Sweat” issue?

Hell, Goedert just got named the starter a few weeks ago....

Any other questions?

Nope. You answered just as incorrectly as I expected. Thank you for your time.

Still don't understand the love for Black on Black uni's by this FO. Makes no sense. Green on Green would look so much better. There has never been black in the uniform in the past, maybe the outline and that's it. Id rather see  new Grey uniforms over Black.

So.. Goedert, Sweat, Mailata, Maddox, Driscoll, Bradley, Watkins, Taylor, Sanders, Smith, Williams and Hurts were good picks?

Too bad Mr. Roseman sucks at drafting!

Two questions to ask yourself is who is responsible for this team's roster and why isn't this team a contender? I think the criticism of Howie that is fair is that first round picks have been bad or not lived up to expectations.   It's probably too early to write off Reagor but he's not looking like a good pick at this point.  I think the other question is valuation and, in particular, the under valuing of LB and Safety which has led to steep decline in defensive play.  I mean sure Goedert is a decent TE.  He was in a draft that was deep at that position.  It wasn't a position of need.  LB was at the time of the draft.  The Eagles had lost Kendricks in the offseason.  Hicks was coming off of a season ending injury and heading into a contract year.  Bradham was the only sure starter.  What if the team had taken Fred Warner instead of Goedert.  So would this team be better with Warner and Ertz since 2018? I think that's a likely yes.

BTW love the Goedert signing. Been calling for this before the season started. If they didnt wait this long he would have been cheaper. Morons. At least he wont be dressing up in Cowboys Blue next year. Cause if they didnt get this contract done, thats where he would have landed and we would be regretting it for many years.

Better today? Maybe. But Goedert is 26, so that matters.

I for one agree with the idea not to draft LB or RB early. These are positions that have less value when it comes to contracts. That we don’t draft safety early may be a mistake though.

Third round is a good spot for LB. Hicks was good, Taylor is good. Let’s keep that up with a guy like To’o To’o next draft..

Just finished watching the All-22. This time I concentrated on two players and paid no attention to the success or failure of the plays or to other players, only to down and distance in order to get some sense of what their responsibilities might be. The players are Driscoll and Taylor.

I've mentioned in the past that the three things I look for in an OL are knee bend, balance, and good feet. Driscoll has all those things. He also has excellent technique, hand placement, and recognition. His ceiling is someone like Evan Mathis, who was an excellent player for us after kicking around the league for a number of years. What Driscoll lacks is power. That's not news, I know. I do not think he will ever be able to become a road grader, it's just not in his frame.

Driscoll played well. He combined on a number of double teams with Kelce and a couple with Lane and he acquitted himself very well. His timing was on point and he released to the next level off the double team with good timing and recognition. He pulled effectively, hit the right man, and can handle himself in space. In run blocking when not part of a double team he is very quick and he walls his man off or turns him efficiently. On one play in particular, his man stoned him on an attempted drive block but Driscoll locked his arms in so the RB ran right by the two without being touched. Very effective. Despite the fact that he lacks power, he has an excellent anchor. He gave up a pressure on the INT; I think that was the only one. He handled stunts well with Kelce. He made one big mistake, looking outside when the MLB was blitzing the A gap and came clean but Hurts got the ball out so fast that the mistake cost nothing. That will get fixed in the film room. He took a couple of bad angles when filtering through to the second level and didn't give himself a chance to cut off the LB's pursuit.

Driscoll is absolutely a starting quality guard. He will never be an all-pro but he will be very good. I believe that an OL needs a strong guard and a quick guard. He is the latter. He is nowhere near as strong as Brooks or Dickerson but quicker than both. I am curious as to whether he is quicker than Seumalo; it'll be close. Seumalo is definitely more powerful. Driscoll's technique is much better than Seumalo's was when he came into the league. Should Kelce retire, I would be very happy with Isaac at center and Driscoll at LG, assuming Brooks is not here or not healthy. Just to be clear, Brooks is better.

As I said, I was concentrating on two players but another guy kept flashing for me - Jack Stoll. Excellent wham blocks, powerful, well-timed. Tough on the edge. Caught a ball or two - I wasn't counting. Very good run blocker at the point of attack and, as I said on the wham.

When Denver had the ball I focused on Davion Taylor. He had a good game. His play recognition was, for the most part, excellent. He got caught leaning a couple of times. He is so athletic. And fast. Played mostly weak side but lined up over the middle a number of times when Denver showed heavy to one side. On those plays Edwards went strongside. Taylor has some difficulty with stack-and shed. Got jolted by a big OT a couple of times. What impressed me about those plays was, though he got knocked back, he recovered instantly and got back in the play. Never got knocked off his feet. Pretty damn good when hit by a guy who has you by 100 pounds. On Slay's fumble return, he lined up on the LOS, submarined the TE, and got a hand on the ball. Had to go laterally about four yards to do it, which is impressive on a short-yardage play. There were a couple of plays where the receiver caught the ball behind him; I found it hard to tell if that was his fault, the DB's fault, or too deep a drop by the S. Or, of course, just a good route and throw. Those happen too. Certainly the yawning gaps in the zones that had us all in a tizzy have shrunk a lot. I think Gannon is making adjustments and Taylor is getting a feel.

If Taylor improves as much from this year to next as he has from last year to this he's going to be a stud. As I said, he is really fast and athletic and he has learned a lot.

We beat them last year in black, so that’s why. Really like that grey though!

2019 was meh, but Dillard wasn't a bad pick, it's obvious this year that he'll start somewhere at LT, it's not Howie's fault he made a better 7th rd pick!

Sanders was fine where he was picked, JJAW was the whiff, don't care about the last two, odds are against you at #138 and #167.

2020, Reagor was Pederson's pick, maybe Hurts as well, it was the classic "do we give the HC what he wants or fire him" draft. Hurts is fine value, people who think you can draft top backup QBs, much less top 20 QBs, after the 1st rd on a regular basis are smokin' something good. Hurts is outplaying the majority of QBs picked in the top 15 the last four years. Most of the top backups are failed starters, and other than Tyrod Taylor, what later round picks would you want? And who has a backup as good as Hurts?

Every other pick was > #100, and they have two starters, Taylor and Driscoll, and some solid backups, Bradley, Watkins, Wallace.

Should Howie have overruled Pederson? Sure, and then he should have fired him and started the rebuild. "Either go way, or go all the way in . .. "

If Howie isn't sure of his evaluation, why put him in the position where he makes the decision?

I love the green on green. Duce looks like a beast in that pic. One of my favorite jerseys i own is Duce puma from that era.

You think Sweat is a starter on other teams?  You know he would have been behind BG and Barnett right?  48th in Sacks....and I'm wrong..

You're pointing to an avg. slot corner as another example of why a draft was good....and you think he starts a lot of other teams?

You're welcome for my time.  You can go back to tweeting other peoples opinions now, since yours gets owned so often.

There are 64 starting edge rushers in the NFL. Do I think Sweat is comfortably inside that number? Yep.

Do I think an average starting slot corner is a fine outcome for a fourth round pick? Yep.

Do I think a top 10 (easily) TE is a good outcome for a second round pick? Yep.

Do I think a top 10 (let’s call it 15 for the sake of the argument) LT in the seventh round is a great outcome? Yep.

Obviously Goedert, Mailata and Sweat were paid on potential.....which I am fine with.  But it's not the time to tout the draft a success because they were paid on potential.....That's silly and homerific.

Where do you see that? PFF has him tied at 31st in sacks. Sacks also shouldn’t be the main focus when evaluating a DL.

Also didn’t Sweat beat out Barnett in TC?

You have to choose 1 from each list for our team next year

List 1 - Aidan Hutchinson, George Karlaftis, DeMarvin Leal

List 2 -  Andre Booth Jr.. Kaiir Elam, Ahmad Gardner

List 3 -  Tyler Linderbaum, Kenyon Green, Charles Cross

Who you taking?

List 1 -- Hutchinson.  Likely has the highest ceiling (and floor) of the 3.  Like Leal a lot too, though

List 2.  Gardner.  Elam looks too grabby, and both Gardner and Booth appear to be smarter players positionally.  Gardner's long arms are a big asset

List 3.  Linderbaum -- although personally I wouldn't touch OL in the 1st round with so many needs on defense.

Am I the only person on this blog that couldn't give a crap what color uniforms the eagles wear?

It shouldn’t surprise anyone if Gardner ends up being the best of the bunch.

Obviously.  But it's not like anyone on our D Line has been stellar at stopping the run either.

ESPN.  Not sure how PFF can be so off.....but then again....yes I can.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/player/_/view/defense/table/defensive/sort/sacks/dir/desc

Ah it’s because PFF has him credited with 4 sacks, ESPN has him at 3.5

Technically he’s ranked #52, Von Miller is ranked in mid 30’s with 4.5 sacks. So one sack is difference of like 20 spots on the list.

Khalil Mack done for the season.

Yeah, I guess your magical fantasy GM would’ve drafted the hell out of that fourth round.

Congrats, once again you prove that you are one of the most negative people on this board.

Must suck to be you.
