If Jalen Hurts keeps playing like this, Howie will sign him to a contract extension this offseason.

Gonna be hard to do that as he’s not eligible to sign an extension until after next year.

He's not eligible this off-season. Rookies contracts are eligible after their 3rd year IIRC.

Taylor seems to get hurt every week.

So you offer us this hyperbole, but get emotionally wounded when someone suggests that Hurts doesn't throw over the middle.

Right, my bad.  At any rate, I would not be shocked if Howie signed him to an extension as soon as he could.

He's not all that popular, but Howie's formula has been simple: pay guys who do well for your team.  Show people what happens when they play well.  I don't think Jalen is gonna be any exception there.

I don't expect perfection from Hurts... I expect that he's learning and not making the same mistakes.  We've seen this EXACT same running around in a circle within the pocket before.  It's not good.   He runs himself out of the pocket and into the pressure from the DE... he took his eyes off the rush, and likely only put his eyes back down field when he realized he likely couldn't beat both the DE and DT to the edge... This was not a good play by the QB by any measurement.

It's not a good play.  It could have been a worse play and he ultimately made a throw that could have been a big gain.  So while the time to get to the decision and execution of the throw were bad, the decision itself wasn't.  That's about as positive as I can get on it.

Well after he plays lights out this year and next year we obviously should extend him. But for now we can just enjoy him playing on a very cheap contract until the cap goes crazy in 2023.

2 interesting observations from the snap counts:

- Tarron Jackson doubled his snaps and narrowly led the non-starter D lineman.

- Despite the Taylor injury, Avery played only got 4 snaps

I think the smart move would be to roll over some of our draft capital into the future to hedge our bets.

Hurts has looked good recently, but I’m still not 100% sold on him. So if we have 3 first round picks, I think it would be prudent to turn one of them into a 2023 first and 2022 second if possible. That way we get the best of both worlds — an infusion of young talent this upcoming draft and the optionality to go get a blue chip QB prospect in the future if Hurts doesn’t develop as well as we hope.

This is by far and away the smartest bet. Maybe trade a 1st for a 2nd this year and a 1st next year if someone falls in love with a QB.

Would love this move. Hopefully someone falls in love with a mid-round QB. Both 2022 and 2023 look to be solid classes outside of QB so even if they stick with Hurts we're not shooting ourselves in the foot.

I like him, he seems like he has the athletic ability to be player but he can't seem to stay healthy.  He has played in only 6 games this season due to injuries.  Some players just can't seem to stay healthy in this league and he seems like he might be one of them.

The idea of that appeals to me but I don't think they should trade out of a top 10 pick.  I also think the 2nd pick makes some sense if it is in the top 15 and they can get back a pick in the 20's this year and a future first or 2nd.    I don't think collecting assets to hedge against the need to get a franchise QB in and of itself is a good idea.  They have to be able to add significant talent this offseason.

We're there any post game updates on Howard and Taylor? Two of the biggest contributors to the team's resurgence got hurt. Pretty big deal.

Don't forget Slay

Here's a look at the throw to JJAW. For those with eyes to see, please observe the effect Hurts has on the NO defense here.

JJAW runs a six yard curl. This is an RPO.

The MLB leans left on the run fake. JJAW is his man but he commits to the run. The corner takes the right guy - Goedert going to the flat. Note that both  the RDE and OLB are standing flat-footed, looking at Hurts.1812362037_2021-11-22(6).thumb.png.4afce000f703448c19195432c3b135a6.png

Hurts may be a terrible QB but his presence here has collapsed the NO defense. He has a simple flip to a completely uncovered JJAW, who goes for 23.

The QB question has got to be our priority. It's next to impossible to win a super bowl without a top 10 type of QB.

The good news is that this isn't an either/or situation. We can hedge our bets on Hurts while still adding a ton of talent to the roster. But I would prioritize our QB optionality above all else.

Eagles won a Super Bowl with someone who wasn't even close to a top 10 QB.  The team needs to focus above all else in adding as much top young talent that they can to our defense at all levels.

The kind of deal I’d do every year.

Hard to find takers though..

Wentz was arguably the best player in the NFL that year. He got us the #1 seed, HFA, and a title shot. Foles then played like a superstar when it mattered.

QB play won us that SB while our defense got shredded by Tom Brady.

Despite not being a top QB, for that playoff stretch Foles played like one.  Got hot at the right time ala Eli Manning. Very hard to rely on that happening again.

Foles has played great when he's in the right system for him, with heavy use of the RPO where he hands off or makes quick throws. As a conventional pocket QB, he sucks.

I suspect the same with Hurts, use his strengths and gradually improve his passing and he can pull a "Foles." Try to make him a conventional pocket QB and "fail." Hurts doesn't have to be a top 10 passer, he has to be a top 10 QB, which includes utilizing his running and improvisational skills. He needs to improve his pocket passing, but he's only started 15 games. But he just has to pass well enough to keep defenses honest - hit a few long balls when safeties cheat up, hit sideline passes when LBS cheat toward the tackle box and hit the throws down the seam when LBs bite on play action.

But Foles wasn't a Super Star.  He wasn't a top 10 QB in the league.  He was a journeyman backup QB that got hot at the right time.  Great teams win Super Bowls.  Great QBs help them win of course, but a great team is needed.  Eagles won because they had a great team and they had a QB that was able to get hot at the right time with that great team.  Eagles need to focus on building a great team.  Then we will see with Hurts if he can get hot at the right time or if not then you can commit resources when you feel you are ready to compete like the Rams did in getting Stafford.

Eagles have a lot of young talent on offense but it is long overdue for them to really increase the talent level of the young players they have on defense.  Best case scenario is that they use those 3 draft picks to either draft 3 defensive players or maybe trade for some elite defensive player that becomes available in a trade this offseason.

Just to throw some playoff talk out there.  I think the top 5. are untouchable.

#6 - Vikings   - SF. Detriot, Pittsburgh,. Chicago, LA, Green Bay, Chicago I see at least 5 wins, theyre basically a lock at 6 IMO.

#7 Saints have Bills(L) Cowboys(L)  Jets(W) Tampa(who knows how they play each other) Miami(W) Carolina(who knows) Falcons - We hold the time breaker

First Out - San Fran they have  Vikings,  Seattle, Cinncy, Atlanta, Tennessee, Houston, LA.

I think San Francisco is more of a worry for the wild card then the saints. The saints have lost 3 in a row. And continuously find themselves down double digits in the fourth Quarter. Siemian is regressing not improving. Plus they have a bunch of injuries.

the niners are getting healthier each week and at the right time. Aiyuk is coming alive. Kittle is healthy. Deebo is playing great. Wilson and Mitchell are running well. And Jimmy G is playing competently. Their schedule vs. Minnesota (winner has a leg up in the wild card), at seattle, at cincy, vs. atlanta, at titans, vs. Houston and at rams. I see them winning at least 4 of those 7 games. I don’t think it’s a given the titans, rams or cincy just beats them on the road. They could be 9-8 or better.

Are people ready to have the conversation that right now Jalen Hurts is the best "value" of any player in the NFL? He's making 1.5M for each of the next 3 years, including this one.
