I think Mailata was chippy with Davenport all game because he pushed Hurts as he went out of bounds.  Mailata approached after that play and wagged his finger at him.  It seemed like Mailata was set on teaching him a lesson the rest of the game which is nice.

I am not convinced that Sirianni went to an expanded run game solely to take pressure off of Hurts.   I think he did it to help the OL, especially the interior OL, gel. I also think, because it was working, he may have done it as much to help the defense.  Running takes snaps away from the defense.

Or that C/G wasn't a priority position worth taking in the second round

Who said that? I’m fine taking guard/center in round one if one is truly worthy. Round two shouldn’t even be an issue especially if the player has first round talent. I think most people didn’t absolutely love the pick cause of his 4 season ending injuries in college. His talent has never been a question imo. Whether the kid holds up and isn’t injury prone is the main concern. Which still is a concerned until he starts and finishes seasons consistently.

I think the injury argument was code speak for: "I wanted a DB.“

Giants game.  After last night I think we should be ready for them to be very physical, angry, and will get their best effort.  Gonna have to match that energy early and knock it out of them..  Not having Howard is a bummer.  He is playing well.

Naw there were plenty of us that loved creed Humphrey at that spot. I was one of them. He’s also killing it for the chiefs. Don’t get me wrong i wouldn’t have been against Asante Samuel jr. In that spot if they took him. He’s also played well. That was a popular guy with that pick.

Hurts grading out as an above average QB...

Thomas wasn't paying attention. It had nothing to do with what he said, but what he did. When he shoved Hurts out of bounds, Mailata decided to serve justice.    Best part of it was that he served that justice without taking a penalty.

Reminds me of the NFL Films movie "Crunch Course"... interviewing Deacon Jones he said, "if you don't know how to serve justice, you are going to get pushed around."   On the same video Monty Stickles (49ers TE from the 60's.) talked about 'getting even'... he said the key was to get even without getting caught.  "The secret is to hit first, but never hit back.   You've got time... next play, next season, whatever."

He had to do it because hurts can’t pass a fb

Here are Hurts' first six running plays. He definitely gets hit on several of them. The first two are QB sneaks.JH-1.thumb.png.aed4b42fa2bf858efc803dbfb24bbe50.png

JH-2.thumb.png.ba583a26a183f89e636bcd02af6c1236.png

The third, he runs out of bounds untouched. Cheap push out of bounds. This is the play that set Mailata off.JH-3.thumb.png.4dfd139656ba30c7b0a0bc174ece3938.png

The next three are all collision plays, although on the first I add a close-up that shows he went under the tacklers. Not so the next two.JH-4.thumb.png.b3fdf6d224cc714cdcfe63e59eeaefe0.png

JH-4a.thumb.png.b7091f48a1f612dcffffff3465247324.png

Definite collision on the next two, although on the second - a QB draw - he gets tackled around the legs. He does not get a direct hit as he did on the first.

Untouched on the next. The TD on a scramble.

Yup seems Lane has kind of thrown under the radar this year due to the missed games for mental health.

He's performing like an all pro. I was worried about his ankle holding up and how it would affect his play but he's been great.

As for Mailata he just keeps getting better.

I forget who.  But the gist was interior OL wasn't a premium position worth taking that high over say a DB. Samuel Jr was the person they wanted instead.

I’ve liked tannehill the past couple years. I thought was very underrated. But Ryan tannehill has not been playing well lately even before his game against the Texans. The titans won the previous 3 games but it was more limiting him and their defense played well. He has 9 turnovers in his last 6 games. Heck his last 4 games he’s got 6 tds and 7ints even without the Texans game he was at 5 tds to 4 turnovers. On the year has 13-12 td to int ratio. Granted it’s not all his fall as he’s been missing WR and Henry got hurt.

I would have liked to see him try to avoid the hot a little bit and see if he could get a few extra yards, abs maybe score.  For some reason he was running right at guys.

I don't think he ran straight at him.  I think Jenkins had an angle on him and was going to hit him if he tried to avoid him or if he put his shoulder into him.  I do think he likes to initiate contact.

I did like Samuel. I would’ve been ok with him. I was fine taking an offensive lineman in that position. They needed to find somebody to eventually replace kelce or if they were gonna move Seumalo over to center they needed a guard.

I don’t know whoever was questioning the talent of Landon Dickerson. I love the kid’s talent. I hate the fact that he had multiple season ending injuries. I think it was a huge risk to take them there but his performance on the field was never gonna be a question as much as him being on the field. it’s why I wouldve started him on PUP and let him get to the 10 month mark in rehab than bringing him back after 8.5 months.

I’m guessing if it wasn’t a Thursday game might have already happened. It would be the ultimate fitting ending for him if he lost to the lions

DIckerson was a gamble, but you don't get a top 20 talent in the 2nd round unless there are some issues.

"you cannot win if you do not play"

Sometimes the gamble plays off, look at Metcalf, sometimes it doesn't, Sidney Jones (who's still playing).

Nagy still thinks his biggest problem was the kicker

yup.   I assumed that Humphrey was the pick, especially when OL was announced.

Yes, sometimes it does.   And sometimes the risk is unnecessary or unwise given the injury issues at a particular position.   The Eagles' biggest issue last season was issues of health along the OL.  Grabbing an OL with an injury history as long as Dickerson's at #37 was not a 'necessary' risk.  Sure, it worked out.  But that still doesn't make it a smart move.  That's like saying that investing in lottery tickets is a good retirement plan, because it worked for one guy.   It's bad process, especially when you consider that Humphrey was sitting there on the board at the same time and was good value at that same spot.

So far. We aren’t going to know with Dickerson until we get to 4-5 years down the road and he stays on the field consistently and is healthy. Because he could get week 13 this year, he has a season ending injury and that’s the exact thing that kept happening to him at Alabama. His performance on the field was never in question when he was drafted. Without the injuries he’s likely a top 20 pick. It was always going to come down to can he consistently stay on the field and avoided major injuries.
