We were up 32-6 on the road in the 4th quarter.

Are we a good team?

Remains to be seen.  I was pleasantly surprised yesterday and they played well.  The Falcons are not good and all pre-season we heard Sirianni say the reason they weren't playing the starters were so they didn't give away any surprises for the 1st game.  Well, that appears to have worked.

Now, the 49ers know they have to shut down the short passing game.  They have a very good defense.  Can the Eagles adjust? Do they have a deep passing game to incorporate?  Can they stretch the field with their TE?

The Falcons offense is also bad.  A good team most likely will expose the Eagles LB.  I think Singleton and Wilson are severely overrated here.  They are going to pile up tackles but the impact plays will be few and far between.

Eagles will probably steal some wins early in the year and then as teams adjust we'll see them start to come out on the losing side.

Good catch- 😆

One thing that concerned me was how many blocks Ertz seemed to miss yesterday.  See video above.  There seemed like there was a bunch similar to this throughout the game.

Said it on the Mailata thread, he played unbelievable....think about it.  He has been playing football for like 3 years now, and that extension is going to end up being a bargain.  He eviscerated that poor CB on that kick out block.  When you watch them line up, he makes all the other offensive linemen look tiny.  Also remember, Jason Peters didn't start out as an offensive lineman, he was actually a Tight End.  My point, just because Mailata didn't start out as an Offensive Lineman, well....that doesn't mean he won't be one of the best.  Also on the note regarding JP, he should not be playing football any more.  He looked pathetic in the Chicago game.....which is sad.

Let’s not send Jordan to Canton just yet.  The Falcons DEs may be the worst we see all year.  Let’s see how he does next week against the 49ers or how he does against WTF’s DL.  He looked good most of the time yesterday but hardly unbelievable.

Meh. That's a formula for moving the ball in between 20's. As long as they're football smart and know where they need to be they can junk things up on a compressed field and lean on the DL and secondary. It's a classic Patriots defense. Yeah, you'll give up yards over the middle of the field, but when you get close to the goal line your options become extremely limited.

We need Wentz to stay in the starting lineup though.  I’d hate to see him get benched when their season falls out of reach so that he doesn’t hit his threshold.

Starting 2-3 in that division keeps them in it.  They won't fall out of it before week 13.  It's really about health.

And thing is... Are they really going to bench Wentz? I mean unless he's clearly the single biggest reason why they struggle. I just don't see it.

Still not ideal though. Fans paid big bucks to get showered in mystery liquid.

Those D-bag fans probably enjoyed it.

The Niners dont have a WR as good as Ridley, not even close

Deebo Samuel ain’t no slouch, and they do have all pro TE George Kittle.

hope Fisher returns sooner rather than later cause julie’n Davenport was Matt pryor level bad yesterday at LT for them. He gave up 8 pressures alone. Their right side of the line was also not good in the second half. Smith and glowinski gave up a combined 7. Nelson apparently gave up 0 but there was a play where the defender got a sack lined up between he and Kelly. I’m guessing they gave it to Kelly who finished with 2.

No, they won't. Not unless he's playing extremely poorly and it's do or die time later in the year and they're fighting for a playoff spot.

I wasn't upset that they just a draft pick on him. I mean it was what a seventh round pick? Those picks are fliers anyway. But I did not think he was actually going to develop in to a starter. I mean hell I think a good result would have been just a decent back up.

Well not just a seventh. The Mailata pick was with a seventh rounder from the Pats in 2018.  To make that trade, the Eagles traded their own 2018 7th round choice plus their own 2019 seventh round choice.   So Mailata while picked in the seventh round, actually cost two seventh round picks.

They don’t need too have a WR as good as Ridley as they have more overall weapons than atlanta and a much better offensive line. They have George kittle might be the second best tight end in the league behind Kelce. Also deebo Samuel just had 189 yards and he was hurt the majority of last year. I didn’t mention aiyuk who was dealing with a hammy yesterday. They have a superior offensive line to atlanta and their no. 2 wr isn’t Russell gage. Add on Kyle shanahan isn’t a rookie head coach in his first game.

I picked the Colts to win that division before yesterday, but I do think the COVID stuff might derail them this season.

Watching the game live, they reported that masks were "suggested" for patrons -- I didn't see a single fan wearing a mask whenever the cameras panned the crowd.  The roster itself has the lowest rate of vaccination of any team.  Might be just a matter of time before they have multiple players on the COVID list each week.

Their OL looked bad yesterday; their defense was shredded in the first half by Wilson.  IND went on a 14-play drive and kicked a FG, then SEA scored a TD in 2 minutes when they took the ball.  It was 4 easy TDs for SEA against the Colts' defense.

Exactly. And if they get to that point I've got to think he's going to have played in the majority of games anyway? So even if they pulled him with say 2/3 games to go we may still be OK.

Not sure how you do change their behaviour though? Their illness is essentially greed and a very unhealthy relationship with food. I guess counselling may help them?

It's not greed. I think understanding behavior through the context of moral defects doesn't get at the heart of the problem.  I think it's about habits, genetics and potential underlying mental health issues.

The passes to Watkins in the flat will be seen again and I am curious to see what routes are run on the inside during those plays.  Maybe someone can get the All-22's up for that.  Because when defenses start to watch film on those perimeter RPO passes, we need to see what the other options would have brought.

Of course we don't know for sure but I think Sirianni has a lot more to this offense than what we saw yesterday. Yesterday they played things safe. They took what Atlanta gave them and that was more than enough. I suspect we will see something a lot different next weekend.

Davenport was horrible. He was on a Matt pryor level yesterday. He gave up 8 QB pressures alone. They need fisher out there cause even him on the decline coming off injury isn’t nearly as bad as Davenport. I was more surprised that glowinski and smith were as bad as they were. They combined for 7 QB pressures. That wasn’t all Carson. On their two point conversion smith and glowinski blocked no one and they had 3 pass rushers in the backfield as soon as the snap got to Carson. I thought the first half besides Davenport the oline was doing well. Felt like second half they had a bunch of problems with communication. I think Kelly just looked tired midway through the third. Which isn’t surprising as he and Nelson have barely practiced over the preseason and training camp.

I'm not scared of the 49ers at all, but I do think they're a great early season test for both sides of the ball. How will Mailata look against Nick Bosa? How will Hurts look when a team doesn't let him break outside the pocket as easily? Will the other young guys who flashed against ATL (Devonta, Reagor, Sweat, Gainwell, even Quez) continue to flash against better competition? Is a Hargrave breakout for real? How will Gannon's bend don't break approach in the run game handle probably the best run scheme in the NFL?

Kittle is going to feast
