I'd say that suggesting Hurts is progressing is more click bait worthy.

What if the headline is Hurts Progressing Towards His Last Game As an Eagle

I'd say pressures are more valuable than sacks, it's like defense in basketball, just getting a hand up within four feet of a 3 point shooter lowers their % by 10 points or so, in the same way, getting pressure on a QB, moving him off his spot (and his eyes off his receivers for a second), will greatly reduce his effectiveness.

Yes yes... I've heard it before.   And how many of these pressures led to turnovers, and incompletions?   Remember, this team has very few turnovers and are allowing 80%+ to any QB that's even remotely close to worth his salt.   But, yes... these pressures from Barnett have been very good at reducing opponent QB's effectiveness.

Beating a block in 2.5 seconds won't have much impact if passes are being thrown in 2.0 seconds.

Nope.

A pressure can do those things, but the offense can, and often does still make a play. Move the ball. Maybe a 1st down. Maybe an explosive play. Maybe a TD. Pressure doesnt necessarily prevent any of those things. A sack, guaranteed, every time results in a change of downs, AND the offense losing yards.

Theres no question that a sack is more valuable than a pressure. Come on...

But sacks are rare events, there are some pass rushers who are sack or nothing, that is, they totally sell out on their pass rush.

Whereas many good pass rushers (Graham is a good example) use a controlled rush, getting consistent pressure even if they're not racking up big sack numbers, and just as important, they're not taking themselves out of containment responsibilities or getting totally fooled on screens.

So it's not enough to get sacks to be a top pass rusher, I want to see pressures and hits as well, and how often you lose contain.

You are now creating the question of whether player A who can generate say, 10 sacks a season with few pressures is more or less valuable than a player who can generate say 50 pressures in a season with only 5 sacks.

Thats different than saying "pressures are more valuable than sacks". Which you said.

With this team... sacks seem to be getting rarer all the time.   And our expectations for defensive players that can actually... ***gasp*** ... make a play is dropping ever quicker.   No more do we expect that our defenders can actually make a play, make a stop... now we are to be contented with getting close.  Seems that we are looking for more and more Mamulas and fewer and fewer game changers.   Although, given Howie's inability to draft a playmaker on the side of the defense, of course we have to find a way to be contented with almost.

And please please please... never again compare Derek Barnett to Brandon Graham, because as we've seen countless times, this wonderful Derek Barnett does run himself out of position, allows teams to take advantage of his over commitment to crashing down.  Barnett has been a chief culprit at losing contain during his years here.

Sweat should be able to get home more. Avery has shown in the past that if nothing else, he can rush the passer. Kerrigan really shouldnt have dropped off a cliff to the point where he has 1 tackle and 0 other stats this entire season. Barnett even regressed from last year where he finally had become a passable starter.

I wonder how much of this is the way the new DL coach and Gannon are asking them to play, rather than a lack of talent.  Yeah, we do lack talent as well, but I think the guys we do have are capable of more than this.

Dan Quinn head coaching duties tonight; no OL coaches due to COVID

To say that a pressure is more valuable than a sack is to believe that a sack is worse (for the defense) than the average outcome of a pressure.

The interception rate on every play with a recorded pressure is not nearly high enough for that to hold true.

Odds of Taysom Hill passing for 250+ yards tonight?

Agreed, pressure stats usually seem to be misleading. Of all the supposed Derek Barnett pressures, how many have actually affected a throw this season?

Hey just 1 more hour till the weekly drool fest over Micah Parsons, Ceedee Lamb and whoever else you wanna name from those stooges down in Texas.

It just occurred to me that it's Buck and Aikman calling a Cowboys game. So yeah, they will be rooting for their favorite team all night. Better just mute the broadcast now.

Nice throw, Dak.

Is Taysom Hill worse than Jalen Hurts?

Upon replay... it looked better.

Wow what a freaking move by lamb

I don’t understand the "no thanks Gallup” club on here. Dude is a baller.

Great catch by Gallup.

Wouldn't mind throwing money at him this offseason to be the #2 to Smith.
