None of them have been as good as Gallup is.

Uh, Demarco Murray was certainly better at the time.

Well there's a good chance this year we address our defense. Nakobe Dean may make you not give an ish about Parsons. This was always going to be a rebuilding year for us, and I'm just glad we don't have to sink any more first round resources into WR. The Cowboys have certainly improved by getting Parsons, but ultimately, would you be shocked when they get bounced in the first round of the playoffs again?

I still can't see Howie taking a LB in round 1.

Most likely he'll take a couple DL and an offensive player if he keeps all 3 picks.

Or he'll do something really stupid and trade all 3 for a QB👎

This draft seems to be the perfect intersection of positional need/availability for us. Seems first round is heavy with defensive prospects, so if there was ever a time to take an LB in the first, this is it. If they don't......I can't imagine them ever doing so again, under Lowie anyway.

I don't know man....WR is hardly solved.  Nakobe Dean is GREAT but he's going to be 5'11 215-220.  Micah Parsons is 6-3 245.  I've had enough of the tweeners.  Just to counterpoint....can you imagine Dean AND Parsons.

Again, not taking away from Smith.  I just want to build a dominant defense.  You don't do that with UDFA, 3rd round projects and cast off UFA that get cut mid-season.  You do that by drafting sure things and flat out studs.

The Eagles signed DeMarco Murray after he had 1900 yards and 13 TDs.  Sure it's still to pay top dollar for a running back but he was still the top RB in the league.

Point taken, but we also signed him after Dallas gave him the ball 392 times.  I think Gallup is on another level: great hands, good route runner, and on a team loaded with receivers he still manages to stand out.  Excellent player.  Eagles need Excellent players.

WR will be fine with a QB who can actually throw the football. Between Smith/Watkins/Goedert, you have three viable targets. Sure, we need one more WR, but it's no longer a pressing need in the first.

And today's NFL, yes you need a good defense, but what has Parsons really done for the Boys? Yeah, they're gonna run away with the East, but they've had a decently easy schedule. And their defense, even being ranked 4th in DVOA, has given up big point games (over 30 points) to the Bucs, almost Panthers (28), almost Patriots (29), Broncos, and Raiders. In fact, Dallas is allowing 22.3 ppg. You know what we're at? 22.8.

Offense is what makes the league run now, and the investments should be focused there. Which we did very much last year. Now, we get to focus on improving our defense, coupled with hopefully some improvement in QB (just say no to Hurts next year), you'll see us competing with Dallas for the division title.

The whole RB situation that off-season was just stupid.  Trading McCoy because they didn't want to pay a RB top dollar and then going and signing both Murray and Mathews made absolutely no sense.

Someone pointed it out earlier that if Gallup comes here, he's automatically the 3rd option behind Smith and Goedert.  Right now, our 3rd target, Watkins has 28 catches.  Do you want to spend the $13 or so million on a player who might finish the year with 50 catches?  It just doesn't make sense when trying to build the team....former Cowboy or not.  IF they had a QB who saw the field then maybe a different story but right now no thank you.

Not sure he would be the 3rd option.  Gallup could make Smith the #2 option.  The QB situation is the real issue, all the other stuff gets figured out on the field.  We'll see what the QB situation is next year.   But we'll disagree on Gallup.  He's a really good receiver and I'd rather sign him than draft another and there is no doubt the Eagles, amongst other needs, need another WR that can get open and catch the ball.

Even with a top Tier QB I think Parsons will end up being better/ more powerful force and I really like Smith.

Parsons is good.  We'll see if it continues.  It's a tough position to maintain his current production.  His own teammate Lawrence is a prime example.

If you've never gone to a game... yes.   If you've never gone to a game at that stadium... probably.

I wonder if the Saints will revert to being one of the worst franchises in the league again. Brees really elevated them, but they look awful. I would love nothing more, hate them, and hate Payton.

We should not have been in a position that it was a choice.  WR should have already been solved, but, the nerdy accountant sucks on draft day and we had to continue throwing resources at WR

Cowboys wouldn't have made the trade if the Eagles were going for Parsons.

Oh, I think he's very good, no question or disagreement there.  The Eagles have literally just had no luck with ex-Cowboys so for that reason alone, I don't want him.  Add in the QB play and his role here compared to his cost and Gallup is a player I'm staying away from.

Really good WR.  Remember Alvin Harper though?

Listened to the new BWF podcast and Zach brought up something I strongly suspected and was afraid of, the analytical dept does get involved with game planning leading up to the game. Makes sense on why we look so disjointed all the time.

Assuming the Eagles would use him correctly, which is a big if. It's also hard to say how good Smith can be at this point without a real QB. You may be right...if Smith was in NY putting up numbers and Parsons was more pedestrian here we'd probably be thinking the same thing.

I'm not taking away what Smith has done for the Eagles.  Smith IS the best WR they've had in some time.

I LOVE good defensive football.

I started watching Eagles football with Seth Joyner, Byron Evans, Wes Hopkins, Andre Waters, Eric Allen, Reggie White, Clyde Simmons and Jerome Brown wreaking havoc and causing FEAR.

William Thomas and Andy Harmon were severely underrated Eagles.

Then we had Brian Dawkins, Trent Cole, Hugh Douglas, Jeremiah Trotter, Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, Al Harris, Michael Lewis, Carlos Emmons, Corey Simon (pre-fat), Hollis Thomas and those great 2000s Jim Johnson defenses.

Look at what we have now.....past their prime BG, Fletcher Cox and Rodney McLeod.  Darius Slay is playing fantastic but that's going to waste with this team.

I want a defense that strikes fear in the opposing team.  I hated the Jim Schwartz style of football where you play soft between the 20s and then tighten up.  I want attacking, fast, game changing football players.

We have NONE.

That style of defense in the NFL is long gone.

Love the Eagles defense in those past years.  The current one is below that level of attacking scheme.  Too many aging and declining vets and not enough ascending ones.  Hope the HC does not fall into the old habit of keeping the vets too long and neglecting stocking the pipeline.  They need to address the defense, particularly the DL, in the upcoming draft.

From piecing together what Pagnetti has said, it could be as simple as team X struggles with "X type of runs” or on third and 8 or more the team is in X defense 67 percent of the time.

Its just offering more information, particularly situationally, not a directive on how to build a game plan.

This isn’t unique to the Eagles either.

Well, we can go back and forth on that type of stuff.  But I won't die on the sword for Gallup. But he will likely go to another team and we could have several years of posts saying we should have at least made a run at him.  More important to me is QB and defense.  So I'm like many on here who hope we take advantage of the seemingly excellent defensive draft and improve our D at all 3 levels.

They don’t value the position … at all.

I have no problem with them game planning. I mean they're not advising based on some hypothetical offense but what the Eagles do as an offense and what the success rate of the play is given the opposing team's defense.  My view is they look disjointed when they try to use passing concepts that are not consistent with Hurt's ability.  I think they didn't look that bad on Sunday from a scheme standpoint but they just did not execute.

I'm not sure if not paying Trotter cost them a Super Bowl but I do think they should have paid him.  Arguably the failure to re-sign Hicks is just as inexcusable as Trotter.  I do think the question at LB isn't so much MLB or WLB but SAM.  Gannon's defense needs an athletic SAM that can both pass rush and cover like Anthony Barr.  Arguably the only player that's a first round pick that fits the profile is Kayvon Thibodeux.
