The holes were smaller and we had a lot more aggressive run fits by the Jets. Way too many defenders in the backfield today. There was no spy and the backside end didn’t have to honor Minshew.

I think Sanders was at something like 3.9 yards per carry close to the end of the third quarter. He popped a big one in the fourth and finished at 5.0.

Considering the Jets were 27th in rush defense, I wasn’t impressed.

before that quarter though, he was in mid 4s. It seemed to take at least a quarter for the Jets to decide to stop honoring Minshew's legs as if he was Hurts.

That's the story of Sanders career though.  I think that speaks more of his running style than it does the Eagles running game.  Take away his long runs and he has a very pedestrian average.

Would love to see Howard with 24 carries.

There was a play at the end of the game where Gainwell went off the right side.  The OL had about a 5 yard push and all he had to do was continue going out to the right but for some reason ran up the back of Lane Johnson.

This is such BS, and not what happened today at all.  Nor has it in any week since this BS story came to life.

Gainwell is not a very good runner yet. And he is very weak. He needs a year or 2 to get stronger and learn to fall forward, or better yet hopefully run out of some tackles.

They’re gonna go back to Hurts after the bye and Washington is going to destroy him lol

185 yards rushing is impressive.   The Jets were allowing 128 yards per game on the ground.  And the Eagles beat that by 50%.  The Eagles averaged 157 yards per game on the ground coming in to this game, so I don't know what to tell you.  The Eagles didn't rack up 200+ yards today, primarily because the QB only had 11 yards, whereas Hurts was averaging 58.   That's a 47 yard difference.  Add that difference and the total jumps to 232.

Here are the rushing stats for the games from Detroit until today.   Hard to say that the running game was NOT effective.  I didn't say it was as effective... but it was pretty darn effective today.

I think the run game is missing more of Howard than Hurts. Eagles really need that downhill running game to get going again.

Sorry you win throwing the ball. And we did far better at that today.

I thought Sanders ran well. I’ve been critical of him missing holes or hesitation, but that wasn’t an issue today. He routinely got more than what was blocked IMO.

I'm only responding to the comment that he was averaging 3.9 ypc before a long run put him over 5 for the game.   How is it BS though?  Not this year, but in the past, his huge runs significantly increase his YPC.

Today was the most complete he's looked as a running back.

I look forward to him with an offseason of work in the gym

but he has got to atop double catching the ball

You can’t take Sanders long runs away and count those stats. That’s his game. Yes, he will lose yards here and there but he will also hit the big ones that none of the other RBs seem capable of doing.

LOL

Good 1st and half of 2nd. End of the 1st half got tight finding space. And things really went down hill in the 3rd and half of 4th quarter. Then they started getting some chunks again.

During those times where the run game struggled, Minshew was also holding the ball long, and then settling for passes in the flats which were going nowhere. For a huge portion of the game, the offense had nothing going on.

Managed to hold the ball and score on their first 7 possessions of the game.  Not a bad output.  Granted, bad opponent.   But, then again, the Eagles aren't a "good" team either, they are just a step above the likes of the Jets and Giants, but as evidenced last week, are still plenty susceptible.

I love what Urban Meyer is doing with the Jags. I think he should be frontrunner for coach of the year. All the haters look really stupid right now.

I would disagree there. It looks nice at the end of the game, but we weren’t doing that well on the ground for about three quarters. Sanders himself said it was harder without Hurts.

without howard IMO

if you watch him rather than let the comments in here cloud your judgement, hes been good running it, consistently breaking off chunks of yardage. Hes not a 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 20 guy like people say.

God i hope they can convince Kelce to play another year

What does our season average for rushing have to do with anything? It’s not like we tried to run the ball early in the year.

I thought our OL struggled in the ground game for large portions of today’s game, and actually benefited from Sanders maximizing yardage, and it’s usually the opposite.

Telling me our yardage total from the box score means nothing to me.

You'll be singing a different tune come April when their pick is much lower or they decide to commit to Hurts, who stinks because "he led the Eagles to the playoffs"

Worse draft pick. Makes Howie look good, so any doubt in Lurie's mind that may have crept in would be erased. Could fool them into thinking Hurts or Sirianni are good. Could deter them from trading for Watson or Wilson. They are going to get stomped in the WC round by any team they play.

"Playoff experience" is overrated. It's the same damn game, people always use that line and it's basically a cliche at this point with no logic? It's not like a Poker player is switching it up to blackjack.

What does playing one more game with the same rules that just so happens to mean more be so valuable than if they didn't play it. Is Jalen Reagor going to learn how to catch because of this extra game? Is Hurts going to learn how to throw an accurate ball? Talent wins, and it would objectively impact the Eagles' ability to add better talent.

Not much of a fan if you’re rooting for them to lose all season. Not interested in winning the pre-draft.

I think it will ultimately come down to how much he believes in what Siri is doing and if he is having fun.  Playing with the OL as it is, is a lot easier than a rotating cast of randoms.

Sorry.  I watched the game and watched them hold the ball and hold the ball and hold the ball... by running it.  They weren't getting huge hits, but they were absolutely effective.    We're going to have to agree to disagree I guess.   Seems we have very different definitions of what 'effective' running means.

I am fine to draft an OL in rd 1 if one of the best guards is there. Feed the beasts.

but god do we need a safety like Hamilton

I'm not worried about meaningless superficial optics of fandom, I'm concerned about what's best for the Eagles and their future and their prospects of building a championship roster.

Rooting is irrespective of what's best for them. You can even root for them to make the playoffs, but also acknowledge it's probably worse for their future if they do so. If the Eagles had missed the playoffs in 2019, Lamb would be an Eagle right now.
